...or maybe it was boy Jesus.

Jerry Falwell will 'call for civil disobedience' if Virginia Democrats pass gun bans

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. said he will "call for civil disobedience" if Virginia Democrats pass several gun control bills...

Falwell, who became president of the private evangelical Christian university after his father died, has claimed that President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence represent the most faith-friendly White House "ever."

Who knew God wanted his flock to be armed to the teeth and to be represented by several liars and a thief?

God of the OT instructed genocide, down to every animal, so Falwell is well within the bounds of the OT. They'd have used AKs back them, if they had'em. It's that Christ version of God that has mollified matters with the NT. Kinda like Mika Brzezinski mollifying Joe Scarborough' politics.

Falwell is an idiot...

Somebody mention Maxine...:2razz:

Ummmm, even conservatives know what a loon Falwell is. It would be like me saying you listen to every word Maxine Waters has to say, including, "Impee foady fie. Impee foady fie" with her fist raised to an adoring crowd in a living room.

So, you're saying the God and guns crowd are dumber than Maxine. I agree.

I think they are probably on a par with each other.

Why do you think all conservatives are gun toting bible bangers? I detest all religion as being the opiate of the masses and to keep humans in check.

I'm conservative enough not to vote for anyone who aligns with assholes like Falwell. They're not.

Jesus told the disciples to buy a sword to protect themselves and if they didn't have a sword to sell their jacket to go buy one.

Considering the timing, which was right before Jesus' death, it's quite possible that the reason for Jesus asking his disciples to buy a sword was so they would have their swords on hand on the night of his betrayal...that made it possible for Jesus to teach them a vital lesson...“All those who take the sword will perish by the sword"...Matthew 26:52...After all, Jesus saw no need for them to have a sword before that night...

Funny

Before that night, they also didn't need a purse, or a bag, but Jesus told them to take with them their purses and bags.

Jesus wanted them to have a sword for when they were persecuted in his name.

Jesus was talking to the men who arrested him:

Matthew 26

50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d]

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

Basically saying: 'A sword? That's it?...lol". When he said: "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?"

In effect, he's saying "don't bring a knife to a gunfight, boy"

Wrong...he was talking to his companions...one of them had used his sword to cut off a soldier's ear and Jesus healed it...

Mathew 10, 34-36

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household."

Yeah, he was talking about the divisions within one's own household when one became his follower and others didn't...

Elvira, I've so missed talking to you.

"I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law"

Sound like Jesus said he came to incite violence even with families.

And yet the Bible says honor your parents....

One merely has to read the whole account in context to get the gist of what Jesus meant and it wasn't for family members to take up swords to start fighting one another...one can still have honor and respect for one's parents and yet, disagree with them...

I've missed you, too, no one can frustrate me quite like you can:2razz:...where have ya been?

The text is clear, bringing a sword and setting son against his father....how can you reconcile that with the ten commandments and honoring your parents ?

I got myself banned by stupidly allowing myself to get into a flame war. Not in this section but the European one about Brexit which got unduly heated.

Well, I'm not going to argue about, I think you know, by what Jesus taught, that was not at all what he was saying...he was speaking symbolically about causing divisions in the household because some would reject him and his new cult he was starting, while other close family members chose to follow him...

Try to behave yourself and stay outta trouble..it's not good for your blood pressure....;)
