New Zealand gun crimes rise to highest in a decade despite strict gun bans

How long is that journey and how many die that don't need to? The Cartels and other criminals won't give up their guns, only the law abiding will.

So more guns is the answer for Mexico?

When has that ever worked?

It's just a journey towards dictatorship. Rights are lost one by one, not all at once.

That's right you don't think people should defend themselves only die.

I wonder what possesses people to think this way. They'll say something like the murder rate is really high, and you shouldn't have guns because of it. People who don't murder shouldn't be allowed the rights and magically murderers will disappear.

That's why I find it disingenuous to say this is about safety. It's about control. The only reason you would want to control people it's the first thing to do things they wouldn't otherwise do.

If we look at it it falls on party lines just about. The ones advocating for control are the ones who desire control or power.

The fact is people could boog at any moment. And that undermines control.

It's not about safety it's about them wanting power over you.

Name a country with low gun deaths

New Zealand gun crimes rise to highest in a decade despite strict gun bans

The same thing in England. And Australia sees more guns than pre-ban.

That wasn't supposed to happen

Gun crime rates and killings involving guns in New Zealand reached their highest level in a decade this year despite the country's strict gun control measures lauded by left-wing politicians in the United States.

The figures, obtained from police under the Official Information Act by news outlet RNZ, show that gun crime has increased in the country in 2018 and 2019:

Last year, there were 3540 occasions where an offender was found with a gun.

And in both of the last two years, the rate of deadly incidents involving a firearm was the highest it had been since 2009.

The number of guns seized by police is also on the rise, up almost 50 percent on five years earlier at 1263 last year.

An officer was attacked by someone wielding a gun 13 times in 2019, up two on 2018 but remaining steady over the past five years.

New Zealand earned praise from gun control advocates in the spring 2019 after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern banned all "military-style semi-automatic weapons" and "assault rifles" in the wake of a massacre of 50 people at two mosques in Christchurch. As a part of the ban, the government implemented a gun buyback program allowing legal gun owners to surrender their firearms to the government for "fair and reasonable compensation." Proponents of the ban assumed that it would result in fewer guns in the country, and thus, fewer gun crimes. But that evidently is not what has happened so far.

We don't have a gun ban... that is one reason why the crime rate with guns is rising. A ban would solve that.

Yeah only honest citizens obey them anyway.

These ridiculous people cannot be so lame as to say they are the law abiding ones when they are also the ones who claim they will kill any who try to make laws that take their guns away. law abiding people don't pick and choose the laws they will obey .

"Fake News" from New Zealand....?

What "lie" do you think the NEW ZEALAND news agency told?

And is it a lie that the UK gun crime is up even with a ban?

And that Australia sees more Illicit guns after the ban than before?

As to Americans... Millions who simply want to enjoy the Constitutional rights as set forth in the Bill of Rights.

The original link is from an american news agency. And apparently one that wishes to promote a no gun restriction agenda.
And the lie you are not bright enough to spot the obvious on is the cherry picking of information to create a scene that does not exist.

It is due to the fact that new zealand police still are an unarmed police force that does not think killing is the service police offer against criminals.

America is a society bred to see violence as an answer to problems. The link i gave shows that new zealand is not. Which is why you have so many deaths and crimes involving guns.

Yes, and the official response is that violence is not actually an issue.

But the data shows officers presented their firearms 305 times in 2019, while faced with more than 3500 firearms incidents.

In 2016, officers pulled their guns 456 times, when faced with 237 fewer firearms incidents.

What we're putting that down to, firstly is recruitment. We're recruiting the right people into the police," Penny said.

"It's also our training. When we look at all of that in a really fast changing, dynamic situation, it is creating a really good picture.

"Some people would think increased firearms offences would naturally play out with an increase in police presenting firearms, and that's just not the case.

"It hasn't been the case over the past decade."

Americans will read gossip rags that push their belief in violence through guns is the answer to any problem. They will ignore any comments that say police should not be violent.

So what?

Rates of gun crimes and killings using guns at highest levels in a decade

In each of the last two years, New Zealand recorded 2.4 gun-related deaths per million people.

But if you go back to 2014, New Zealand had less than 1 death per million people, so there has been a steep rise over the past few years.
