Defensive Gun Use estimates range from 1 million a year to as many as 2.5 depending on analysis. But for the sake of argument I always use the anti=gun perspoective. The antigun perspective is that the 2.5 million number is laughable. David Hemenway...a critic of Gary Kleck, says it is much more reasonable to estimate that Defensive Gun Use only occurs between 55,000 to 80,000 times a year. Cook and Ludwig replecated Klecks studies and they found that iKlecks numbers are still too high...but the NCVS estimate of 116,000 is too low. The real number is more along the lines of 235,700.Kind of on a level of gun owners believing their guns are needed to protect against home invasion.
Not just home invasion but all manner of defensive gun uses. Conservative estimates by anti gun groups...place the number at 235,700 times a year.
Thats not on the level of Alien visitations...especially considering there are some 1.6 million violent crimes committed every year.
And when it is YOUR house...or someone that you care about being attacked...who will you call?
