The idea that this is a states right issues is ridiculous. If you live in New York, for example, you have five bordering states with different gun laws. A person can just cross state laws and buy guns with less strict rules.

The fact is not all states require a background check to purchase a firearm. This is absolutely a disgrace. A damn background check! We are not talking about an FBI investigation or you to lists all your roommates that past 10 years.

And please, let's put an end to a couple of myths:

1. More guns make us safer.

Complete hogwash. Weak laws + so many firearms easily available is a recipe for gun violence. The number of civilian-owned guns is at historic highs in the United States. Far more than any other country in the world.

2. This is a mental health issue/video games/hate crime/White supremacy issue

EVERY country has people suffering from mental health. Every country has extremists. Every country has violence.

This problem requires legislation and enforcement. Gun supporters need to stop with the lies.

Deal with the 2nd Amendment first...then we can talk.

The Second Amendment prohibits Congress from passing Laws which infringe on the people's right to keep and bear arms.

OK, let's require every state to allow it's residents to take a voluntary NICS BGC when the get their valid, state issued, photo IDs issued/renewed. Anyone who passes that NICS BGC gets their ID stamped "GUN OK". After that process is in place (say one year from now) every person not having a valid, state issued, photo ID and possessing a gun can be shot on the spot by police. Just kidding about that last part, but now that I have your attention, it would allow "prohibited persons" to be arrested and convicted of a "gun crime" long before they committed any act of violence with a gun.

Banning guns would definitely lead to fewer gun deaths. It wouldn't eliminate them, but there would be fewer of them.
Banning alcohol would lead to fewer alcohol related deaths. It wouldn't eliminate them, but there would be fewer of them.

The second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms.
No amendment guarantees the right to imbibe alcohol.

Very few people absolutely need to own and fire a gun.
No one needs to imbibe alcohol.

There are orders of magnitude more alcohol-related deaths in America than there are gun-related deaths, even counting accidents and suicides.

If your goal is to save lives, do you advocate for first banning all drinkable alcohol in the U.S., and then banning all firearms? If not, why not?

1. Pass a law requiring gun owners to lock up their guns. 80% of school shootings were by kids who stole a relative's gun.

2. Teach coping skills to pre-high school aged kids. All these shooters have some kind of traumatic child hood event, usually bullying.

3. Restrict magazine size to 20 rounds. Shooters tend to use 30 round clips up to 100 round drums.

4. Make it where friends, relatives, coworkers can't get into trouble if they report a shooter to authorities. Everyone close to these shooters suspected something bad was going to happen.

5. Remove HIPPA restrictions when it comes to background checks. If you're nutts, it's not protected information when it comes to background checks.

6. Gun restraining orders. If your friends, families, coworkers think you're a threat, and they can convince a judge, a restraining order is issued and you can't be within a 100 yards of a gun.

Its beyond goofy that people will look at every law on the books...and see those alws are being followed to the letter and violence is still occuring...to then claim...what we REALLY need is MORE laws.

-Background checks...damn near every mass shooting that has occured in this country involved firearms purchased LEGALLY using background checks. So you have to be a special kind of stupid to think that MORE background checks would make a difference.
-Registration..California and Connecticut are two prime examples of states requiring registration. And yet that hasnt stopped mass shootings there. Why? Because what kind of idiot believes that registering a gun will prevent someone from using it improperly?
-AR Bans...Aside from the Unconstitutional nature of AR bans, it is lost on gun banners that the properties they hope to ban are merely cosmetic and have nothing to do with the operation of a weapon AND the fact remains that the majority of mass shootings and virtually ALL the day to day gun violence involves weapons OTHER THAN ARs.
-Mag Cap bans are ridiculous. The Parkland shooter used 10 round mags. The Columbine shooters used weapons that had a 9 round capacity, double barrel shotguns, etc. Where they are allowed to go unchecked...reloading is immaterial.

There are literally no laws that will prevent gun violence. What we have seen across the globe is that violence of all types is not perpetrated by the means...but by the perpetrator. And no one wants to deal with the causes.

Even the president just said he wants "meaningful" background checks and wants to prevent sick people from getting guns.

So you must think the president is stupid, correct?

You get one thing wrong, there is near universal traumatic event in the childhoods of these shooters, and it’s not bullying, it’s single motherhood

We need fathers back in the homes, but of course the liberals that brought us contraception and no fault divorce and tell women to put their kids in daycare to go to a job they hate don’t want to talk about this.

Show me one time where I have said something complimentary about the Presidents character. Trump is no different than many leftist gun owners. They will say and do anything in an attempt to appease the other side. They are the same ****ing morons that will look at people like Feinstein proposing bans on literally hundreds of weapons and then say Yeah...but they arent banning ALL guns so they arent banning guns.

And why cant you just deal with the substance of the comment instead of run and hide behind Trump? Or maybe YOU can answer how it is possible that guns that were bought and purchased following the laws...even federal laws...STILL somehow manage to be used in violent crimes? And KNOWING that is happening, then maybe you could answer how you think it makes ANY sense to impose MORE laws...FEDERAL laws...that are ALREADY PROVEN to not stop violent crimes.

You love the bold caps Vance. You compensating for something?

Deal with the 2nd Amendment first...then we can talk.

We had good legislation in 1994. Remember the assault weapons ban. How did that get enacted despite the second amendment?

Ah...good...ignore the facts and how stupid your arguments are and think about my dick. Brilliant strategy there, Bucky. Lets see how that works out for you.

You might be right. I don't know how many of these shooters had their fathers in the home. I'm interested in finding out.

Question for you. We have laws against murdering someone. You seem to be saying the current laws are ineffective. So how will adding more laws stop someone from carrying out an act of murder?

Has the passing of "hate crime" laws reduced the amount of assaults?

Maybe we should concentrate on enforcing current laws.

You cant have lax gun laws and low gun deaths

What part of concentrate on enforcing current laws confused you?

Noted: You did not answer the questions asked.

Current laws are ineffective so we need better laws that are more effective.

Name the large city or country with lax gun laws and low gun deaths thru great enforcement.

It cant be done

They would reduce gun deaths. Just look at any place with low gun deaths and see how they do it

Places like Chicago? You say they would reduce gun deaths. I say they would not. Has "hate crime" laws reduced the number of people assaulted?

Bottom line, laws do not protect people as much as you want to believe. People acting responsibly makes for a safer community.

Have a good day.
