Police found shotgun shells in the back of Frantz’s vehicle and arrested him, according to the report reviewed by CNN.

The 20-year-old was charged with possession of unregistered ammunition, a violation of D.C. firearm and ammunition possession restrictions.

Seriously? They busted the kid because he had shotgun shells in his trunk or the back of his SUV?

I don't see anything about having a gun to shoot the shells out of.

I'm so glad I don't live in a Gestapo environment like that.

Each State, and yes I know DC is not a State has laws.

Unregistered ammunition. Wow.

I'm going to agree with you on this one.

There are laws against pot, but that doesn't mean that I agree with them.

That's pretty nuts, I agree. The more interesting part of the article to me was this part:

U.S. Capitol Police told CNN in a statement that officers responded to a “dispute” between the intern, Scott Frantz, and another individual in Franz’s car near the Capitol.

Seems odd....

Thank God we have a chance to get someone like Kavanaugh on the court. Can you imagine if it were different? Shotgun shells? Seriously? Talk about a Fascist society.

I suspect it will get resolved at court, but I believe the coppers had no choice here.

I've always been told that if stopped by the police, act like a grown up, maybe get a ticket, and the problem goes away. Act like a jerk and get your car inspected for any violation whatsoever. A lot more of this story needs to be told. And besides it is against the law to carry ammunition in your car in DC. Pro gun state senators should probably advise their interns of such.

The horror !!!!

Washington Police = Gestapo Gestapo Gestapo Gestapo !!!

The whole District (with the obvious exception of the few Republicans) = Nazi Nazi Nazi Nazi !!!

Let's get those Republican snowflakes out and then just MOAB the place.

Did you have something pertinent to add?

I've always been told that if stopped by the police, act like a grown up, maybe get a ticket, and the problem goes away.

I can vouch for this and then some: I have been stopped dead to rights, including drunk, on many occasions and let go without a ticket. (BTW I've cleaned up my act and am ashamed for irresponsibility. I could have killed someone)

I attribute much of my good results to the limited vocabulary I used in such situations:

"Yes sir"
"No sir"
"I'm sorry sir"
"I agree with you sir"
And say those words with all the sincerity you can call forth.

I am not kidding- I must have said "I agree with you sir" five times the last time I was pulled over.

Maintaining eye contact is also a good idea, and here's another tip foir you drunks: practice standing on one foot, leaning back with your arms outstretched then touching your nose with your finger, and walking toe to heel for several steps. I had to go through that exactly three times . The first time I got everything right except I touched my upper lip instead of my nose on the first try. As for standing on one foot, if you ever have to do it for the police extend your foot in front of you.

Right you are. It wouldn't be suprising if this intern did some mouthing off at the police.

And besides it is against the law to carry ammunition in your car in DC. Pro gun state senators should probably advise their interns of such.
It wouldn't be suprising if all seantors adopted this as an SOP.

I think he pretty much means D.C. sucks.;)
No.

My first ovenight visit to DC took place during the Nov. 1969 Anti-war demonstration. Hundreds of thousands of peaceful people. Those were the days, my friend!

Then I spent about a 10 days in DC with some friends in the 1970s and had a great time. And they did not live in any swanky area, either. In fact the were within walking distance of the Tally's Corner of sociological note.

No overnight visits since then, but have thoroughly enjoyed each of maybe 20 day trips. (My brother lives in Rockville MD and my sister lives in Alexandria VA)

What do they tell us when people get arrested for pot? Yeah, that's right, they say "too bad, change the law if you don't like it!".

That said, I'm consistent and will agree this law is way over the top.

I don't know, I've met more cops than not that have an attitude down here in Texas.

Still, even if the cop is being a total dick it's never wise to escalate things with an attitude yourself or resisting an arrest.

Obviously nobody wants a ticket or to be arrested, but if you get aggressive with a cop you'll regret it every time. Make it easy on yourself and comply with their orders, allow them to put the cuffs on you in any hypothetical arrest, but never waive your rights no matter how polite they are.

Now who the hell has ever been arrested for pot in about the last 35-40 years who was not dealing and not being ridiculously blatant about it?

And at times you could even be blatant. In about 1980 I smoked pot broad daylight in the Mall in plain view of the Capitol. Reagan (who I voted for twice) soon put a stop to such antics, however.

Take it up with the NRA.

Lots of people are profiled by police and subjected to fishing expeditions, just so they can find a half a joint or even some dust. It's easy money for the state that can extort money from the arrested person.

Don't think it happens? Come to Texas.

Good for you.

Hahahaha.

As a matter of fact the people I visited in DC in the early 1970s moved to Austin!

I visited them there twice for about 10 days. Back then Austin got a 99.99999% rating in my book, thanks in part to carefree wide-open public pot smoking habitats such as Zilcher Park/Barton Springs. Lone Star, Pearl and Tequila didn't hurt either.

Oh, and we didn't see a cop the whole time.

Those were the days, my friend!

Banana Republican Nazis prolly f***ed it up long ago, huh?

WTF are you on about?

Are you unable to deal with having someone counter your experiences with their own, or is there a cop in your family or something?

Are you unable to deal with having someone counter your experiences with their own,
OK, fine.

Go ahead and tell us about all those profilings and fishing expeditions and half a joint encounters. Names, dates, and details please.

And by "details" cover such things as blatancy and personal demeanor while in law enforcement encounter.

No.

There were about 575,000 people arrested for marijuana possession in 2015. I don't know why you're pretending it's rare.
