Common sense gun control

If that were the new normal, our homicide rate would be much higher than it was before shall-issue carry licensing became the norm. The opposite is true. Sorry, no matter how many times it is said, or in how many different ways, "rivers of blood in the streets" is not a thing associated with people lawfully carrying firearms in public.

Obviously. He was attempting to derail a valid argument with twaddle

The crime of having an unregistered thing.

If your gun was registered to you and the database not only had your details but the details of the gun ?(like a ballistics finger print) might that cause you to pause a moment and reconsider your actions with the increased knowledge that you'll be caught ?

No, they wouldn't.

Some guns out of necessity? Yes, all of their guns? Most certainly not.

You are living in a fantasy world and simply don't understand the typical gun owner.

To make people comply with any law, the penalties for not complying must be harsh enough to ensure obedience.

I nderstand that the typical gun owner does want a huge fine and/or a prison sentence.

Let's talk about your car. You need a driver's license to operate your car. What's more, the car has to be registered with a state issued license plate.

Why all the precautions? Because cars in the hands of the wrong driver are a threat to honest, working folk. You don't want to issue a drivers license to people who can't control a car, mentally ill people, etc.

So let's do the same with guns as we do with cars.

Moreover, let's combine the two processes. When you get your driver's license, you can get a gun license at the same time if you choose. When you register your car, you register your guns.

You won't even notice the extra paperwork because you'll be renewing and registering at the same time your doing it for your car.

There's a lot less mass killings done with vehicles than guns so drivers licenses and vehicle registration work.

Common sense would be to properly enforce the laws we already have and then see if any more are needed.

That plan does not work anywhere in the US

Read better...I said that it needs to be. So you have no idea if it would work.

Your tired bumper sticker fails.

No, to make people comply with any law you need enforcement. The penalty is moot if you are unable to catch the person in the crime. For instance, if police can't search my property without a warrant then the presence of my "unregistered" guns is of no consequence and as long as I have a handgun that is registered for use in self defense then the odds of anyone finding out of my stash of "unregistered" weapons is nil. So again, most gun owners will not comply, there is a reason there is a joke among gun owners about boating accidents......

How? We have the greatest law enforcement in the world.

It has not been done because it cant be done.

Help prevent.

Gun related crimes...if your gun is registered to you on a national database and if you use it, the bullets can be traced back to you and your gun.
You might think twice about doing the crime.

How will the bullet be traced backed? Assuming it's retrieved in good enough shape. I could fire a round off and catch it, and then fire another and catch it. The only thing you could match up might be the caliber. CSI makes it look easy and fool proof...It's BS. A ballistic 'fingerprint' can be radically altered in seconds. Even finding the empty casing assuming it's not a revolver used. Barring altering just 10-15 rounds fired also changes things as far as any ballistic go.

Whoopee...doesnt mean that the laws are being properly enforced. They are not. They are always proposing "new laws" to make LE actually enforce the current gun laws here, like not following up on when prohibited persons attempt to buy a gun and are denied.

And after many mass shootings, we see that the shooter slipped thru the cracks even tho they were identified as risks or denied a purchase.

The recent shooting here in Seattle, 9 shot (1 killed) by 2 gang bangers? They had 67 convictions between them, most misdemeanors, but some felonies...they had no business being on the streets period, much less having guns when...gee whiz, it was already illegal for them to own them :doh

3 types of giant fails right there.

It's idiotic and moronically knee-jerk to insist on new laws when we dont even know if the current ones would work if properly enforced. It's just 'feel-good' naivete to create new laws that will also go improperly enforced.

Think for just a minute.

Why has no city in America developed this perfect system of perfect enforcement?

Are they lazy? Stupid?

Or is it those horrible democrats preventing enforcement in places with high gun deaths like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana....

I dont know why...but it's a fact and those facts come out frequently after gun violence.

If they had been properly enforced, we have the proof that at least some of those incidents could have been prevented (examples: the Cruz kid in FL, the TX church shooter)

And then there's always the most obvious one: no laws will keep criminals from getting guns.

No system is perfect. Trust me if they could do it they would.

Our law enforcement system is the best in the world...and they still make mistakes.

Face it....they need better laws

Not mistakes.

The system isnt proven because it hasnt been properly enforced.

Enforce the laws we have before making more. It's cheaper, it's validation, it's the intelligent thing to do. Not waste more time flailing about in 'hopes' of a Holy Grail.

Tell me why they are not doing that.

Be honest.

Are they lazy or stupid? Should we double their budget?

Tell me how to fix this

I already posted an answer. I dont know.

I am all for additional political pressure or solutions that will get them to do so.

It cant be done. Cops are not stupid. But they can only work with what they have.

Really? Every grieving parent asks that, no matter what.

Your stupid emotionally manipulative response fails.

Cops have the laws they need...prove otherwise.

You cant, until they do so at a much more consistent rate.

Here is my proof...they cant do it currently. They just cant.

Even you admit you dont know how to make them do it.

Political pressure? To do what? Is there a police chief saying he wont enforce the law? No

What is preventing them from enforcing current laws?
