L.A. Sheriff To Quadruple Gun-Carry Permits

"I know another question some of you are going to ask about is the [gun-carry permit] policy," he said during a live stream. "We're increasing the approval rate on these and it's probably going to go up about 400 percent, roughly. So, if you think you have good cause please submit it, go through the process, and we've actually increased some of our staffing to accommodate that."

The number only sounds striking on paper. A 2017 audit by the California State Auditor found the county had only issued 197 permits and there were only 9 active permits belonging to applicants outside the law enforcement community, despite the county having a population of more than 10 million. Philadelphia County in Pennsylvania, which has a population of about 1.5 million and a "shall issue" gun-carry law, issued 9,239 permits in 2019.

This entire permitting thing is a disaster. It is immoral and depraved to have to beg the nefarious and venal government for a "permit" in order to exercise your right to bear arms.

Brandon Combs, president of the California-based Firearms Policy Coalition, said he was not optimistic about the move, given the county's history.

"It's offensive that this corrupt, anti-gun rights sheriff thinks that's adequate or a substantive improvement," he told the Free Beacon. "Los Angeles County should have tens to hundreds of thousands of licensees based on its population - 400 percent of nearly nothing is still nearly nothing."

I cant imagine not having the ability to defend myself, family, and business from armed attack. I would feel sorry for those in that dry county if they hadn't been responsible for voting these liberals into power.

CA law doesn’t prohibit residents from keeping firearms in their homes or businesses.

OP is specifically addressing concealed carry permits for private citizens.

Only 9 CCW permits in a county with millions of citizens is deplorable. No doubt there are a whole he’ll of a lot mire bad guys than that in LA.

some district courts have ruled that MAY ISSUE permits are arbitrary and capricious. The supreme court needs to do that

But how many lives has that saved ?

People who are alive but wouldn't be if everyone walked around dripping with guns.

We have a Second Amendment and should have no security problems in our free States. Don't grab guns, grab gun lovers and regulate them well!

How many lives lost because citizens have been refused their right of self protection?

How many lives were lost or people injured because they were unable to defend themselves from criminals?

I'd be willing to bet it was precious few...certainly a lot less than the number lost because everyone could carry a gun.

And our illustrious mayor Garcetti is reducing the police budget by 150 million.

So, no police. No guns. Guess who wins?

When I was a law student, the famous Vincent Bugliosi was a guest. He gained death penalty convictions for the Manson nutcases (overturned later on by the supreme court when it struck down all DP sentences). He noted that California had a waiting period of I think 15 days even back then and he claimed that Joseph LaBianca attempted to buy a handgun later in the day that Sharon Tate was killed. He couldn't take delivery and he and his wife were then killed shortly thereafter.

Because guns have a history of being used to kill people.

I bet if you bother to do the research, you will find that legal gun carriers kill far less innocents than prevent violence against themselves or others

If you don't have the right to defend yourself then you do not have the right to life.

Bum regularly posts incidents where citizens do exactly that...several a week and I'm sure there are way more where the citizen just drew with intent to fire and drove off the attacker.

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

Guess I shouldn’t be surprised the stupidity goes that far back. Shameful.
