So, then, no tear gas.
Got it!
"Hey, they didn't use Chemical X to spray down my fellow citizens. They used Chemical Y."
Got it.
So, then, no tear gas.
Got it!
Combined, at least 5,800 troops, agents, and officers have taken to the streets of the District.
Among them are personnel from the national guard, US Secret Service, US Park Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, US Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Protective Service and the Transportation Security Administration.
What does that even mean? If I commit a crime, I can only get arrested if I "consent?"
So why are there still protests?
WOW! That is an embarrassingly deceptive cut and paste from the article.
Your intention to deceive is showing.
From your link with the part that you deceptively cut out highlighted:
Statement from United States Park Police acting Chief Gregory T. Monahan about the actions taken over the weekend to protect life and property - United States Park Police (U.S. National Park Service)
<snip>
The statement below was originally released on June 2, 2020.
WASHINGTON - The United States Park Police (USPP) is committed to the peaceful expression of First Amendment rights.
However, this past weekend’s demonstrations at Lafayette Park and across the National Mall included activities that were not part of a peaceful protest,
which resulted in injuries to USPP officers in the line of duty, the destruction of public property and the defacing of memorials and monuments.
During four days of demonstrations, 51 members of the USPP were injured; of those, 11 were transported to the hospital and released and three were admitted.
<snip>
On Monday, June 1, the USPP worked with the United States Secret Service to have temporary fencing installed inside Lafayette Park.
At approximately 6:33 pm, violent protestors on H Street NW began throwing projectiles including bricks, frozen water bottles and caustic liquids.
<snip>
As many of the protestors became more combative, continued to throw projectiles, and attempted to grab officers’ weapons, officers then employed the use of smoke canisters and pepper balls.
USPP officers and other assisting law enforcement partners did not use tear gas or OC Skat Shells to close the area at Lafayette Park. Subsequently, the fence was installed.
<snip>
There is no footage of that happening and frankly, I am not sure there is reason to believe this guy since he is associated with the Trump administration (which is an immediate credibility killer).
I edited out, because that stuff does not matter until it can be independently verified. Ideally by independent and international human rights experts, but I doubt that will realistically happen.

Doing a little research, it appears that pepper balls are very directed devices unlike tear gas. The officers can aim at and effectively incapacitate the specific terrorists and leave the peaceable protesters unharmed.
You said that Pepper balls is a form of tear gas. As accurate as saying that a scalpel is a form of a lawn mower.

Pepper balls
Pepper balls are to tear gas, what a BB shot is to a bomb.

Because this is how I see people behaving, so I am just telling it like I see it.
It seems appropriate to ask you to link to the source that shows that the overwhelming majority of gun owners in the US oppose the rights protected under the First Amendment.
Whatcha got?
Background in what--Internetology?
When military leaders have to keep your civilian President in check, people may want to begin believing Tyranny has entered the building.
Not that I expect any of the gun zealots to appose a strongman president. Hell, most of them already oppose democracy anyway.

"Hey, they didn't use Chemical X to spray down my fellow citizens. They used Chemical Y."
Got it.
If this doesn't smack of the tyranny the 2nd amendment people have been yammering about for at least 30 years...
I have to ask. What does?
It seems like people might do even a bit of research before exposing their stupidity, but it also seems that those gripped by stupidity don't do so.
Los Angeles, CA: LAPD sharing a jovial chuckle with a white woman as she spraypaints a building to make it look like it was done by protestors. You can even hear police suggest she write "Floyd" too
Next we'll see water cannons on the streets
China will criticize the USA's treatment of democracy protesters
How the wheel turns.
China is probably happy about this as it gives them legitimacy for their actions on Hong Kong.
The people who supposedly need guns to prevent tyranny support the strongman president. How ironic is that?
Wouldn't it be ironic if that barrier was made out of cement and covered in graffiti on the public side...and when rump is voted out, the "Washington Wall" is torn down by democracy protesters ?
