Gun Sales Spike In April

Thank you for your input. In my state, since new legislation was passed in 2013, lawmakers made sweeping changes to my state’s gun laws. For starters, they broadened the scope of what the state classifies as assault weapons, banning more than 150 gun models. They also banned the sale of gun magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. A permit is required to buy any type of gun or ammunition. The state also has a registry of deadly weapon offenders and a universal background check system.

By 2015, deaths by guns decreased 40% and by 2018 our state was in the top five states in America with the lowest rates of gun death.

Which means really nothing. Think about it, one person one gun is all it takes, just one.

Many people believe, or want to believe that it's primarily gun-loving republicans that are in a gun buying frenzy but I tend to believe that there's a lot of liberals who are buying handguns because they realize that pro-trump conservatives are crazy gun owners that are just itching for all-out anarchy and can't wait to shoot them some 'libruls'. I think a whole lot of liberals are preparing for that happening. People are going to protect their family and their homes at any cost and if it takes purchasing a gun to keep at home for self-defense from crazy people that want to start a war, they're going to buy guns too and it's much easier to get a gun license for a handgun than it is for an assault style weapon.

Dumb statement
Maybe people buy guns because of stupid liberal policies like bail reform and releasing people out of jail only to victimize others again.
Instead of quarantine in jail, de Blasio released 180 from jail only to rearrest 50 of them for additional crimes.
Cuomo passed bail reform releasing felons who then are released to commit other crimes including murder. How many of those people released will return for their Court appearance once released?

Your point?
Why didn’t you explain with strict gun regulations Maryland is off the charts in gun deaths.

I'm not here to engage anyone in a debate on gun laws. Have it all to yourself. Someone asked me what the law was regarding hand guns in my state. I replied. I will not engage with you and I've said it before, so take a hint and run along.

Media and gun industry peddling fear.

No, the gun industry stands to gain nothing at all

The gun industry does stand to make a profit however they are not the ones responsible for peddeling fear. The gun industry isn't putting shootings as the lead story 3 times a day 7 days a week or 24/7 depending on outlet. It's not the gun industry that searches out victims to interview. It's not the gun industry producing segments like "Crime in America: On the Rise?".

That's the media falling over themselves to grab viewers with dramatic headlines...

A nice way to say the media is peddling fear

It's not the gun industry that spams those stories into threads here either.

I think Michael Moore alluded to the different approach of US versus Canadian media in his 2002 documentary "Bowling for Columbine".
I have not seen the fauxumentry in long time so I'll take your word for it.

Yeah, he made the point that if there was a shooting in the local area, a US News show would always make it their lead story (unless there was an even bigger one).

I have a feeling some people put their $1200 towards a new purchase......

Not necessarily. If by "assault style weapon" you're talking about full automatics than yes, they're harder to get than handguns. They require a Class III firearms permit and even then you can only get ones that were manufactured 1986 or earlier. If by "assault style weapon" you're talking about semi automatic rifles that might look like they're used in the army but aren't, those often fall under the same regulations as any other kind of rifle which are in many cases easier to get than handguns.

Well if there is anything better than being shut in with loved ones during a pandemic, it is being shut in with loved ones who have handguns. What could go wrong?

Provided that your loved ones are safe and responsible, nothing.

I live in a state where there was a mass murder of children, maybe that's why our gun laws are a bit more rigid.

did the mass murderer obtain his weapons legally?

Just in case they see a man they think might be a burglar and decide to go and murder him as he goes out for a jog.

Most people are not as delusional as you are, and you make it very clear about how delusional you are with your posts.

and some people just get scared and buy a bunch of stuff.

If you buy the stuff beforehand and more importantly if you acquire the knowledge, skill, and understanding beforehand then you won't end up getting scared and you won't end up making panic purchases.
