Gun talk thread for gun enthusiasts

Sure .308 is enough for raccoons? Maybe you should bump up to a .338 Lapua to be on the safe side. Some of those raccoons are vicious! I find reloaders interesting. Do you do it for $$ savings? Or as a hobby?

Yeah my wife calls racoons rat bandits, they ain't all cute and cuddly. The point about using my 308 is flexibility- the racoon was 250+- yards away raiding the deer feeder.
Coyotes, deer, feral hogs- all get the same caliber. One rifle, one load, one dead critter.... some like having a golf bag of firearms, I believe in KISS.

Reloading is two fold, use the powder load I feel comfortable with, the bullet I like shooting and less than half the price. When I was competing I'd use 200 rounds per practice session and a min of 100 for the single stage comp.

Big savings and the round I feel most confident using.... :peace

Thinking about getting into long-range shooting. Did a little research and I might be getting a Remington 700 sps tactical that fire 6.5 creedmore rounds. The research says the creedmore drops a good bit less than 308. From what I have read I will need to get a new stock but the rifle itself is rated very well up to 1000 yards. I have always wanted to get into some friendly competition long-range shooting.

The 6mm's are the way to go 6 dasher or 6br ackley improved. 5 shots 1 inch group at 1000 yrds.

Ever really looked at a 1000 yrd range? Absolutely remarkable what they are doing these days.

Benchrest Shooter Posts Stunning 1.068” Group at 1000 Yards – New World Record!

Wilson used a custom benchrest rifle chambered in a custom version of the 6mmBR Ackley Improved he calls the 6mmBRAW (6mmBR Ackley Wilson). Wilson said he started shooting 30-caliber loads, but soon gravitated towards the lighter 6mm cartridges.

I kind of got stuck on the idea of the 6.5, and the Remington. I also had to buy a rifle that was low on cost, although the ammo is a bit expensive. I ordered my rifle it should be in in a week or two, Now I just need to find some low cost ammo and get a decent scope. And I have to find a decent shooting range that is not too far away.

Low cost ammo?

Really no factory ammo will bring out the best in that rifle. Carefully crafted reloads and a though load development work up will

Cheap glass won't help either. Shop for a used quality scope. With a little patience and some hard shopping you can buy quality for a reasonable price

Yeah been looking up quality low cost scopes found a few for around $150-$190 there was a nice Vortex at the FFl I was at for $300 kind of thinking about picking that one up.

Going to hit a class on the reloading as that seems the best way to go for ammo. get around 100 rounds to start then keep reloading the brass to find a load that works well for the rifle. I read it can bring the cost to about a third of factory rounds.

Thanks for the links will check those out.
