NRA Was 'Foreign Asset' To Russia Ahead of 2016, New Senate Report Finds : NPR


The National Rifle Association acted as a "foreign asset" for Russia in the period leading up to the 2016 election, according to a new investigation unveiled Friday by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.

Drawing on contemporaneous emails and private interviews, an 18-month probe by the Senate Finance Committee's Democratic staff found that the NRA underwrote political access for Russian nationals Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin more than previously known — even though the two had declared their ties to the Kremlin.

Uh, is that part of the 2nd Amendment?

I doubt it. But, it certainly is a great way to use the 2nd Amendment to undermine the sovereignty of the USA.

Hint: Grassley is the Chairman of the committee. Nothing will get done unless HE says it gets done.

Hint: Even if Grassley turns total swamp creature and supports Wyden, all they can do is refer the matter to the DOJ or the IRS.

Washington – With no facts to support their call for an audit of the National Rifle Association’s tax-exempt status, Senate Finance Committee Democrats relied heavily on assumptions and innuendo to conjure a mirage of impropriety surrounding a 2015 trip by NRA officials to Russia. However, a report issued today by the committee’s minority staff summarizing its review of the evidence failed to establish abuse of its tax-exempt status.

“…the Minority report reads more like a political document directed at an organization well-known in U.S. politics to be despised by Democrats because of its advocacy for Second Amendment rights. This Majority finds no wrongdoing by the NRA or its officials that would reasonably call into question the NRA’s tax-exempt status, based on the documents provided to the Committee,” the Republican majority wrote in its analysis of the minority’s investigation summary.

“The Minority report uses terms like ‘raises concerns’ in an attempt to embarrass the NRA while absolving the Minority from having to assert any serious factual or legal analysis. The Minority report exaggerates several details, while omitting or downplaying mitigating facts. … Glossing over such facts just because they are damning to a narrative does not mean they do not exist. Despite this, the Minority report seeks to use this report as justification for a compulsory audit of the NRA, in order to conduct yet another fishing expedition for wrongdoing.”

Why the morbid fear of an audit? Is that where we are now? What happened to trust but verify? The exorbitant salaries of the leaders alone make an audit necessary.

The NRA has non-profit status which requires that they "operate primarily to further the common good and general welfare of the people of the community (such as by bringing about civic betterment and social improvements.)" .

…The majority of the NRA’s lobbying, education, training and publication activities operate to benefit a private interest: the firearms and ammunition industry. As a result, under the cases and rulings interpreting section 501(c)(4), the NRA does not primarily serve the community interest and should not qualify as a tax-exempt social welfare organization.

Instead, the NRA should operate as a political lobbying organization to be accountable for its key interests: the firearms and ammunition industry.

The TDS crowd HATES the NRA with a passion and most gun control schemes are designed to harass gun owners and the NRA because you all blame the NRA with helping electing Trump. That fact is that the NRA are deathly afraid of what an audit will show. I blame them for their weakness in dealing with Putin's spies and taking Russian money that they gave to Trump. The scum you guys idolize is boggling. Why do you hate America?
