Scandal-ridden NRA head Wayne LaPierre digs in against gun control after mass shootings and Trump support for background checks - CBS News

LaPierre's seven-figure salary, penchant for luxury clothing shopping sprees and reports that he sought to have the NRA buy him a $6 million mansion at an exclusive golf community have drawn considerable scrutiny amid allegations of rampant misspending.

"Anything that gets said by Wayne LaPierre is going to be followed by 'amidst turmoil over $300,000 in suits and a $6 million mansion they were going to buy him,' and all these other allegations that are out there.

NRA Chief Wayne LaPierre Questioned on Travel Expenses - WSJ

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre charged the organization’s ad agency more than $240,000 for expenses related to trips he took to Italy, Hungary, the Bahamas and other locales without providing adequate documentation, according to a letter from the ad agency given to the group’s board last week and described by people familiar with the matter.

Some of Mr. LaPierre’s expenses were charged to one of the ad firm’s credit cards, the people said, and overall costs included a 2014 stay at the Four Seasons hotel in Budapest and expenses related to trips to Palm Beach, Fla., and Reno, Nev. The ad firm, Ackerman McQueen Inc., was reimbursed over time by the gun-rights group, these people said.

NRA Spent Tens of Thousands on Hair and Makeup for CEO Wayne LaPierre’s Wife, Susan

The NRA spent tens of thousands of dollars bringing hair and makeup artists around the country for the wife of its CEO, two sources told The Daily Beast. The expenses–which included plane flights and luxury hotel stays for the stylists–are bound to fuel an already-raging debate over what some see as a spendthrift culture in the NRA’s upper echelons. The NRA, meanwhile, called it a “non-story,” and said their ex-ad firm was responsible for any such expenses.

Actually, NRA members paid for all of the expenses of the LaPierres and the board members.

At least that swamp dweller is being supported by private funds, but it is nice to let folks know that non-profit does not mean frugal and not without more than adequate perks for those at the top of of such organizations. There are many non-profit organizations that pay their leader(s) more than the POTUS gets and supply them with many other perks as well.

It seems that those involved in non-profit medical care organizations do quite well:

Here's a prominent example:

Humane Society CEO: The $4 Million Man - HumaneWatch

Since 1994, Wayne Pacelle has raked in nearly $4 million as an animal-rights activist. In fact, according to HSUS’s most recent tax forms, Wayne Pacelle received $356,305 in compensation from HSUS in 2013—a salary that puts him in the top 1% in more than half of the states in the country. So his nickname of Wayne “1%” Pacelle refers to two meanings: His income ranking, and also the amount of HSUS’s budget that is given to pet shelters.

These guys live vicariously through Wayne, they don't mind.

I'll be sending the NRA a big donation come next year for the election cycle. They are doing great work. Without them we would have no gun rights at all. Considering how much the anti-gun people hate the NRA, they must be doing a good job.

That's great! Wayne needs a bigger closet. All those Zegna suits need a good home.

I'm glad to help. He also works tirelessly for my gun rights. We need more like him.

Obviously the NRA has stymied the gun ban crowd over and over. You can see that they are at a fever pitch right now
to try what ever they can to damage the NRA! The NRA has an elected broad to sort out any issues if needed. They
have elections every 3 years. Currently they are getting ready for the 2020 election. NRA members as a group are very active
in politics. They vote every election, donate money or work for candidates who respect the 2nd amendment.
They will support pro-2nd amendments candidates and oppose the gun grabbers.

All that's okay by me. Money spent on Wayne's fur lined existence isn't going to work against politicians I like and for politicians I don't. The NRA can by him all the mansions he wants as far as I'm concerned.

1.Many CEOs of non profits make a **** load of money. Do you care how much their CEOs make or is just the CEO of a group who promotes and defends rights you oppose?

2.As long as the NRA prevents anti-2nd amendment trash from trying to ban 10 to 30 round standard capacity magazines and semiautomatic firearms I don't care how much those on top of the NRA or any other 2nd amendment rights group makes.

Well, they'd better get their act together quickly. Even trump is attacking them.

WTF Is Up With the NRA? Guide to Scandals, Lawsuits, Infighting – Rolling Stone

Things have gotten so bad that even “chaos president” Donald Trump tweeted at the gun lobby to “get its act together quickly, stop the internal fighting, & get back to GREATNESS – FAST!”

Below, we tease out this hot mess at the NRA:

THE COMBATANTS
The NRA

The gun lobby spent $30 million in the 2016 election to boost Trump — more than twice what it spent on Mitt Romney in 2012. The go-for-broke investment paid off in a president who praises gun rights at every turn and appointed two arch-conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

But these victories have come at a deep cost for the NRA. It has lost the boogeyman of a Democratic president, and the cashflow that’s boosted by convincing gun owners that their rights are under siege. The NRA remains under Senate scrutiny for its associations with Russia in the runup to 2016. And the gun group is finally paying a price for evangelizing assault weapons, as the moral authority of the Parkland teens, and a nation repulsed by active-shooter drills at their kids’ schools, has elevated the anti-gun-violence movement into a political counterweight.

The NRA has been hemorrhaging money — losing more than $45 million in 2016 and another $17 million in 2017 — leading the organization to cut back on everything from office coffee to electioneering: The NRA was outspent by gun-control groups in the 2018 midterm elections.

The NRA is so corrupt now we can only hope it folds soon

I hope you realize that the NRA isn't the only pro-2nd amendment rights organization out there. If the NRA folds then the GOA,or some other pro-2nd amendment right's group will take it's place.

Fine. Let the NRA fold like a cheap suit

LaPierre and his wife go on 2 week all expense paid vacations flown on private jets while folks back at his office have to pay for their own coffee, now. Not a good sign!

It should be over soon

I'll wait until there is a source that isn't so vehemently anti-2nd amendment before I start believing the NRA is going down.

Well, if you want Faux News to start criticizing the NRA you're going to be waiting a looooonnnnng time... meanwhile, there's the NRA/Russia connection:

Kremlin Blessed Russia’s NRA Operation, U.S. Intel Report Says

The Kremlin has long denied that it had anything to do with the infiltration of the National Rifle Association and the broader American conservative movement. A U.S. intelligence report reviewed by The Daily Beast tells a different story.

Alexander Torshin, the Russian central bank official who spent years aggressively courting NRA leaders, briefed the Kremlin on his efforts and recommended they participate, according to the report. Its existence and contents have not previously been reported.
