4 yr Old shoots 6 yr Old Dead

Yea, yea your rights. Just send thoughts and prayers. I could care less what you are sick of.

Yeah don't let any tragedy go to waste. Use the blood of a child to try to blot out the rights of people whose politics you find disturbing. I am an agnostic, I don't spend too much time praying.

It would be anti-gunners who would oppose this. But the fact is there are hundreds of millions of guns out there - and pass all the laws they want to and there still will be hundreds of millions of guns in the USA - and every year thousands and thousands of kids will die because of stupid mistakes by parents - mistakes of all kinds. Not putting chemicals away locked up. Things that cut, crush, poison, ways to drown and fall. And carelessness with firearms. The list is long.

I think around the 9th to 10th grade, schools should teach even more about firearms. Ideally to fire firearms under supervision (though it would be reasonable to require parental permission to handle and fire a gun). The class would teach how a gun works - different types, about gun safety and about gun laws. I'd like to see target shooting be added to athletic programs, probably limited to .22s and possibly small gauge shotgun skeet shooting in high school. I'd like to see the local police involved at least in part in the class.

I do agree, though, that the dangers and mysteries of guns be dealt with at a much earlier age, also taught in schools.

Good point-gun deaths of children due to accidental shootings are decreasing, despite massive increases in gun buying over the last 25 years. My son started gun training and safety lessons at 4 or 5. By 11 he was attending fairly advanced training at one of the top academies in the USA-one that is nationally famous and is the national leader at dealing with "active shootings". Many gun banners don't want children getting such training for two rather disturbing reasons

1) children who have safety training with firearms are far less likely to create the issues that gun banners often use to complain about gun ownership.

2) children who have been taught about firearms, especially ones who have been taught to use them responsibly (in addition to basic gun safety) are far less receptive to the blatant lies that the anti gun movement tells about guns. I remember my then ten year old son, listening to one of the anti gun politicians ranting about AR-15s during the 08 campaign and noting that the politician was a lying twit.

Too bad you are not so concerned about the child's rights, as to life first and foremost. God forbid we mention a child was killed due to irresponsible gun ownership. Many gun owners love to spout its their God given right.

We have to find the facts. We don't know all of them yet. I have a gun in my car. No one else drives my car. When the car goes into service, the gun is taken out. The only two other people who have access to my keys have CCW permits. But they don't know the gun is there. They assume there is a gun in the car and act accordingly. But what if the husband left a gun in his car. He doesn't expect the wife to take his car but she does.

I realize lots of people-especially gun haters, want to punish people like this. They don't seem really keen on punishing armed criminals or criminals who lie on form 4473 or straw purchasers who lie on that form as well, but they want to throw the book at someone who has just lost a child.

If like most parents, she will punish herself mentally more than anything the government can do to her.

It would be haunting. Some years ago to back out of the driveway I had to do a sharp 90 degree blind turn down a narrow driveway. The house was just beside the passenger door. The driveway was raised so on the driver's side there was a curb and then it dropped down about 3 feet.

It seemed like every day while backing around, there would be a big old yellow steel Tonka dump truck with a missing wheel on the middle of the driveway. I'd have to stop, walk on the curb trying to fall off it, move it, and then struggle back into the car. Very annoying. Backing around super slow like I had to - running late - I heard bumping into that damn broken Tonka truck.

I thought I'll just run over the damn thing and that will be the end of it. But just before I hit the gas I thought what if it hangs up under the car? So got out to move it again.

It wasn't that old Tonka truck. It was my 3 year old son on a tricycle. Had I hit the gas in that moment of trivial and irrational rage I would have rolled him under the car tangled in the tricycle. That STILL haunts me to think of what stupid thing I almost did. One second of hesitation made the difference between life and killing my own son. It was a real lesson for me too in terms of controlling my temper and to stop and think before acting out of frustration.

US toddlers shoot more people every year than cops are shot. Not a problem , look over here a minute....

So tell us =rather than complaining about guns, what exactly is your solution?

And the numbers are going down despite more and more guns. In other words, desiring to ban guns is stupid

When I see people screaming for the blood of the mother, I realize the real crime to those calling for her to be punished is they think she might be a gun owner.

Name any other "irresponsible ownership" items of parents you have ever posted about? Link to your message about securing household chemicals. Suffocation. Drowning. Anything else? If you can't, it is fair to conclude you really aren't concerned about child safety, only your hatred of guns.

I wish I had one. What's the penalty for leaving a loaded hand gun in a car if any?

When I see people screaming for the blood of the mother, I realize the real crime to those calling for her to be punished is they think she might be a gun owner.

Whether she is prosecuted is HIGHLY dependent upon the legal jurisdiction. Some will do nothing. Others will throw the book at her. But that also applies to preventable drowning and other careless conduct by a parent - such as leaving the child behind in a hot car etc.

Life is full of tragedies. Trust in the Lord for protection from trouble or comfort in trouble.

Nope.

Putting your trust in trigger guards and gun safes makes a heck lot more sense.

Whatever you say jokeo. Since you can read my mind you must know what I really think of you.

Jesus ****ing Christ!

Unbelievable

It made me think of the argument "Guns don't kill people...people kill people". Because apparently this tragedy was going to occur whether a gun was present or not....

I wish I had one. What's the penalty for leaving a loaded hand gun in a car if any?

None in Florida. Why should there be a penalty for leaving a loaded gun in a car? I have 3 or 4 in my truck. So?

Whatever you say jokeo. Since you can read my mind you must know what I really think of you.

So your answer is no, you have posted no threads on other ways children have died - many, many more - by recklessness of a parent.

I bet we can agree that what we think of each other is irrelevant to anything. I was pointing out your concern isn't about the child, it is just about hating guns.

Her behaviour is directly responsible for the death of her child. I'm betting if she had left her child behind in a hot car and the child had died, you would think there should be some form of punishment.

Am I correct?

How many times has this happened in New Zealand?

This doesn't happen in New Zealand to my knowledge, in New Zealand all they do is shoot up mosques and kill far more people.

Makes it easy for someone to steal. What if say a child of 4 got a hold of it and shot someone?

Maybe it's because in those other threads, people aren't trying to justify and deflect from the parent's behavior?

I don't remember hearing about a big lobby group for: "Leave your child in the sunbaked car"

EDIT: Christ, in the time it took me to type this and post it, I looked at the posts above...my point was made.

Medical errors kill more Americans every year than guns, cars and alcohol combined. [sup]Link[/sup]

Ban hospitals now I guess.

Did she know the gun was there? Did she think that a four year old could access it? Lots of facts are not yet in evidence.
