FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Police say a bystander armed with a gun kept a brutal baseball bat beating on Saturday from being even worse.
Fort Wayne police say the bystander pulled out a gun when they saw a masked man beating the victim in the Glen Apple Walmart parking lot just before 10:30 a.m.
That's when police say the man got back into his burgundy Chevy Impala and drove away.
A detective spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over but was unsuccessful. Police say officers in Wells County also tried to pull it over but couldn't.
Investigators later arrested and charged 21-year-old Levi Arnold of Bluffton with attempted murder

There's something to say about being prepared.

Perhaps if the fella being beaten with the bat had just given up his wallet and called the police...

These anecdotal stories every now and then do not make the case for or against gun control, they are just instances reported in a sea of things that are never reported.

But they’re the only argument that gun nuts have. And it’s the one they always fall back on.

They know they can’t make the case with statistics. So they have to rely on these anonymous one time incidents. Most of which run counter to the statistical norm.

I’m certain that all the bystanders and the Wal Mart management really felt a lot better when some stranger leaped out of a car brandishing a gun!

Yup - sometimes a person with a gun can help thwart a crime in progress.

So what?

I see no responsible people arguing that the people should have guns.

That is the very theme of the OP.

It’s the “good guy with a gun” claim. Of course, this assumes that the rest of us automatically trust (or should trust) the stranger who is brandishing a gun.

I have saved a number of lives because I was armed. True I was an off duty PO but I have no magic powers any other gun owner has. Once I came across a traffic altercation where a man and his son were being beaten badly by a group of gangsters with bats and blunt instruments. With my little .38 and my bird dog i scared the attackers away and saved the two. I told the cops responding I didnt even want to be on the paper work.

In todays climate I'd merely call 911 and move on.

Ah huh.

"A 13-year-old boy was killed and four other children, including two 12-year-olds, were wounded when several assailants let loose a barrage of gunfire on a group of young people exiting a dance party in suburban Baltimore, authorities said.
A 19-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting early Sunday that broke out in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Rosedale, about six miles northeast of Baltimore, prompting outrage from community leaders.
“This incident of gun violence in our community is shocking and horrifying. It has no place in our community, and we refuse to allow it to become normalized,” said Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski Jr.
Gunfire erupted just after midnight as people were leaving a dance party at the Triple Threat Elite Dance studio in the Kenwood Shopping Mall, according to police...

Yes a sea of things such as DGU's that never get reported since no weapon was drawn let alone fired.

I missed the leapt out brandishing part. But apparently everyone else was okay with standing by watching. Bet there were a lot of cell phones recording though.

How about the guy/women standing behind you in the checkout lane?

Kitty Genovese redux....this is what our society has become.

Lets not have guns so we do not scare the people inside Walmart while a human is getting beaten to death outside in the parking lot.

Obviously true, but do you really expect sanity and reason to prevail in a US discussion of guns?

Does that sound like it would encourage the man to stop assaulting people for the means of petty theft, embolden him to try for more drastic measures?

I've had six patients that I can think of, off the top of my head. Who started their careers of petty crime in much the same fashion. Only to end up permanently injuring someone, or killing them because they felt it was safe to escalate their actions. In search of more money, or a much bigger fix.

I'm all for criminal justice reform, but this kind of stuff needs to be stopped before it grows to something much worse.

This woman was gunned down by her boyfriend as she ran from her own house. I guess he shot her in the back before he shot himself (another one of those suicide numbers we're supposed to ignore)...

Clearly I failed to indicate my sarcasm in my statement.

She should have armed herself so she could fire back and defend herself.
