[W:195]Wexton bill would use credit card data to track firearms purchases

It is not going to go anywhere. As the article points out even if every financial institution was on board with this it would still take a government agency with a mechanism to process the data for certain habits, *then* you have to determine what law enforcement can do about it... if anything.

Feel good legislation, a name in the news... that is about all this is worth as it would not save the first life.

Why does she want people to use cash more?

It's a bad thing that there are members of Congress that want to pass a law that allows the government to surveil U.S. citizens while they're conducting legal actvity that is a right guaranteed by The Constitution.

The do anyway.

Haven't you read what Ed Snowden said ?

Better to change the Constitution and repeal the 2nd amendment and really have some gun control legislation.

It's a premium subscription service.

When it comes to guns, they all should be registered with caliber, make and serial number.

What about guns with no serial number?

What about guns with no serial number?

as 3D printers get better and CNC machines get cheaper, we will see lots more of these guns

What about guns with no serial number?

I think they're illegal or homemade.

Isn't it illegal to intentionally remove a serial number from a gun ?

I could be wrong but I think it is.

I believe you are correct, however making firearms would not be that difficult for anyone with a machinist background and the proper equipment...

I doubt it.

But hey, I suppose gun making macinery might be a thing in the future.

I used to have nearly all the foxfire books and one of them had a whole section on gun making the old fashion way.

I doubt that, most home made guns I've seen have been similar to a shotgun.

I think even the good old Brown Bess musket was factory made.

Maybe the "L" (Liar) word fits here as I have shown you plenty and none were similar to a shotgun.

Semi and full auto guns are relatively easy for anyone with the tools, plans and the desire.

I said the ones I'd seen resembled shotgun, not the pictures off the internet you copied and pasted.

TRANSLATION: Caught in another lie.

You saw what I posted therefore you saw guns not resembling shotguns.

Add to that I seriously doubt you have seen any real homemade shotguns.

It is not illegal to own a weapon without a serial number.

It is illegal to remove an existing serial number.

Isn't that what I said ?

However:

"Per 18 U.S.C. 922 (k), “It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to transport, ship, or receive, in interstate or foreign commerce, any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered or to possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.”

There’s also a similar provision in the NFA making it a crime to “to receive or possess a firearm [as defined by the NFA] having the serial number or other identification required by this chapter obliterated, removed, changed, or altered.” 26 U.S.C. § 5861(h).

The message seems to be, if it isn’t there, it better not have ever been there. However, there appears to be a tricky period between the enactment of the NFA in 1934 and the GCA in 1968:

So Fledermaus appears to be wrong yet again and it is illegal to receive a gun that's had the serial number erased although there is a little bit of a grey area to pre-1968 made guns. .

Incorrect.

It is not illegal to own a weapon without a serial number. TRUE. Not one thing you quoted prohibits the ownership of a gun without serial numbers. And there were plenty without serial numbers.

It is illegal to remove an existing serial number. TRUE. As noted in your copy & paste.

We know you don't read too well so here is the relevant bit:

"...It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to transport, ship, or receive...the message seems to be, if it isn’t there, it better not have ever been there ..."

What does "receive" mean in this case ?

So Fledermaus is wrong yet again, and just squirms about trying to deny it ?

Yours if you choose. Never mine.

Incorrect.

Now you are simply demonstrating intentional ignorance.

“It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to transport, ship, or receive, in interstate or foreign commerce, any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered or to possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.”

As I stated there are plenty of firearms with no serial number.

Therefore...

It is not illegal to own a weapon without a serial number. TRUE. Not one thing you quoted prohibits the ownership of a gun without serial numbers. And there were plenty without serial numbers.

It's an ill thought out policy, again a half measure on what she really wants to do.

Which is the problem. We all know what she wants to do.

She cannot do it without knowing where the guns are.
