...you're More Likely to Shoot a Loved One

Reminds me of that old but true argument I've been making forever: If you own a gun, after shooting yourself, you are more likely to shoot a loved one.

A person pulling the trigger on a gun is most likely to be shooting themselves, then their family, then commit a felony, then way, way, way down the line, if they're lucky, they hit a bad guy.

The True Odds of Shooting a Bad Guy With a Gun | Psychology Today

They should post these statistics at gun retail outlets.

As we’ve seen, to be understood by that crowd, it would probably have to be dumbed down a few more grade levels.

"People who own a backyard swimming pool" are more likely to drown in a backyard swimming pool than "people who don't own a backyard swimming pool".

And you should see the correlation between "car ownership" and "the likelihood of dying in a car accident".

For some people perhaps but not for me. Whether or not I own guns in both cases I am zero percent likely to shoot myself and/or a loved one.

Facts say when you pull a trigger and shoot someone, it's infinitely more likely to be yourself or a loved one than a bad guy. Facts are pesky things. I know.

Yes, like a gun, your swimming pool is more likely to kill you or a loved one than a bad guy. Your point?

But you are not really worried about our safety and you don't believe in others making their own choices, hmmmm something people reading should seriously consider when it comes down to agendas.

So, me pointing out facts is some nefarious plot?

Infinitely? That means bad guys are never shot? There's a difference between real facts and what you call facts.

Of course. If I had a swimming pool I couldn't imagine drowning a bad guy in it except in very unusual circumstances. But, you aren't making a fuss about people having swimming pools.

I was questioning the significance of your statistics.

Simple. If you shoot someone, it's far more likely to be yourself or a loved one than a bad guy.

THis is not hard.

This isn't the "swimming pool" sub-forum, last I looked.

I'm not questioning what your statistics are. It is clear what you are saying.

I'm also not questioning the truthfulness of your statistics. I haven't verified them, but I see no reason to doubt them.

I'm only questioning the significance of those statistics.

In other words, so what? What's the big deal?

Perhaps not but people in general don't make a big fuss about other people owning swimming pools.

By the same token people shouldn't make a big fuss about other people owning guns, and yet they do. People are morons in that regard.

Almost never would be rather apt.

So you're saying bad guys are almost never shot. That may be true and I would hope to never have to shoot a bad guy yet there is a possibility, however unlikely, that I could be in such a situation. However, there is absolutely no possibility of me shooting myself or a loved one.

This started when Democrats tried to hide the fact that they were less than zealous about stopping violent street crime, by adopting gun control laws. Those who make a fuss over people owning guns, are almost always people who don't like the fact that many gun owners vote against Democrats

please learn to google it yourself. I note that you never post anything relevant on gun threads and only seem to demand I answer your silly questions-questions you can easily answer yourself. So I have to conclude that given your lack of posting on gun threads nor your reticence to question any other posters are not mere coincidence

I think lots of people want to know why the ONLY times you drop by on gun threads is to direct stupid questions my way.

In relation to suicide, domestic homicide and accidents, bad guys being shot by the gun in the home is pretty freaking rare. Facts are facts.

and smart people understand that shooting a bad guy is only one of many ways, crimes are prevented by honest people being armed. How many times do cops shoot people with guns versus times they force compliance by suspects merely by the presence of firearms in the possession of the police?
