The Real National Emergency

Sadly it appears that they are extremely careless about keeping those legal guns safe from theft. It's ironic don't you think. You say guns keep you safe but you can't keep your guns safe? Is that why guys you buy so many of them? So you won't miss one or two when you leave them in your unlocked car?:lamo It is interesting that if criminals didn't have guns then you wouldn't have an excuse to have a dozen or 2. So maybe that explains the carelessness.

Analysis: Lost, stolen guns used in thousands of crimes | The Seattle Times

There should be tougher penalties for the criminals who steal guns.

No we can't bring them back but with more good guys with guns who are well trained and not cowards we can prevent such tragedies in the future.

And far less than 1% of the people who legally buy guns ever use them in crimes.

I've got a gun vault that is very secure. I keep my guns locked in the vault.

I always keep my car locked when Im not in it, whether I've got guns in it or not.

Some people like to collect guns, that's why they might have so many. You need different tools for different jobs. A hunting rifle is not going to be used as an EDC. A small handgun is not going to be used to take large game. You need a shotgun if you want to hunt ducks or if you want to shoot skeet or trap.

So maybe that explains the carelessness.
Im not careless in how I store or transport my guns. On the contrary I take extra steps to make sure I do so safely.

Sadly there are those gun owners who don't properly store their guns, although as to the lost and stolen guns Im skeptical as to how many of them were legally owned to begin with.

For a while in California, voters had decided to reduce the charge of stealing a gun to a misdemeanor, and when the state legislature voted to make it a felony again good ol' Jerry Brown vetoed that bill. The only way it became a felony again was by linking it to more draconian gun laws in Prop 63.

How would anyone need two dozen guns for self defense? The most I can think of if two, one for home, one for carry. With regards for the use of multiple guns, if money was no object, I could pick at least ten new shotguns out of the Benelli shotgun catalog right now, each with a different intended use.

If that's the case, then why do you choose to vehemently defend it, why do you and most gun nuts act as if you're going to lose them every time a Democrat is in the white house?

Because the last one skipped Congress to change a law. I'm actually more afraid of Congress. If the Democrats controlled everything we would see our rights attacked, which is why getting control of SCOTUS was so important.

Everyone knows we only have one REAL emergency . Ill Douche-A RTrump

Given that you agreed with this post, calamity, you've lost any justification for a claim that gun control is a national emergency.

What rights are you referring to that will be attacked if Democrats controlled everything ?

Assault weapons ban, for one, including magazine capacity restrictions. Insufficiently protected red flag laws. Rights of the mentally ill. Retention of the absurd NFA 1934. Unenforceable "universal" background checks that criminalize behavior that doesn't put society at risk. Requiring a license to exercise a right. Charging a fee to exercise a right.

For a start.

keep going...How about the right to a legal abortion ? Who is trying to restrict/eliminate this right ?

keep going...

Oh, I'm sure there's some speech restrictions in the long term plan of the young progressives. I can't really think like those people so I can't provide a comprehensive list.

Sounds like you can't prove your claim/speculation.

Do you think that if the Democrats controlled everything that they would pass an assault weapons ban? They introduced one in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Republicans, of course, which action I also oppose.

The latest "reasonable restriction" craze seems to be enacting magazine capacity limits on all guns. The debate centers on which number (between 5 and 10?) is more "reasonable" as the magazine capacity limit.

The right to keep and carry their legally purchased gun(s) that one now enjoys.

I;m not worried about that myself. I've owned and carried for decades. No Dems have done that yet.

"Possibly"?

Here's the Democratic Party platform.

"With 33,000 Americans dying every year, Democrats believe that we must finally take sensible action to address gun violence. While responsible gun ownership is part of the fabric of many communities, too many families in America have suffered from gun violence. We can respect the rights of responsible gun owners while keeping our communities safe. To build on the success of the lifesaving Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, we will expand and strengthen background checks and close dangerous loopholes in our current laws; repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to revoke the dangerous legal immunity protections gun makers and sellers now enjoy; and keep weapons of war—such as assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines (LCAM’s)—off our streets. We will fight back against attempts to make it harder for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to revoke federal licenses from law breaking gun dealers, and ensure guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists, intimate partner abusers, other violent criminals, and those with severe mental health issues. There is insufficient research on effective gun prevention policies, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must have the resources it needs to study gun violence as a public health issue."
