N.R.A. Shuts Down Production of NRATV

By Danny Hakim

June 25, 2019

The National Rifle Association has shut down production at NRATV.

The N.R.A. on Tuesday also severed all business with its estranged advertising firm, Ackerman McQueen, which operates NRATV, the N.R.A.’s live broadcasting media arm, according to interviews and documents reviewed by The New York Times.

While NRATV may continue to air past content, its live broadcasting will end and its on-air personalities — Ackerman employees who included Dana Loesch — will no longer be the public faces of the N.R.A. It remained unclear whether the N.R.A. might try to hire some of those employees, but there was no indication it was negotiating to do so.

The move comes amid a flurry of lawsuits between the N.R.A. and Ackerman, and increasing acrimony that surfaced after two prominent N.R.A. board members first criticized NRATV in an article in The Times in March. The separation had become inevitable: The two sides said last month that they were ending their three-decade-plus partnership.

“Many members expressed concern about the messaging on NRATV becoming too far removed from our core mission: defending the Second Amendment,” Wayne LaPierre, the N.R.A.’s longtime chief executive, wrote in a message to members that was expected to be sent out by Wednesday. “So, after careful consideration, I am announcing that starting today, we are undergoing a significant change in our communications strategy. We are no longer airing ‘live TV’ programming.”

Thoughts and prayers.

Old Wayne wants to keep the money for hinself

Thoughts and prayers.

I know, the days of spreading their BS and misusing funds must be coming to an end.

Poor Wayne, he will have to stick to $300 a night hotels and $200 dinners.

Such a corrupt bunch of ammosexuals.

Still mad that the NRA helped elect Trump? "ammosexuals"--and I was criticized for using the term "bannerrhoid" to depict anti gun politicians. Its funny that NRA haters think that people who like the shooting sports have some sort of a sexual fetish with firearms. It demonstrates how completely bankrupt and dishonest the anti gun movement is.

Nice org that you belong to. Are they destroying furniture for firewood? Glad to see your money give Wayne a luxurious life?

Ah, bannerrhoid....your old friend, you use it as if it is still mildly amusing. I'm not trying to take your gun away, but I'm sure not a fan of your little NRA scam org.

The only reason why people like you try to bash the NRA is because you are upset with the political power the NRA has, and the politicians it helps elect. So, let us drop the charade.

If one of those star wars bar scene characters manage to beat Trump, NRA membership will be over 15 million by this time in two years.

You're the one who seems agitated about the NRA-not me. I guess the proper response is don't go over baked.

It’s more about the Foreign money laundered through the NRA to illegally elect Far Right criminals.

Is that how you view women, people of color and a gay man?

Good. The NRA has gotten more and more radicalized and is need of new management.

It’s more about the Foreign money laundered through the NRA to illegally elect Far Right criminals.

Credible proof required. And the gun rights opponents have been whining about the NRA long before this faux-scandal was cooked up.

With $30M of Russian money...

So you were a big supporter of the NRA before that allegedly happened? Did you vote for Clinton? do you know how much foreign money was filtered through the corrupt clinton Foundation?

Seems to me like NYT buried the lede -- the more important development, I'd say, is that the NRA fired Ackerman, a key partner of the NRA going back decades. They developed major campaigns, they pushed its public profile to the right, they were a backdoor channel to pay NRA staff (such as Ollie North when he was President)....

NRATV only had 50k followers. It got a lot of attention, but I don't think it was really that influential.

Yep, the NRA is a total ****-show right now. I expect it will survive, but its influence and profile will be dramatically curtailed, at a time when organizations like Everytown and Giffords are gaining influence.

Depends on which one of the gun haters gets the nomination. The more hateful they are of gun rights- the better the NRA will do. The best thing that could happen to the freak show stable of Democrat party contenders, is a definitive Supreme Court ruling slapping down the anti gun state schemes of the Dems. Just as Heller helped Obama, a USSC ruling blowing away state gun bans would help the dems in 2020

Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

I also hear that Dana Loesch has been canned. Such a loss.

The NRA will be lucky to maintain its charter after all the court cases are through.

That is a myth that is losing traction. If the NRA helped tRump win then they failed both McCain and Romney...

The NRA is losing it's political power, ie the ability to 'lobby' congress critters, and soon will be a back bencher in American politics (to borrow a British term)

The more strident the NRA's tone the less 'Middle America' it appears. The more the real finances of the organization are brought to light the more Americans are given pause. No longer the Norman Rockwell painting, but a shrieking old white guy howling that the jack booted thugs are just one vote away from dragging you all to a FEMA concentration camp...

So, let's drop the charade... :peace

The strident NRA rolled over on the bump stock BS. I am a life member-I was a candidate for the 80 and 88 shooting teams and bought the NRA membership for that. But I give money now to the SAF and CCKBA.

The gun hating lefties have been saying that for years. The more the bannerrhoids in the congress and state governments scream for stupid gun laws, the better the NRA does.
