Teen 'Playing' With Gun Shot 16-Year-Old Girl at Point-Blank Range in Dallas: Police

How about laws mandating medicine be secured?

How about laws mandating not having certain scenes in movies that people might try to imitate?

Yes to number one and number two is stupid

We could start with arresting this kids parents

As pointed out by another member, the "kid" was a legal adult and arrested. So I ask again, how would mandatory safe laws would've prevented this?

How do you come up with this. I can't tell you how many times I have bought a new gun and friends of mine asked to see it. I would clear it and hand it to them where they would look it over. Of course in my circle of friends we don't clown around point our guns at each other. But what if I handed my gun to a friend and he points it in someone's face and pulls the trigger. How is it my fault this person shot someone.

That is the biggest problem in this country. People not taking responsibility for their actions.
Good question.
1:First vg says or claims to know it was the parents fault.
2:Then it's IF.
3:Now we can start by arresting the parents.
4:Now it's back to WHOSE gun was it? "We CAN hold THAT person accountable".
So it should be the NRAs fault next.

Laws don't prevent anything. Everyone knows that. What's needed is having to pass a test about safe handling, storage and transport. I don't say you should have to take a course but you should have to pass a test.
'Course, now it's a license and now it's a privilege so now it's an infringement. And now, again, the constitution is getting in the way.

If such a law were put in place, it would be put in place by Democrats. The requirements to pass the test would be established by GCA Democrats who haven't the skills or experience to actual set such requirements. It would end up being a screen out, pure and simple.

Too bad we don't have laws mandating weapons be secured

Most hand-guns are for home defense - what good would it do to 'secure' it? Don't blame the weapon, blame the 18 year old for 'playing' with a weapon. Too many unanswered questions to draw too many conclusions.

I really think gun safety should be taught in schools. I don’t know if it would have prevented this, but it would probably prevent some tragedies.

Well the coast guard and Sheriff’s will stop and check any boat for life vests. I am sure we can just do the same thing for homes. Should work out splendid.

Really? I certainly hope you're being sarcastic.

You assume Democrats know nothing about guns?
Damn. Your country really is split on bogus partisan lines, isn't it.

edit- where I live, a pretty rural place, nearly every home contains at least one liberal and at least one gun. My house contains two of each.

No, I assume Democratic lawmakers know next to nothing about guns.

So I suppose its alright for the boy who saw the movie Program to imitate a scene and get himself killed.

He would be an idiot. He was a idiot long before that movie was made

awful day for both families. by the time my son was 7 or so he knew damn well how to handle a firearm safely. I wish other parents would do that-even ones who don't own or care to own guns. I've had at least dozen parents who aren't gun owners ask me to teach their kids gun safety-they know their kids might be at a party or gathering where there is a gun around.

Agreed. The key to stopping this sort of thing is education.

Which part? The Coast Guard and Sheriff’s will pull you over rifle through your **** and threaten to impound your boat if you dare act inconvenienced in any way. No sarcasm there.

But think of all the millions of people whose lives are saved by guns every year.

That, along with the millions of guns that dont kill anyone every year, and the millions of gun owners that own them not killing anyone, yes, I think we're in pretty good shape on our current gun control.

The person doing the shooting was over the legal age of adulthood and could of legally owned a firearm. The parents should in no way be charged or held responsible for the actions of their adult offspring. Holding the parents responsible has absolutely nothing to do with preventing future actions nor is there anything common sence about such an approach. Its simple an extra vindictive form of revenge

Agreed.

One purpose of the guns is home defense. Unless the parents believed their adult son to be a danger to others, of course they'd share any home defense plans, safe combo, etc with him. There's nothing irresponsible about that.

What criminal acts, what gun violence, does all that testing prevent? The vast majority of gun deaths are from deliberate crime and suicide. No training of any kind is needed for either.

Training is just a 'feel-good' measure that adds to bureaucracy and costs. Most people get training on their own. Many grow up with guns in the family or take training for self-defense or fun.

To clarify: everyone agrees training is good. But demanding it to reduce gun crimes is useless.

I'll give ya that one, since I'm also a liberal, and know that many of my well-educated and well-trained gun-owning friends are liberals, that Microsoft has a gun club, and that you will find strong 2A supporters in many surprising places in W. WA. etc etc etc.

If the democrats.. every figure out that gun control is their third rail of politics.. and they became pro gun.. they would find, I think that they would win just about every election. The democrat anti gun stance is probably the single largest thing that hurts the democrat party.. and they just.. for some reason.. can't figure that out.

Umm...I'd say pro-choice for abortion is but you may be right.
