If you are shot in a gun free zone, and you didnt bring your fire arm to comply, shouldnt you be able to sue the store or group that posted the gun free zone sign. It seems only right.

If someone does sue and wins, I bet the idiot gun free zone signs would very quickly come down. Reminder, more than 90% of mass shootings happen in gun free zones.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but I think it's a very interesting topic. If you are forced to disarm and find yourself unable to defend yourself against a gunman who isn't following the rules and laws (as criminals do), is the property owner responsible to some extent?

I agree if a public commercial location unless the location provided trained, armed security.

No - since you were made aware of the risk which you voluntarily assumed.

How about if your plane is hijacked?

But what if the store located in that gun free zone is the only place for me to buy say perscription drugs I need. My health ins states I need to buy drugs at a drug store "in network".

I think the gun manufacturer should be sued for allowing the weapon to drag its owner into the zone.

Sooo...you should be able to sue if you don't commit a crime, but someone else does? Keeping an open mind, but wondering about parallels. Is there any other situation you can think of where you can sue because you didn't commit a crime, but someone else did?

So what? The store is not responsible for your safety (from criminal attack) with or without a "no guns" sign being posted. That drug store certainly did not force you to buy any particular medical care insurance plan.

First rule of a gunfight: having a gun does not make you bulletproof.

If you wish to patronize a soft target, thats on you.

I guess you never fly

Frequently......but getting through the metal detectors, body scans, pat downs, and armed security and sky marshals hardly qualifies air travel as a soft target; and over here we fly armed anyway.

Tough question unless you are REQUIRED to enter a gun free zone, i.e. the courthouse or such, I think the defense would be that you didn't have to choose to be there and you knew it was gun free so, no liability. At the courthouse, meanwhile, there is such intense security--you are just short of strip searched when you come in--there is less risk.

In both cases though, tough call.

My insurance allows for mail order and there is always home delivery, if not then you voluntarily picked the wrong insurance company... sucks to be you... :peace

Where is here????

Wrong!!!! Would you sue a fork mfg for making you fat????

Walmart is being sued by at least one victim of the El Paso mass murder. Not for banning firearms IIRC, but for not providing enough security. Be interesting to see how that works out.

One question comes to mind, since you claim so many mass shootings occur in 'gun' free zones you'd think there would be around 5% of the people in the building who have CCLs- why hasn't there been a rather long line to sue like you wish someone would???

Reminder more than 99.9999% of the time people don't die while in a 'gun' free zone. Fear the text distracted driver than the 'gun' free zone.... :peace

No one has addressed the fact that over 90% of mass shooting have occurred in gun free zones.

Why would you even live someplace where you need a gun to protect yourself? I sure as hell wouldn't.
And is that 14 year old girl ahead of you in the Burger King line-up armed? No? She's 'way more vulnerable than you are, lives in the same place and she's not only not armed, she's not allowed to be. Makes all those grown men with handguns hidden on them look kind of cowardly, don't it?

You can sue them for leaving the door open too, but I doubt you'll win.
