Many members of Generation Z -- young people between 15 and 21 -- have taken more active roles in political activism this year, and a new survey indicates that the state of the nation is to blame for this generation's stress levels. As gun violence, sexual assault claims and immigration dominate the 2018 news cycle, the American Psychological Association's annual Stress in America survey says that such issues are the main cause of stress among young adults.
The survey, released Tuesday, was conducted among 3,459 people 18 and older, and it included interviews with 300 teenagers ages 15 to 17. It measures attitudes and perception of stress to identify the leading sources of stress among the general public.

Generation cupcake more like it... jeezum

Are you (and they) saying the kids of the 1960's didn't have stress? over-prescribing more like it than cupcakes :)

I think we have too much navel gazing going on.

Too much social media and not enough actual social interactions.

What the hell are you on about?

Well, you did call the kids "cupcakes". I'm simply pointing out the behavior of the non-cupcake previous generations. Presumably, you approve of their stress management techniques.

It was funny, Sunday evening I was my new bowling league (and I'm still hurting for it... don't bowl for 18 months then try to bowl like you could... ) ANYWAY looking around anyone under about 35ish had their faces in their phones, and anyone over 35 was generally talking to people and watching the bowling.

I found that amusing. I even posted about it on my FB and Tweeted it. :p (okay yeah I was chatting with the wifey but only briefly and tried to get to know my new team)

Drives me crazy when we are at a family cook out and one member is always constantly on Facebook using the phone

Blink Blink Blink. What are you on about?

That sounds like a parenting issue. I'm a firm believer in phone free mealtimes.

This person is over the drinking age lol. No it's a his/her issue.

So because some folks are concerned about innocents being massacred in gun crimes , they are "cupcakes"?

Your sensitivity towards your fellow Americans is staggering.

Yeah, it is. These kids will smoke dope, have unprotected sex, ride in cars....

Yet they fear something that statistically is way way way down the list of things to worry about.

People are stuuuupid.

Arg, Renae, you know I love you, but you make it hard when discount the problems and issues of others, simply because they are not yours. Mental illness is on the rise in pretty much every demographic. It's a real problem, and saying things like "generation cupcake" isn't helping.

When you worry about something that, statistically is so low, and yet partake in much more dangerous activities I shake my head at you.

Your sensitivity - or glaring lack of it - regarding the concerns of your follow Americans is simply stunning.

Or, perhaps it's indicative of overall societal pressures mounting, and people trying to explain what they don't understand by point to what's most visible to them in the media.

There's a compassionate way to look at this...I just don't understand why you'd default to the opposite of that all the time.

Actually, two of the three are way down compared to past Gen ;)

I don't coddle stupidity in the hopes of being seen as "caring".

I have the same view of people that fear flying, riding roller coasters or other activities. You really want to get into it, these kids aren't afraid because they are scared, they are being scared into fearing something for political gain by others.

Were you at the bowling alley when FBing and Twittering?

Yeah but, that's aside the point. You smoke a joint, drive a car? Yeah they'll do that and not think twice. Scared of a school shooting? They'll piss their pants.

It's mind numbing.

That doesn't explain the rise in mental illness across all demographics. And there's a mile of difference between being simply "afraid" and being diagnosed with mental illness.

Maybe the better approach to take would be actually trying to address the drivers. Calling them degrading names won't reduce the cost of mental illness on your society.
