I decided that it would be interesting to see everybody's wish list as to what gun laws they would want implemented what 3 laws they would settle on if given a compromise. I'll start.

My wish list.

1. Abolishing the NFA

2. Constitutional carry nation wide

3. Abolishing background checks

4. Abolishing gun free zones

5. National carry reciprocity

6. Abolishing any and all magazine limits and "assault weapons" bans nation wide.

What I would settle on.

1. Abolishing the NFA

2. Abolishing any and all magazine limits and "assault weapons" bans nation wide.

3. National carry reciprocity.

If we could just abolish gun free zones, I would be happy.

There goes about 80% of our mass shooting possibilities right there.

federal gun control is contrary to the second and tenth amendments and should be stricken. I haven't decided if the Gun control act of 68's prohibitions on felons etc is constitutional but the states certainly can prevent such people from having firearms.

I'd settle for the NFA being eliminated, and firearms bans, magazine bans be stricken in the states. Private property owners could maintain gun free zones but they are liable for harm if they don't provide access restrictions and armed security

I'd go with the first three. Since they had no call to enact the NFA other than to say it prevented criminals from having automatic weapons. All it did was make it so the average Joe couldn't.
Constitutional carry nation wide? Why not. Do they think a law contrary will stop the criminal? When I SAY criminal I'm meaning killer, rapist, home invader etc. not DUI or late on taxes.
Far as background checks go it seems they don't do much good except to hassle people and in the times they might actually do some good they let them slip by. Or in the event they check the box asking if you've ever been convicted of a crime they could check it yes and write HOME INVASION and chances are there would be a denial but no follow up.
And as far as GUN FREE zones if someone insists on it they face the consequences.
For #10 Abolishing the NFA should take care of.Should.

1. Abolish the NRA

2. Ban ALL privately owned firearms (needs the repeal of the 2nd Amendment)

3. Ban the private sale of ammunition

4. Minimum 5 years prison and $250,000 fine if caught owning/possessing an illegal firearm

What I would settle for:

1. Ban all firearms except:
i - Muzzle loaders
ii - Bolt action rifles
iii - Single and double barreled shotguns with a barrel of at least 18"

(and needs the repeal of the 2nd Amendment)

2. Severe penalties for being caught with an illegal forearm but perhaps not including prison time if the weapon was never discharged

Your list is the best way to increase gun deaths

You have exactly one post to actually contribute to the thread before I report you. What is your wish list of laws you want implememted and what laws are you willing to settle on?

you willing to sacrifice everything you have to achieve that-because lots of people would fight hard to prevent it

Have you ever told us what has caused your hatred of private firearms ownership?

If the Left would shutup and listen, they would win every election, hands down.

Report me. I am free to comment DIRECTLY on your op. The laws you suggested are the quickest way to increase gun deaths.

I think felons should be restricted from carry and use of fire arms while incarcerated as well as while serving parole or probation. I do believe a path to complete reinstatement all rights should be available and a goal for every criminal. I think clearly dangerous people should not be released back into society. I think we should always work towards rehabilitation rather than punishment if we want to truly reduce or eliminate crime.

I am on board with everything except gun free zones. I think there are times and places that firearms should be restricted. Prisons and mental facilities are an example. I think there should be restrictions on certain firearms. I think that there should at least be licensing of things like Quad 50 mounted on your roof.

Reported. Off topic and low content posts are against forum rules. This isn't about whether or not my proposals will raise or lower gun deaths. This is about what would you propose as laws. So, I ask again, list some laws that is on your wish list and list laws you are willing to settle for.

I am directly commenting on your OP. The laws you are presenting will cost lives. This is a gun control forum and your laws are not gun control. It is you that is off topic. You should take this to political opinions.....not gun control

First off, this is a debate forum. This sub forum covers debates about gun control and anything gun related in general. Offering arguments against gun control is well within the rules of the forum. Second, commenting on OP must be on topic.

This is a democracy...they are totally free to fight against it (within the confines of the law of course)

Why does the right always assume that people who support gun control "hate" guns ?

I'm also an Atheist - and also accused of being so because I "hate" god.

I reject the idea that guns are necessary (except perhaps for a few cases and even then only certain types of firearm as I alluded to earlier).

Guns kill. It's what they are intended for.

Do you think successive British governments "hate" guns ?

I actually like guns, I like to read about their history and development.

I have fired several types of firearm and to be honest, enjoyed firing them.

However the bottom line is that guns are just TOO dangerous and people (generally) cannot be trusted.

I don't hate you. For all I know you have dozens of firearms and until the day you day not one will ever be used in an illegal manner.

