"Experts" have come up with what defines a mass shooting. I am curious what is the criteria for being able to claim you are a "survivor" of a mass shooting?

1. Get wounded by gun fire but survived?

2. Be present at the location where the shooting took place?

3. Be within the ballistic range of a rogue bullet, but not necessarily on the property where the shooting originated?

and my favorite...

4. Identify politically as liberal or a democrat, and "survived" hearing about the shooting on the news?

Was #4 worth derailing your own thread from the first post?

I'll choose 2 (more or less) as a serious answer.

So a person can be a "survivor" of a mass shooting having not been shot at by the gunman?, not even be in "ballistic" danger either by distance or barrier? Like for example the case with Parkland Florida "survivor" David Hogg who it turns out that he allegedly was not in the building when the shooting happened. Is he a shooting survivor simply because he was a student at the school, and lost classmates he was an acquaintance to?

Yes. Because he was there. If had had stayed home from school sick that day then he would not be a survivor.

If you are in the building, hear the shooting, hear the screaming, are hiding under your desk or somewhere else worried that you are about to die, and then don’t die, you are a survivor of that incident.

The first two, I should think.

Would you say that a person driving in a bad neighborhood with their windows rolled down, hearing gun shots would be a "survivor" of a shooting?

If your campus was on lockdown and you were there on the campus with a mass shooting in progress, then no one should quibble about you being called a survivor.

I suppose if it was a college campus, with a shooting in a dorm and you were half a mile away in the science building, then it might be a stretch to call you a survivor.

But if you're bitter that a high school student who was on his high school campus during a mass shooting is being called a survivor ... well, I don't know what to say to that.

Not at all bitter, there are several accounts cast reasonable doubt that David Hogg was not on the property at the time of the shooting. One such account came from his own mouth on camera. Others were from his classmates saying he wasn't present! It wasn't until he became a celebrity mouth piece for gun control did he change his story.

So, if he was on campus, you agree he qualifies as a survivor? But you don't believe he was on campus?

Well, those are two different subjects then.

using his criteria, everyone alive in 2001 in NYC was a survivor of 9-11

Me personally I believe you have to be shot, and live to be a survivor of a shooting!

If the shooter was targeting random cars on that street at that very moment, yes.

Well number one would the big one followed by number 2, 3 is stretching it and four is absurd.

Keep in mind I actually know a mass shooting survivor, and let's just say if someone says let's eat at luby's he becomes very disgruntled.

Number 1 and 2. Especially if you have to bury your friends later that week

I choose one and two, however I might want to narrow it down depending on the size of the building.
