MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said a man was shot Thursday while trying to break into an apartment near Highland and Southern.
Police found a man with a gunshot wound around 1 p.m. at the University Highlands apartments in the 3400 block of Spottswood.
Officers detained one man on the scene and are continuing to investigate.
Police said the victim was trying to break into a residence when he was shot.
It was a scary situation that neighbors were shocked to hear about, but they’re hoping this failed burglary attempt will serve as a deterrent to any future criminals.

Well, it will keep that particular criminal from committing any future crimes.

In Tuscon:

Tucson police say a woman helped a pair of home invaders take the ambient temperature challenge early Wednesday morning when they tried to break into her home in the middle of the night. Cops believe the ne’er-do-wells thought they would find drugs in the home. Instead, they found lead.
One home invader died at the scene, the second at a local hospital. But the best part of the story: the neighbor told the Arizona Daily Star reporter that he too planned to tool up to protect his home. “I’m definitely going to get a gun to protect myself, too,” said Jay Spencer, a neighbor who has lived in the area for about seven months.[/I]

Score one for the good guys.

In the Arizona incident, the police department spokesman said he wasn't sure if the woman would face charges. From the description in the article, it looks like she killed these young men as they were attempting to break into the home but before they actually did it. Arizona does not have a castle doctrine law. In order for her to claim self-defense, the following condition must be met:

Except as provided in subsection B of this section, a person is justified in threatening or using physical force against another when and to the extent a reasonable person would believe that physical force is immediately necessary to protect himself against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful physical force.

13-404 - Justification; selfdefense

Another legal stipulation is the use of force must be proportional to the threat. You have a lone woman with a gun against two men apparently attempting to commit a felony, burglary. Obviously, her presumption is they are a threat to her well-being, perhaps even her life. And yet the authorities, under Arizona law, could charge her with a crime. This is a good example of why the state could use a castle doctrine law.

So not exactly a credible witness

And I'm pretty sure the 2nd amendment wasn't written so criminals could protect their stash.

The right of self-defense is an unalienable right recognized by the UN.....but obviously not in Canada.

Then why does the USA ban former felons from carrying ?

We shouldn't. I support seeing felons have full restitution of rights or to stay in prison if they can't be trusted. Unlike you, I'm not an authoritarian who seeks to ban things or dictate how people should live, what they should think or what they should believe. I support dropping bans on drugs and regulating them like alcohol and tobacco, mostly to protect minors, other citizens from DUI and quality of products.

Sure it was. All of the framers were criminals by your own definition as they were all either tax evaders or smugglers or both.

Well, we shouldn't. All it does is give the government a reason to put him back in prison even though he didn't do anything wrong. Having a gun in your home or on your person is not, in and of itself, a morally wrong thing to do.

Agreed.

He's written about murdering the Framers before. Example:
2. Independence Hall (or whatever it was called in 1776) 4th July 1776.
Walk in with a loaded AK-47 and execute every single one of those treasonous M***** - ******S
Go to George Washington's house, kick the door in and execute that traitor in front of his family with my AK-47

If you read several of his posts, you'll start to believe it. :)

Actually I have gone back and forth with him a few times, but I didn't think he was completely kookoo for cocoa puffs. Boy was I wrong.

So you don't see any problem with a supply of heroin and other addictive drugs ?

You don't think a sizable population of people hooked on heroin wouldn't be a problem ?

Interesting about your comment on felons and guns, mind if I reuse that in future ?

Agreed.

He's written about murdering the Framers before. Example:

That was tongue in cheek humor - the signers of the DOI weren't the framers of the Constitution Btw, but they were treasonous. So it would NOT be murder.

Glad to know my postings there did not go un-noticed :)

The Constitution was written for criminals under US law to protect their stash ?

I'm not sure you capable of thinking clearly.

Apparently some Brits haven't been able to get past the fact that their opinion stopped mattering here in the states about 240 years ago.

Is there a point to what seems to be emotobabbling arguments? are you trying to pretend that Democrat gun control schemes would have prevented those shootings? Since you didn't explain what caused the deaths, your attempt fails
