Guns endanger more than they protect - CNN

The "self-defense" and Stand Your Ground arguments are being used more and more by people who are not in any real danger. It is used by gun owners that are out of control and end up shooting people for essentially no reason. Gun owners are quick to dismiss these guys are not law-abiding... but they were up to the point that they started shooting at unarmed people... so there goes that argument. Kids killed in accidental shootings are bad gun owners... except that they were great gun owners until that one moment... so there goes that argument.

The Stand Your Ground or Self-Defense arguments are really veiled green lights for Gun owners to just start shooting anybody that they want... even here, in these debate, I have had a couple of Tough Guy Wannabes challenge me to come and try to take their guns! Why? So these Wannabes can ****ing murder me! It is insane. Anybody wanting to own a gun should have to go through a Psychological Assessment and check-backs every five-years.

How does a society that wants to be peaceful control these animals?

People should have to go thru a Psychological Assessment and check-backs every five-years to be able to vote.

Yeah, those damn Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto! Those murderous animals actually were shooting German Nazi SS.

Something has to be done about animals like the 18*-year-*old mother who saved the life of herself and her baby in Blanchard, Oklahoma. There, a knife-wielding intruder was attempting to enter Sarah McKinley's mobile home shortly after her husband died of lung cancer in 2012. After breaking in, McKinley fired, killing one suspect and scaring the other intruder off.

Why isn't that woman in prison for life for murder!!! She had NO right to shoot anyone. Ethics requires that everyone allow themselves to be robbed, assaulted, raped, kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Only animals don't allow themselves to be killed without putting up a defense.

For starters, all armed private security personnel for rich people and politicians should be eliminated to show the general public this really is the law of the land. This, along with outlawing fences, walls, door locks and window locks - and mandating being a vegan - would go a long way into bring people into an enlightened Buddhist future in which humans are submissive to all other humans and all animals, harming nothing.

As long as you make those psychological checks mandatory for voting too

Ok, can you give some specific examples where you think a successful stand your ground or castle law defense was unjustified?
According to the FBI, in 2017 there were 105 cases of justifiable homicide by civilians: 66 in response to an attack by a criminal, 32 while a criminal was committing a crime, and 7 undetermined.

Please don’t insert your biases or guesses, stick with actual events.
I am most certainly aware of people claiming self-defense when it clearly was not, but I am not aware of any who were successful in their defense.

You gotta be scraping the bottom of the barrel when you turn to an almost 7 year old article to troll people with.

That was World War II... a world war. A world at war is kinda different.

How do you know that she saved her life and that of her baby... maybe those guys wanted to make a sandwich like the guy just recently shot.

You are silly...

People should have to go thru a Psychological Assessment and check-backs every five-years to be able to vote.

That is a bit excessive... but a basic knowledge test would be a great idea.

It does not need to be a successful defense to be employed...

What about casting a vote leads to the purposeful killing of a human being?

Animals like these?

By definition, yes, it does. You can’t say it was a case of stand your ground if a jury ruled it wasn’t

It can be... the point is not the legality of it the point is the mindset of the person who believes it is reasonable.

What about owning a firearm leads to the purposeful killing of a human being?

If you don't understand the difference between the purpose of a vote and the purpose of a weapon then I am not sure what to say in order to help you... I can see that you think that what you said makes a point... but it doesn't.

It can be... the point is not the legality of it the point is the mindset of the person who believes it is reasonable.

Are you suggesting there should not be legal protections for someone protecting themselves, family, and property from criminals looking to do harm?

No. I am saying that there are far to many people out there shooting people based off of an arrogant attitude that they can shoot people that do not deserve to be shot. It is on this site too... guy shoots a guy that broke in and made a sandwich... some here are like, "lucky it wasn't my house cause he would be dead," and "should have shot center mass"... just arrogant disgusting attitudes by precisely the people that should not be owning guns... but do.

Nope. If the person would be found guilty of murder regardless of stand your ground or Carl's defense, then whether or not there is such a law is entirely irrelevant. You can't use examples that don't fall under the law to complain about the law.

I agree noone should be shot for breaking in and making a sandwich. Only because no-one should be breaking into someone else's home. It's disgusting to not support a homeowner protecting themselves from a potentially violent intruder who was given a chance to leave and chose not to.

I agree that shooting someone over such thing as a dog barking is uncalled for ans luckily we have a legal system to charge people who do so.

I am not complaining about the law... I am complaining about gun owners shooting people.

Actually... yep... because it has nothing to do with guilt or innocence because there is a dead person laying there.

Your post is full of bull. You should do some research on what Stand your Ground means.. and why it was put into law. And then come back to the group.

HINT.. stand your ground is not a "veiled green light for gun owners to start shooting anybody they want".

Sure it is... just because it is not in the legal text does not mean that it is not so...

Just to point out.. Stand your Ground laws have nothing to do with "people shooting people that do not deserve to be shot".

If people shoot people that don't deserve to be shot.. they get arrested..get a trial.. and if found guilty.. go to jail.
