[W:112, 773]The Gun Show "Loophole"

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

And I appreciate that. Gun registration already exists in lots of places even in the US. They tend to have low gun deaths. The same is true in first world countries all over the world. If you bought from a dealer it is already defacto registered. I am mostly looking to close the loopholes

I just don't see the benefit of a registration especially since the very people you would want registered simply wont comply. Throw in the fact that it is incredibly dangerous for the government to have that kind of information (even if mostly incomplete due to noncompliance) and it seems to me that the negatives far outweigh any positives.

You currently are registered with the government in a dozen ways. No one even questions that

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

Surrendering guns under a court order is not gun confiscation. Are you suggesting those whose firearms were surrendered in Florida should be able to keep them? Here is an example of one of the cases:

Guns seized from 3 Volusia residents under new 'red flag' law - News - The Florida Times-Union - Jacksonville, FL

Should Ty Buscoe have been allowed to keep his guns?

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

Bernie is a typical leftist dumbass that spouts anti gun rhetoric when the topic comes up, not knowing enough about the topic to be conversant on the topic and not caring enough about gun deaths in the country to address the actual problems.

Unfortunately true. He uses emotional rhetoric with distorted "facts" to push an agenda. It's very deceitful. I've yet to see a single Democratic leader push better mental health care and supporting legislation as a primary means to save lives from gun violence. Like last night, Bernie was just like all Democratic leaders who spout about tens of thousands of "gun deaths" or "gun violence" then hide the fact 2/3s of those tragedies are suicides. Actual gun murders are around 12,000 and most of those are with handguns.

Buscoe committed a few crimes without the red flag law so he would have lost that gun anyway.

What is the process for an innocent American to have their pistol returned if the complaint against them was spurious? Did you see the other threads were the Feds are confiscating money and keeping it even though no crime was committed? Do you really want to give even more unfettered power to our government?

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

Thanks for the link proving me correct. From your link:
Verdict: True

Feinstein made the statement in 1995 during an episode of “60 Minutes.” She appears to have been referring to assault-style weapons, not all guns.

After Obama's 2013 gun control bill failed I asked several gun-grabbers like yourself "If that bill had passed, would you have been satisfied that provided sufficient gun control in the United States and that you'd never mention the subject again?" None ever answered the question presumably because the answer would have been a resounding "No."

Now do this one: :D

The 'Red Flag Law" is not relevant in Buscoe's case. He literally has made threats of violence both during the incident USING a weapon and was recorded on the phone stating he was going to get out of jail and kill his neighbor while in jail. Florida law prior to the passage of the Red Flag law has Buscoe guilty of Aggravated Assault...a Class 3 felony with a sentencing enhancement that requires a mandatory minimum 10 year sentence. Felons cant own firearms.

The other 2 cases mentioned in the article involve incidents that are not so clear cut, and individuals that have been cleared by medical and psychological professionals. They are deemed to be no longer a threat to themselves or others. Should they have their weapons seized?

And yet the prosecutors office still went ahead with a petition to have his guns removed. Why do you think that is? They like paperwork? They enjoy hearings?

Why do you suppose the prosecutor went and filed a temporary order? They enjoy the process?

Perhaps. An eagerness to use the law.

You didnt answer the question. Should people that have been deemed NOT a threat by competent authority (medical and psychological) have their Constitutional rights stripped from them? If so...why?

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

How does registration help if the only guns registered are those of people that aren't likely to commit a crime? You keep saying it "could help" but have failed to give any actual benefit registration could provide other than annoy legal gun owners.

the supreme court has already ruled that those who possess firearms illegally, cannot be prosecuted (Fifth Amendment) for failing to register their firearms. When gun banners push registration and claim it is to control criminals, you know they are lying since registration cannot be used to prosecute criminals

How about you cite some cases where this was the case in Florida....

Absolutely. We do that now all the time

On Buscoe? You don't see the fact he broke the law by not only waving a gun around but firing it? Why do you think a "red flag" law was necessary to enforce the multiple laws he broke?

Re: The Gun Show "Loophole"

Private sales for $$$ in parking lots....and advertised in places like Craig's List.

More false information from the Gun-Banner mob since Craig's List banned firearms sales almost a decade ago.

Here's a personal philosophy of mine: "Anyone who lies to me should never, ever be trusted. If they made a mistake and apologize, they get one second chance, but only that single second chance."

FWIW, Rich burned up his second chance with me months ago. YMMV

It's your link. Are you saying no one? How big of a gun-banner are you? Do you understand the difference between a government that seeks to expand freedoms and one that seeks to ban freedoms?

Really, I wouldn't know, having never bought or sold a gun.

In that case, places like Craig's List

(which is what I said)

I don't believe you
