I'm a bit slow posting this week due to being a bit under the weather.....seasonal allergies are hell, and I keep waking up to a layer of pollen that looks like yellow snow outside. :thumbdown

I hear you about the pollen. Everything is yella.
Dinosaurs huh?

Dinosaurs huh?

Florida has them. They only attack what they can swallow whole. They're not territorial regarding other species. They only get nasty if one steps on their nest (big things, can't be missed). They don't chase people.

Friggen pines everywhere on our property.....if I didnt think it would annoy the neighbors and violate more than a few ordinances, I would have resorted to a scorched earth policy years ago.

I understand they have an affinity for golf courses....Mar A Lago sounds like a nice relocation center.

With all the craziness in the world its nice to see some "good news" stories.

Saw this posted yesterday...

Compared to other countries, the US has one of the lowest burglary/home invasion rates. Even when not in an irrational panic mode, like we are now. Australia, England, Scotland, Canada, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Denmark, France, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands all have much higher burglaries/home invasions and contact crimes (e.g., assault) than the US.

Too many snakes.

That wouldn't kill pines and probably increases pollen.

Many ecosystems, particularly prairie, savanna, chaparral and coniferous forests, have evolved with fire as an essential contributor to habitat vitality and renewal.[1] Many plant species in fire-affected environments require fire to germinate, establish, or to reproduce...

Much of the southeastern United States was once open longleaf pine forest with a rich understory of grasses, sedges, carnivorous plants and orchids. The above maps shows that these ecosystems (coded as pale blue) had the highest fire frequency of any habitat, once per decade or less. Without fire, deciduous forest trees invade, and their shade eliminates both the pines and the understory. Some of the typical plants associated with fire include Yellow Pitcher Plant and Rose pogonia. The abundance and diversity of such plants is closely related to fire frequency. Rare animals such as gopher tortoises and indigo snakes also depend upon these open grasslands and flatwoods.[42] Hence, the restoration of fire is a priority to maintain species composition and biological diversity.[43]

I'm not one of those gun nutters but I would be less than honest not to admit that I have a .40 cal less than 2 feet from my pillow and a .12 guage tucked just under the edge of the bed. I have a 9mm in the living room, (in case I can't make it to the bedroom.) My .40 cal goes with me when I leave the house. I'm like, keys? Check. Wallet? Check. Cell phone? Check. S&W .40? Check.

I have others but they are locked away in a safe and won't do me any good if I need to use them immediately.

I do worry about my wife though, when she is away from home. I'm thinking about getting a little .380 for her and taking her to the range. She has been opposed to that in the past but here lately she seems a little more open to that idea.

Hope I never have to use them.

My wife originally carried a Taurus PT 908....it is a nice single stack mag 9mm ( she has very small hands), but several years ago she decided to move to a Taurus Judge Public Defender; the grip fits well in her hand, and the .45 LC alternating in the cylinder with .410 PDX1 shotgun shell makes for sufficient stopping power.

Its often been pointed out that when you take away the leftist controlled major city ****holes and their violent crime rates, our crime rates drop to virtual zero.

Well, that is certainly true in my case. However, I'm an exception since I live in the middle of nowhere. It is rather difficult to have a crime when there is nobody around to commit it. It is also estimated that there are 4.5 firearms for every Alaskan household. So even if someone were so inclined to break into someone's home in Alaska, particularly during the Winter months, it would be suicidal. Burglars would have better success during the Summer months when we are out catching our salmon or hunting caribou.

"SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man fired randomly from his vehicle several times while driving through a southwest Missouri city before eventually crashing into a convenience store, where he walked inside, opened fire and left five people dead, including a police officer and himself, police said Monday.
The dead from Sunday night's shooting include a store employee and two men who were in the store, police said. A second officer was injured, along with another person.
The gunman's motives remain unclear, Springfield police Chief Paul Williams said at a news conference, where his voice broke as he described his officers' actions.
Williams said police received reports of “multiple shooting calls throughout the city” late Sunday starting in the south and moving north through the city's east side...
