How come the Thoughts and Prayers aren't working?

It's almost as if it's an empty platitude. The subtext of thoughts and prayers is: "We aren't going to do anything about this problem and we anticipate another mass shooting in the near future."

6/12/2016: Ron Desantis on the Pulse Nightclub shooting:

My thoughts & prayers are with the victims, families & people of Orlando. Thanks to law enforcement who responded to this act of terror.

8/27/2018: Ron Desantis had no comment I can find on the Jacksonville shooting. However, his Republican primary opponent, Adam Putnam has offered, you guessed it thoughts and prayers.
How come liberal whining isn't working? Years and years of whining and yet no change. Perhaps a different strategy should be in order.

What do you propose we do, besides nothing?

Nothing is what we should do. With gun control.

Drug laws, police, addiction, education, jobs, reduce population density. 5% of counties contribute to 68% of the murder. Almost 9000 in 13000 are in relatively small geographic area. Emphasis and focusing efforts is actually something NOT beyond our capability as a nation. Especially if we did things like reduce the size of our military and bring troops home. Use the money to fund jobs in law enforcement and education (target at risk youth) in said areas. Also promote business and jobs. Rather than welfare and systemic poverty.

If you want to deal with mass violence, that is another beast entirely. And very rare. But that starts with mental health. Parenting. Medications. Rage. So on and so fourth. Because there are 70 million gun owners out there who manage to not go on a shooting spree when they have anger issues.

And no. It won’t be easy. And nothing will be done because it requires bipartisan response.

Yep. Gun control. I agree

As long as the laws are written without any input from the NRA, I have confidence they will work. However, I may have jumped the gun (no pun intended), to be clear we are talking mass shooting. Indiscriminate discharging of a firearm in a public place. Not bank robberies, or, I'm going to kill my cheating ex-wife and her boyfriend, correct?

Yep, yet the least likely to be deterred by any new 'gun control' laws are those that plan on not surviving their final act of committing a well publicized mass murder (suicide or suicide by cop are actually part of their "super crime" master plan). They want to be recognized (posthumously) and could care less what might happen after some trial that will never occur.

Nothing is an unacceptable answer to many of us

Yet that is exactly what you have accomplished with your current "offerings", and refuse to change tack to work with law abiding gun owners on solutions that will actually work in America.

Odd.

Thank you for your opinion

Politicians hollow words are not sympathetic.

To me, no argument, but I am a dyed-in-the-wool cynic. I don't know about how these sentiments were perceived by the victims, and neither do you. To me, if even one of the victims achieved any measure of relief from their grief, then the "thoughts and prayers" are working.

Flibbity bippity! LOL

I said a hip hop
Hippie to the hippie
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it out
Bubba to the bang bang boogie, boobie to the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie the beat

I win again.

And if the rest were insulted by a dereliction of duty?

You are such a winner...not a loser like everyone says. LOL

Hey, are you calling me a loser? That's against the rules. Good thing I don't bait and report... ;)

You must have difficulty reading. I

Hmm. Looks like the left wing malice machine has its sights on Ron Desantis all of the sudden. How much does it pay to start an anti Desantis thread nowadays?

I would restrict people's access to guns, I wouldn't ban them.

But, I'm more insulted by the Republican candidates for Governor and their lack of response. They are running with their tails between their legs and they cancelled events in Jacksonville because they were deathly afraid of fielding questions about the Madden shooting.. because they know they basically have an indefensible position. We are going to do nothing.
Why would they "have an indefensible position"? It would seem that Maryland dropped the ball. Maryland with such strict gun laws. He walked into a GUN FREE ZONE with handguns he acquired legally in Maryland [read dropped ball] and illegally took across the state line. Certainly the the left dosen't like it and add the fact it wasn't an AR-15. He never should have passed a BGC. It will be interesting to see where this goes, since O'Malley is blaming Florida gun laws.

It is not the number. It is the type of law. Ours are ineffective
How many times do we go down this road? The only type you and other banners are interested in is complete confiscation. It's not the type of gun law since you will never find the Holy Grail. It's you and ones like you and politicians that keep pushing for more laws that won't do any good since the criminal element won't abide by them. Unless of course you have some magic gun law up your sleeve that dosen't involve confiscation (which won't work anyhow).

If there were no guns, there would be no mass shootings. Can we agree on that much?
So you are cool with turning the US into a giant GUN FREE ZONE? A criminal enablement zone. Yeah right let the good times roll.
