VA Gov declares state of emergency

A nonsensical and utterly unrelated analogy.

Americans can still acquire machine guns, period. No ban, period.

That is much like saying that folks can still acquire matching number, 1963 Corvette covertables - just not very many of them.

true-in states that allow them, but the price is prohibitive and they cannot buy any machine gun made in the last 34 years.
Costly and limited selection do not equal banned.

Actually, acquiring a 1963 convertible Corvette (matching numbers or not) would be more difficult than purchasing a machine gun, as there were only about 10,000 convertible Corvettes produced in 1963 and there are over 600,000 machine guns in the hands of American civilians that can be resold to other Americans.

The bottom line, simple truth regarding the purchasing of a machine gun in America is that the process involved is expensive and tedious, but entirely legal and possible.

unable to buy anything made after May 19,1986 is a ban-and it will ultimately be a total ban at some point. and there was absolutely no reason for it.

My point, which you seem to agree with, is that demand greatly exceeds supply causing (forcing?) the cost to limit the average person from obtaining what they want. Obviously, not everyone wanting a "machine gun" is willing to buy just any "machine gun" - just as someone wanting a specific type of pistol is unlikely to want one which is chambered in .22 LR or someone wanting a specific type and model year of Corvette is will to buy just any used car.

I’m not debating the reasoning behind the law, only that factually, it is not a ban.

Unless you’re acknowledging the fact that there is no ban, we are not in agreement.

that's dishonest--it is a complete and total ban on any machine gun made after May 19, 1986

Due to government restriction (ban on new models and parts) supply is limited - there is an impact due to the ban.

He's just flat out lying. There is an absolute ban on any machine gun that is less than 34 years old.

Nonsense. Most parts are readily available or can be manufactured.

There ya go! :applaud

There is no general ban on machine guns, but there is for machine guns produced after 1986.

Why was it so hard to just come out and say that, instead of repeatedly and falsely insisting that machine guns are banned?

you were the one who pretended there is no ban. and since current machine guns are so expensive, most people are unable to get one even if they want one.

Damn, you’re backsliding again. Remember, fees and forms don’t make a ban.

The anti gun movement is based on lies...

LOL

Gun owners tell the biggest ones like:

Guns are needed for self defense and hunting for food

Gun owners need their guns to protect themselves (non gun owners don't seemingly)

There are too many guns to collect/seize

Gun owners will never surrender their guns (usually accompanied with some hysterical rant encompassing freedom, 1776, tyranny, cold dead fingers etc)

Law enforcement would never disarm "honest" Americans anyway.

Which of those are actually a lie?

Which of those are actually a lie?

None of them are. They are all valid reasons to own a firearm. Some people just like to make up reasons to lie about gun owners to excuse their own prejudices about gun owners.

Excuses gun owners give for having guns:

1. Gun ownership is a natural right that supersedes any national laws/constitutions

2. Guns are necessary because:-
2.1 Some people need the to hunt animals because they live too far from a store
2.2 Without guns to protect them, gun owners would be killed/robbed/raped in an hour/day/week/month/year* *delete as appropriate

3. Gun seizure can never be done because:-
3.1 There are simply too many guns out there even for a country as powerful as the USA to collect/seize
3.2 No US law enforcement officer would ever disarm a fellow honest citizen.

Why do police have guns?

Including many park rangers and fish and game personnel.

guns are like parachutes. If someone needs one and doesn't have it, they normally aren't around long enough to admit the error in the prior beliefs.