But how do I or anyone KNOW that for sure ?

So are making arguments FOR gun control that are DIRECTLY related to the OP.

1. Abolish the NRA
So you would abolish Article 1, the 1st amendment, the 9th amendment, and the 10th amendments
2. Ban ALL privately owned firearms (needs the repeal of the 2nd Amendment)

and abolish the 2nd and 4th amendments as well.

Why do you want to abolish the bill of rights and the Constitution of the United States?

This is a democracy...they are totally free to fight against it (within the confines of the law of course)
The United States is not a democracy. Democracies do not have a constitution. The United States is organized as a federated republic. It has a constitution. Indeed, it has more than one of them. Each State has a constitution. Each country has a constitution. Each city has a constitution.
Why does the right always assume that people who support gun control "hate" guns ?
Because you want to take them away.
...deleted off topic content...
I reject the idea that guns are necessary (except perhaps for a few cases and even then only certain types of firearm as I alluded to earlier).
Too bad. You are not a dictator.
Guns kill. It's what they are intended for.
Not entirely correct. There are guns designed to save lives, rather than kill. Flare guns, and avalanche control guns, for example. Guns are also used for certain types of rigging.
Do you think successive British governments "hate" guns ?
For anyone else than themselves, yes.
I actually like guns, I like to read about their history and development.
That is not liking the gun. That is liking the history of guns.

So you are arguing against your own argument.

Who are YOU to say how 'trustworthy' anyone is? You are not a dictator.
I don't hate you. For all I know you have dozens of firearms and until the day you day not one will ever be used in an illegal manner.
And the hundreds of millions that are just like him.
But how do I or anyone KNOW that for sure ?
How do you know someone won't try to knife you on the street tomorrow? or shoot you with an arrow? or kill you with their car? or blow you up with a bomb?

You don't.

Agreed. Courtrooms are another place for a gun free zone, other than the bailiff.

I wish for a law that makes it a capital offense to use the term "common sense" in the same sentence as the term "gun laws".

Personally, I agree with Maccabee: namely

1. Abolishing the NFA

2. Constitutional carry nation wide

3. Abolishing background checks

4. Abolishing gun free zones

5. National carry reciprocity

6. Abolishing any and all magazine limits and "assault weapons" bans nation wide.

I would also add abolishing the TSA. People understand that any fool hijacking an airplane now isn't going to last five seconds, no matter how they're armed, before they are crushed by the rest of the passengers. People today know a hijacking is a life and death situation and there is nothing to lose. It's not just a trip to Cuba anymore. Bullet holes in airplanes at 35000ft will not cause explosive decompression like you see in the movies. The masks might not even drop. The cockpit itself is easily hardened.

No just the NRA - as a hate group

...why do you want to abolish the bill of rights and the Constitution of the United States?

Just the 2nd Amendment

This is required to ban all privately owned firearms

No just the NRA - as a hate group

Just the 2nd Amendment

This is required to ban all privately owned firearms
I'd like to see treason indictments issued against those who want to ban guns and secondary indictments issued against gun banners since they are the real hate group

The United States is not a democracy...

Says who ?

...Democracies do not have a constitution....

Most democracies have a constitution

However most republics are not democratic - not right to vote (or in rigged elections)
Republic is a bad word for much or the world and much or world history

The most evil regimes in modern history have been republics.

But we digress...we've already established you know nothing about politics or political terms

...too bad. You are not a dictator....

Like most republics that ever existed

...there are guns designed to save lives, rather than kill. Flare guns, and avalanche control guns, for example. Guns are also used for certain types of rigging....

And starting pistols used at track and field events...and those guns that shoot human cannonballs into nets at the circus.

Yes you're right.

Chalk up a pedantic point. Of course these are not the kind of guns anyone here is talking about so...back in the real world...

...for anyone else than themselves, yes....

Then you'd be wrong

...that is not liking the gun. That is liking the history of guns....

No it's not...as your creative editing (below) shows when I said I like shooting guns.

I like mountains...I like reading about their geological creation and development.

...so you are arguing against your own argument....

Nope

I like shooting guns

I like guns (I have a concealed carry license issued by the state of Georgia)

How is this arguing against myself ?

...who are YOU to say how 'trustworthy' anyone is? You are not a dictator....

Errr that's the POINT !!!

Who is ANYONE to decide how trustworthy anyone else is ?

Are you saying YOU are someone who is able to say how trustworthy anyone else is with a gun ? If so how did you come by that qualification ?
What was the name of the school ?

...how do you know someone won't try to knife you on the street tomorrow?

I don't

So I don't support allowing people to walk around armed with knives.
