The Gun Forum Primer

lmao yeah, okay. it's not like they require citations that link to other sources or anything. it's all just made up **** that anyone can edit willy nilly, right?

the fact is, wiki often is wrong but when it comes to a .30 bullet that weighs 110 grains (which is accurate-I have a box of them here with me) being bigger than a 55 grain .223 bullet (again a magazine of them is sitting a foot from me), it is far more accurate than people who opine that AR 15s are "designed for military combat" and that 10+ round magazines "are for warfare only"

Stop right there.

I don't remeber discussing grain. I posted a chart that shows the difference in size between the two, so I suggest you consult that.

You confuse the size of a cartridge with the size of a bullet. And you are apparently ignorant of the fact that a fast light bullet might not transfer near as much terminal energy to a live target than a slower fatter bullet (that is far less likely to exit the target)

What exactly do you think “caliber” refers to? Hint:it’s not length or even width of the cartridge as a whole.

Let the kid dream.....he is unable to comprehend; in his mind a 5.56 slug is larger than a 30 cal. slug.

He wont admit to being wrong, so he has to go total trump on Wikipedia...."fake news". ;)

Oh, snap....didn't the Israeli civil guard and school teachers get the memo from jet??? They aint supposed to have those mythical M1 carbines.

"scouring the internets to try and something that I can use against that guy"....

Yeah, Israel, sure. I'm sure you can find a guerilla band in Machu Picchu using some of them too.

But, you don't use them here anymore, right?

Well that's one of the lamest goalpost moves I've ever seen.

Besides, I use mine here whenever I get the chance.

You seem to be determined to turn goal post movement into an Olympic event....and are well on the way to winning a gold.

You stated :
Nobody uses them anymore.

Pinqy stated:
Several are still in service with police or military reserve forces in a few countries

No one ever stated or implied they were still in use with the US Armed Forces...that was simply you moving the goal posts and trying to take the conversation down another rabbit hole in a very weak attempt to skirt the fact that you were proven wrong.

For someone that claims to be "smart on gun issues", you have shown an appalling lack of technical understanding about firearms and ammunition that even a layman such as myself can see.

You continue to double down on the assertion that a 5.56 round is larger than a 30 cal round; even going so far as to pretend that the picture of the cartridge is proof, and again trying to be disingenuous by stating:
I don't remeber discussing grain. I posted a chart that shows the difference in size between the two, so I suggest you consult that.

The difference in size between the two? The two what? cartridges? Because it certainly cannot be referring to the rounds themselves.....Pinqy specifically stated
"Which are larger than the rounds for the AR-15"
When you referred to the 30 cal as small caliber rounds.....then proceeded to post a picture depicting cartridge length to support your claim that the 5.56 round was larger than the 30 cal round.

It would have been much quicker to admit you made a mistake and simply move on; I have made more than my fair share, and can cop to it.

Any credibility you think you have regarding firearms has been shot to pieces by you alone.

Oh nonsense. It's more nit picking from people who don't have any arguments for the issue. This thread is about phony experts who think that splitting hairs about this "selector", this "grain" and that "velocity " is going to be successful against policies of smart gun regulation in light of increasing violence with guns on a large social scale. Or that these "experts" want everybody to think that whatever they say about the second amendment as an edict is something that only they understand. Thinking people who consider the entire picture don't give a wit about guns, but do have the votes are going to be the ones who decide the issue; we always do.

So it's no goal post move in any direction, you just have to keep up with the program.

Attempt to deflect from your statements and address the fallacies contained in them noted......you didnt just move the goal post, you launched it into orbit.

LOL, so much argument about the old WWII/Korea carbine? I would never have expected that. last time I was at the range, I got a nice, hot spent round from one down my shirt. Many soldiers carried them just because they weighed less. I don't know. I may have preferred an M1 Garand or maybe a Thompson. I'll think about it.

It is hilarious-a carbine that was issued to MILLIONS Of US servicemen and allied forces, in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and many smaller actions is NOT a weapon of war that needs to be banned, but a rifle that HAS never ever been issued to our military is? It is hilarious watching the constant-almost fully automatic-barrage of absolute nonsensical claims that he has unleashed this forum.

Notice-that he has YET to explain how calling something (inaccurately on top of that) a weapon of warfare, or designed for MILITARY COMBAT-has ANY relevance whatsoever for the current standards set forth by the USSC in determining what weapons are protected under the second amendment

The Garand had way better punch that the smaller .30 caliber carbine. 30-06 would go through walls, hit at 400 yards and also the Garand was very accurate. Close up though? The Thompson was best. Plus, ammo for the .45 sidearm was the same. Tough one.

OP, dont use Google and tell us what a primer and percussion cap is?

Are you asking me? Haha. Some WWII ammunition had corrosive primers. It is therefore necessary to clean the gun after each shooting session to preserve the rifling in the barrel. Modern ammo doesn't have that issue.
A percussion cap? That's pretty ancient history isn't it?

No, you said, "Nobody uses them anymore."

Changing that to "We don't use them anymore." is a goalpost move.

Well, OP said "primer".

Percussion caps are still in use....shhh, dont clue him in!

I bet you wish you never claimed to owning those particular couple weapons of war.

I made about ten trips to the Cali region of Columbia from about 1981 through about 1996-mostly for dove hunting and a couple times for skeet events. WE would often travel on a road known as the Pan-American Highway. At some times I was there, there was an issue with trucks being hijacked and to combat that ,the Columbian Military would set up check points the PAH to check the papers and licenses of semi-trucks. We passed through those check points dozens of times and in all cases, the men guarding the checkpoints were carrying MI carbines. One of the young men who assisted the hunting enterprise, later became a captain in what is the Columbian equivalent to our SF and he noted that MI carbines were widely distributed among both the civil police and the military. Now I haven't been back there in 23 years but I suspect those carbines are still being used down there.

They are still in widespread use in the South Korean reserve forces.....admittedly, I retired in 2008, but my last tour in Korea 2006, the reserve forces still subject to periodic call up qualified with the M1 Garand and M1 carbines.

Some of those carbines came back into the USA-Blue Sky Imports I believe-and they had Korean arsenal markings on them.

I'm sure eventually they will be replaced by the K2's.....they were completely fielded with the Active Korean Army when I retired, and were beginning to be placed in warstock for the reserves, but had not been issued as yet.
