Since guns don't kill people, why do we claim we need them for protection?

If only people kill people, why do we 'arm' our armed forces?

I'm not advocating taking away anyone's guns, nor am I even talking about gun control. I'm trying to understand the reasoning for owning a firearm when it's the firearm owners who claim guns don't kill people.

Because they face other armed threats. Why are they called the Department of Defense?

Why are the guys who don't have the football called the defense? Defense doesn't necessarily mean weapons/firearms.

The same reason that those who do have the baseball are called the defense. A criminal offense doesn't necessarily mean being armed either but being armed can stop that offense - often, without firing a shot.

It would be more accurate. We haven't been attacked since 1941 and yet our department of defense has sure been on the offensive in many countries since 1941.

Footballs don't get goals by themselves, and baseballs don't get home runs by themselves. And nuts and bolts in a box don't hold cars together, and a walnut in a shell in not nutritious.

You are using high school logic. A gun is a tool just like a just like a baseball bat or Tom Brady. ;) A 90 pound woman will strike out with a baseball bat, but not so likely with a .45.

How long do I have to wait and I don't own a firearm so that whole scenario isn't going to happen, however, I can picture it and no amount of time will make the gun go off. My point is basically this, gun owners are so afraid of who else might have a gun they feel the need to be able to carry concealed weapons. It automatically puts the person without a gun at a severe disadvantage. Our society has turned into such puss ies we can only feel safe with a firearm? Everywhere we go is a potential dangerous situation? That kind of paranoia gets innocent people killed and stupid laws like stand your ground only makes it worse. I felt threatened is not good enough to kill someone and ask questions later. We can't have reasonable gun laws because legal gun owners refuse to believe they themselves and their hard core stances are part of the gun problem.

What do you mean "turned into ******s"? I mean, you're right, but not the way you think.

1. We've probably never had so few gun owners and people walking around with guns as we do today.

2. People freaking out over the presence of a gun are there real...what was that word you used again?...******s?
