    Ban on nunchucks ruled unconstitutional

New York ban on nunchucks ruled unconstitutional by federal court
NEW YORK (AP) — A 1974 New York state ban on nunchucks that was put into place over fears that youth inspired by martial arts movies would create widespread mayhem is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, a federal court has ruled.

The Second Amendment says "arms," and not "guns." It seems to me this decision has implications beyond the ownership of nunchucks. Your thoughts?

That reads right to me. Arms means any form of weapon that one can carry. Whether it is a gun, a sword, a truncheon or a spear, or some asiatic thresher like a nunchuck.
Its in the small things that the rot starts. Do the wrong thing once, its easier to do it again. Do the individualistic thing once, it is easy to do it again.

The irony is nunchaku were originally agricultural tools used to flail grain and people who were not allowed to have weapons taught themselves to use them and other tools to defend themselves.

Pretty much. There's a karate weapon called a sai that looks like it evolved from a one-handed pitchfork.

Laws regarding possession of knives vary around the country. In some states, people don't think anything about carrying a simple pocket knife. In a state like New York, that can land you in prison. So, yeah, we'll see more challenges under the 2nd Amendment to these laws. I also find it remarkable that the judge is 1) a woman; 2) a lesbian; 3) Asian; 4) an Obama appointee. In other words, she doesn't fit the typical profile of a jurist who would be sympathetic to someone invoking a 2nd Amendment argument.

Very true, ordnance requiring a squad or MG's aren't technically protected by the 2A under US Code 311.

That said, Nunchaku are pretty worthless for combat.

What implications? New York State, like California, is a fascist and oppressive State that wants to see all of its citizens disarmed. So this 6-month old ruling came as no surprise.

This was discussed a couple months ago when we started threads about this-the Oregon Supreme Court ruled-many years ago-that the Oregon second amendment provision, precluded bans against "switchblade knives". After Heller, an FBI SA I knew-when I was asking him against gun show knife dealers openly selling switchblades across state lines-noted that the stupid switchblade act would never survive a federal court challenge after Heller.

My thoughts??? Why would anyone want to ban nunchucks in the first place!?
