New Zealand Bans Assault Weapons

Where did you read that NZ banned fully automatic weapons today?
Want to try to stay on topic now?

Not being able to own fully auto weapons is oppression trix. Want to have a cry with us, come let us commiserate.

Right. It's silly to just outlaw murder. People will just murder anyway. Why have laws at all? People will just break them. We don't need no stinking laws, just more guns.
Murder already is outlawed, it should stay outlawed. And, good people should be allowed to own and carry guns so that they can stop murderers. Laws don't mean a thing if they're not enforced.

Given no legally owned automatic in the hands of a private citizen, has ever been linked to a murder in the USA in the last 80 years, explain why Democrats banned the sale of all such firearms made after 1986?

Seems like it’s working, huh? [emoji6]

I bet if we made it easier for people to buy assault rifles our murder rate would go down

I would say our murder rate would go down further if we made it easier for people to buy handguns. When somebody is carrying a gun usually its a handgun and as it is, handguns are usually harder to buy than assault rifles.

Yeah, I'm sure the repeal of that law would propel us to a new era of peace. Lol.

Diatribes of an oppressed gun owner do not impress me much.

The murder rate would go down if we made it easier to buy handguns. If you're going to carry a gun of some sort it will most likely be a handgun.

As for assault rifles, those are full automatics or burst fire weapons, not the kind of weapons used in the NZ shooting.

You're the one who tossed in the strawman argument; full automatic weapons, so you ought to know what oppression feels like.
Not getting enough attention today?

Everyone pass Winston a tissue.
I'm gonna' go cry him a river now. ;)

The poor oppressed gun owner, how do you guys live under such tyranny?

Can you not even own a fully auto weapon? What miserable chains you live in.

In the USA you can own a fully auto weapon if you've got a class 3 firearms permit, which is quite hard to get.

But as for me, I prefer handguns.

So according to the shooter's manifesto, he didn't initially plan to target NZ, but moved there to train and plan out his assault. It sounds to me like he wasn't worried about getting guns. In California, it's easy to buy a Chinese AK-47 knock off. The ports of California receive hundreds of tons of imports from China daily, and guns, drugs, and counterfeit items slip through quite easily. Automatic weapons are outlawed here, and they're as easy to get as a handgun.

My posts were not strawmen, rather satire with a strong foundation in a valid argument. Since there is a group of people whining about gun laws being oppressive in this thread, it follows that the laws restricting the sale of fully auto weapons in this country are oppressing them. Do you think gun laws are oppressive or not? If you do, let's commiserate together about the plight of the gun owner. For he is in wretched want of a machine gun.

Not enough firepower, NZ citizens need something fully automatic, I bet their murder rate would go down!

Long guns are too big, cumbersome, and awkward to carry around on a day to day basis. Handguns are much more portable and have good stopping power in skilled hands.

You do know that such drivel only proves my point-you don't like the politics of gun owners and that alone is justification-in the venal minds of leftwingers-to support stupid laws that are designed to harass honest gun owners.

So tell me-if the strict regulation of machine guns was working-why did dems engage in subterfuge to ban them? It shows perfectly that crime control is not what motivates the dem gun banners.

Well some states are working on that. There have been some states in recent years that have started to allow constitutional carry which means you can carry a concealed handgun without a permit. Also there has been some work to pass national reciprocity which means if you've got a carry permit from your home state you can carry handguns in all 50 states. And they are talking about arming people with handguns it what would otherwise be "gun free zones" such as having armed faculty and staff at schools. And some churches and religious institutions are starting to allow people to carry handguns while there. So we're definitely working towards that.

Are gun laws oppressive? Depends where you are. In some states they're more oppressive than in others.

The liberal answer is to create more laws the criminals will ignore.

Creating more laws just because you can't enforce the ones you've got is silly, not to mention stupid.

It does nothing of the sort. Rather it casts a light on the paradoxical mind of the oppressed gun owner. Poor baby, with such limited options, and in want of a fully auto, how will you ever enjoy your hobby?
