Are universal background checks inevitable?

In light of recent events and national polls is there any chance we will be able to avoid the knee jerk reaction of politicians to attack gun is owners rights, on both sides???

Anti-2nd amendment trash politicians letting tragedy go to waste? Never. They will use these tragedies to try to ban semiautomatic firearms under the guise of an assault weapons ban and propose bans on 10 to 30 round standard capacity magazines under the guise of a high capacity magazine ban. They will even propose **** that wouldn't have stopped the last several mass shooters like universal background checks(as far as I am aware the past couple of mass shooters did pass a background check). States like California ,NewYork, Illinois or some other state that ****s on the 2nd amendment then universal background checks will happen if they haven't happened yet. At the federal level then most likely not because elected officials tend to like keeping their jobs.

The CA shooter passed the background check. He bought his gun legally from an FFL.

I can see the others making political issues out of every single instance of gun violence 'cept inner city Chicago.

The democrats are not going to raise the issue of black on black crime in democrat run cities. They bs the black voter, tell them that they will help their cities get better and make their lives better, but No, they do not. Get their vote and then forget them.

The police stated that so many people had guns in that “gun free zone” that they didn’t know who was the good guy and who was the bad.
Please link to the police report you read.

How is he doing?

Doing better, thanks for asking. They put him on medication to make him start eating again. All he has to do now is stick with the PT and basically learn how to walk again. He’s getting there, though. Out of the hospital finally, and in a nice rehab facility.

Where did you see that I said anything about reading a police report? Where did you see that I saw a police report at all? Reread post 30. Can’t make it much more clear than that, and not going to try.

Despite the constant clamor for "universal background checks, the fact is few, or more likely NONE, of the recent shootings were the result of the shooter not passing a background check. The Gilroy shooter went to Nevada, which requires a background checks.

Never underestimate the power of an angry little southern gal. ;)
I don't think I'll ever forget her hair in that towel and her tits just flopping in the wind, as she smashed the hood of that car.

I had a guy come into my collision Dept once for an estimate. His girlfriend found out he cheated on her. She took a screwdriver and covered basically every painted inch of his car with different variations of the word “cheater.” It was hilarious. I always wished I’d gotten a picture of it. He ended up having to get an all-over paint job, and some body work was required. Some of those scratches were deeeeep.

Good to hear.

I know a woman in Georgia that's a great physical therapist. She's known to make guys walk within 24 hours - it's amazing! He'll make an incredible recovery.

We men love our cars, so that hurt. But, he owed her one.

I remember reading about a guy that found out his wife was cheating on him, so he found a way to record her getting banged by her other guy, and then he showed the film to her parents at the next family get together.

Oh my bad. Sorry. Could you link to the police statement then?

Yeah because all those people with guns in the Walmart yesterday really helped. Is that the argument? Arm everybody and then nobody will do anything wrong because they will be afraid to? Well that worked out like gang busters, didn’t it? It’s Texas. EVERYBODY is armed in Texas, yet no one stepped up.

Shocker, that.

how many were there?

Anyone running around saying there aren't many people carrying guns in El Paso is an idiot.
And, they haven't ever been to El Paso, and you can take that to the bank, because El Paso folks have tonz o'gunz just like everywhere else in Texas.

Even in Austin, the so called liberal capital of Texas, gun owners who carry are plentiful.
You can't turn around without bumping into someone who is armed.

I don't know where to put it but I think a thread showing pictures of revenge on cheaters or stories about it would be very entertaining.

I'm relatively sure that Walmarts nationwide have a no weapons policy.

Wisconsin is both and open carry and CC state and all our Walmarts have no weapons signs on the doors...

What part of “concealed weapon” is confusing to people? If the sign says “no firearms” you ignore it because they cant see your pistol because it’s concealed. Its not the courthouse. If they spot it, all they can do is ask you to leave. You say, “oh, sorry. I didn’t notice the sign”. P

I never paid any attention to the Walmart gun policy, I just carried anyway.
Nobody ever knew I was carrying and nobody needed to know.
Same here. I'm not concerned about business policies, I'm therefore whatever I'm there for. The only reason I conceal is to ignore business postings.

The only laundromat within 60 miles of me is a posted business. The bank I have to enter (no drive-through) in order to pay my rent is a posted business. The mechanic I use, best in the area imo, is a posted business. I carry in them all.

and if you are forced to use it-chances are the alternative of not having it is far worse than pissing off anti gun store managers.

I've only been 'made' once, the owner asked me to put it in my car. I apologized, put the gun he saw in my car's lock-box and went back inside with a now-empty holster, saying nothing about the snubi in my ankle holster he didn't notice.

Sometimes its ignorant. A bar and grill I really like-after Ohio changed its laws (though I don't drink I often would sit at a bar to eat)posted. So one day the owner saw me at a shopping mall and asked me why she hadn't seen me and my wife. I said my wife always carries and she doesn't want to violate your sign. And I explained if someone wanted to use a gun illegally, that sign only guarantees there is less chance anyone could fight back.

She took the sign down the next day. we eat there constantly now.
