Defending Tyranny

So, then, no tear gas.

Got it!

"Hey, they didn't use Chemical X to spray down my fellow citizens. They used Chemical Y."

Got it.

If this doesn't smack of the tyranny the 2nd amendment people have been yammering about for at least 30 years...

Combined, at least 5,800 troops, agents, and officers have taken to the streets of the District.

Among them are personnel from the national guard, US Secret Service, US Park Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, US Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Protective Service and the Transportation Security Administration.

I have to ask. What does?

What does that even mean? If I commit a crime, I can only get arrested if I "consent?"

By consent of the citizenry

It doesn't surprise me that you're unaware of the concept:

"The Peelian principles summarise the ideas that Sir Robert Peel developed to define an ethical police force. The approach expressed in these principles is commonly known as policing by consent..."

Peelian principles - Wikipedia

So why are there still protests?

Because the bond of trust between the public and the police has been stretched to breaking point - not helped by a particularly divisive president.

WOW! That is a revealingly deceptive cut and paste from the article.

Your intention to deceive is showing.

Doing a little research, it appears that pepper balls are very directed devices unlike tear gas. The officers can aim at and effectively incapacitate the specific terrorists and leave the peaceable protesters unharmed.

You said that Pepper balls is a form of tear gas. As accurate as saying that a scalpel is a form of a lawn mower.

From your link with additional context that you deceptively cut out. The misleading fragment you posted is color highlighted:

Statement from United States Park Police acting Chief Gregory T. Monahan about the actions taken over the weekend to protect life and property - United States Park Police (U.S. National Park Service)

<snip>
The statement below was originally released on June 2, 2020.
WASHINGTON - The United States Park Police (USPP) is committed to the peaceful expression of First Amendment rights.

However, this past weekend’s demonstrations at Lafayette Park and across the National Mall included activities that were not part of a peaceful protest,

which resulted in injuries to USPP officers in the line of duty, the destruction of public property and the defacing of memorials and monuments.

During four days of demonstrations, 51 members of the USPP were injured; of those, 11 were transported to the hospital and released and three were admitted.
<snip>

On Monday, June 1, the USPP worked with the United States Secret Service to have temporary fencing installed inside Lafayette Park.

At approximately 6:33 pm, violent protestors on H Street NW began throwing projectiles including bricks, frozen water bottles and caustic liquids.
<snip>

As many of the protestors became more combative, continued to throw projectiles, and attempted to grab officers’ weapons, officers then employed the use of smoke canisters and pepper balls.

USPP officers and other assisting law enforcement partners did not use tear gas or OC Skat Shells to close the area at Lafayette Park. Subsequently, the fence was installed.

There is no footage of that happening and frankly, I am not sure there is reason to believe this guy since he is associated with the Trump administration (which is an immediate credibility killer).

I edited out, because that stuff does not matter until it can be independently verified. Ideally by independent and international human rights experts, but I doubt that will realistically happen.

Cultists always believe the state...unless there is a black guy heading it.

On that note, let's see how many of our 2nd amendment folks speak out against the cops beating peaceful protesters with batons. Crickets would be my guess on that response.

You choose to believe crooks and known liars. We choose to believe our eyes.

Funny though is watching the supposed anti-tyranny people suck up to the state.

Because this is how I see people behaving, so I am just telling it like I see it.

It seems appropriate to ask you to link to the source that shows that the overwhelming majority of gun owners in the US oppose the rights protected under the First Amendment.

Whatcha got?

This is why I cited personal observation.

Background in what--Internetology?

When military leaders have to keep your civilian President in check, people may want to begin believing Tyranny has entered the building.

Not that I expect any of the gun zealots to appose a strongman president. Hell, most of them already oppose democracy anyway.

What paranoid delusion is driving your thinking in this post?

This thread. So far the only people supporting the 1st are those here who oppose the unrestricted interpretation of the 2nd.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I know they support the 1st for white people, especially armed white people out there threatening Democrats.

"Hey, they didn't use Chemical X to spray down my fellow citizens. They used Chemical Y."

Got it.

It seems like people might do even a bit of research before exposing their stupidity, but it also seems that those gripped by stupidity don't do so.

Simply astonishing.

I get it. It's OK for Big Government to gas its citizens. The supposed anti-tyranny people have made that clear.

Next we'll see water cannons on the streets

China will criticize the USA's treatment of democracy protesters

How the wheel turns.

China is probably happy about this as it gives them legitimacy for their actions on Hong Kong.

The people who supposedly need guns to prevent tyranny support the strongman president. How ironic is that?

Wouldn't it be ironic if that barrier was made out of cement and covered in graffiti on the public side...and when rump is voted out, the "Washington Wall" is torn down by democracy protesters ?
