[W:424]Parkland Students' Gun Control Proposal Is Beyond Radical

March for Our Lives, the gun control group started by Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students following the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday released their comprehensive gun control plan, know as the "Peace Plan."

"We don’t have to live like this: in fear for our lives and our families. The federal government has failed in its responsibility to protect the safety and well-being of the public with regard to the nation’s gun violence epidemic. The time for comprehensive and sweeping reform is now," the group said on the plan website. "We need ambitious leadership throughout the whole of government to stand in opposition to the gun lobby and industry in order to secure a peaceful America for generations to come."

I find your rhetoric about "children" to be very strange. And insulting to the Parkland students who were nearly or young adults when the shooting occurred. Weird that you seem to inantilize them.

I agree, I was responding to someone who used the term children. Sorry, I support these young adults for their fighting for what they believe as they were impacted by gun violence.

Because your guns are more precious than their lives. /s

Because my life and that of my family is more precious than theirs?

Do you believe that their lives are more valuable than ours?

- a national licensing and registry system. Specifically, gun owners would have to go through in-person interviews with law enforcement, provide personal references, obtain firearm safety training and wait 10 days for each firearm purchase. Licenses would expire every year and requirements would have to be fulfilled again.

The good news is that anyone who puts in the work to qualify as a gun owner for four years in a row will automatically qualify for the Secret Service.

Do you actually think saying that people care more about their guns than humans is not an emotional argument?

I wasn't wrong.

Thats what you right wingers call everything. The only radicals is the right

Parkland school shooting survivors propose comprehensive plan for gun control - CBS News

Among the proposals, the students call for legislative action in Washington to create a national licensing and registry system; a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; policies like a "red flag" law to disarm gun owners who pose a risk to themselves or others; and a national gun buy-back program.

What is radical about that? We have to register cars, get licenses to drive, so why the heck not with deadly weapons. There was previous assault weapons ban under Clinton and mass shootings decreased. Crazy people should not have guns. Gun buy back program is voluntary, and has already been done in many city. Sounds like nothing radical

But of course when you read a garbage right wing blog that posts opinions instead of facts, that's what you are going to get

Seriously, other than call it stupid or radical, notice all these right wingers void of any intelligent argument as to why they are stupid.

You should read the entire list.

The driving thing is often brought up and easily dismissed.

There is no Amendment to the Constitution in regards to driving of vehicles.

How dare they have an opinion!

What crossed your mind as you were typing out this response to my quote?

It doesn't even remotely address anything I said.

It's not wrong to value liberty above life in the right balance. Every reasonable person has some threshold of social risk they're willing to accept.

"Selfies" kill several people every year (people being inattentive), as do ballpoint pens (choking), toxic household chemicals (accidental poisoning), and even vending machines (people toppling them and being crushed). I doubt anyone here would support a ban on any of these things, and rightly so.

Some of the biggest killers in North America, such as cancer and heart disease, could be significantly reduced if we banned various popular foods, plastics, confections, etc. Yet it's only the radical fringes who support such bans.

We have to remember in defending "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" that these goals aren't always compatible; we can't value any one of them to the complete exclusion of the others. Hence, while "Your guns are more precious than their lives." is, in a sense, a fair criticism, it isn't a valid prima facie argument for gun control. To make the case for gun control, one has to successfully argue that the cost of firearms (in terms of shortening of lives) times the number of people who incur these costs exceeds the benefits of the firearms (in terms of happiness and enrichment of owners' lives) times the number of people who incur these benefits.

I have to shake my head when anyone says the ideal balance is "obvious". As though the many thousands of gun-related deaths or the treasured liberties of tens of millions of law-abiding gun owners could be casually discarded to reach an "obvious" conclusion.

It will never fly. The Second Article of the US Constitution prohibits such stuff from coming to be in the USA.

Mao Zedong? Ohyeah, there's relevance smeared all over this post.
Jesus. What's wrong with you guys? Are there still commies and reds and fellow-travellers hiding under American conservative beds?
What year is this?
This is 2019 the year that the Left is making no bones about guns and wanting to grab them by any means possible.

Because they have been directly impacted by gun violence. Children should be heard as Well as seen. They deserve respect for their opinion on guns.
Children being the keyword. Respect for someone being lead around by the nose while touting some politicians opinion?

Most Americans are terrified to die. Rather strange that they think they're going to a place with unbelievable beauty, Mansions, Golden roads and handsome angels but are still terrified to walk down the street without something to keep them from dying...so they can enter the Kingdom of golden roads, Mansions..etc...
THAT'S what guns are all about. I suspect even the most devout God-worshiping people know it's all a con-game to keep the masses in check. They're frozen with fear for all their blustering.

How is that forced against your will? Do they bring you in and force you to sign something??? Lol
OK how about automatically being registered to own a firearm. Bet that wouldn't work for you would it , you'd yell forced.

I have never agreed that 18 to 20 year olds should - or even may - be outlawed from having a firearm. In my opinion, it is just a pro-rape law.

Otherwise, if an adult under 21 are too stupid, too immature or too emotionally unstable to own a handgun, they certainly are too immature or emotionally unstable to own a handgun, they definitely are too stupid, emotionally immature or emotionally unstable to vote.

This also is my opinion on alcohol. A person with a gun or a can of beer can not destroy the country. A voter can.

Same for open borders and socialism. The is the year the traditional Democratic Party died and was replaced with being the International Corporate Fascist Party.

Every Christian should vote straight Republican for every office in every election even just for seeing this message. There are probably thousands of messages like your's by Progressives and Democrats who seek any excuse - no matter how irrelevant to the topic - to attack Christians like you just did.

Yes, it does astonish me how many people are so afraid of guns they are terrified that if they have one for self defense they are incapable of preventing themselves from committing suicide or from murdering people. Thus, they conclude it is their duty to allow anyone to rob, beat, rape, stab and/or murder their family, everyone around them and themselves.

So tell us, why are you so terrified of the thought of having a firearm? What evil or self destruction thing are you afraid you would do with it?

Yes, like virtually all progressives, they demand abolishing the right to remain silent and demand a person is required to answer any and all questions the police may ask, including pledging their unquestioning loyalty to a police state.

Those kids really are a bunch of really stupid cowards. It's sad to see young people demanding to be forced to be sheep lead to slavery and the slaughter.

March for Our Lives has been set up as a 501 c4 operation, so it is not required to divulge it's donors.

However, it's rather obvious who controls it.
