A Navy veteran with a valid concealed carry permit was fatally shot by Portland State University police on Friday when he went to pick up his handgun, which slipped from its holster as he tried to break up a fight.

Can't wait for the NRA response....Won't hold my breath.

Even folks 'armed' with a cellphone have been shot and killed by police. When the police shout 'gun' then you best hope that you're not the subject of their attention.

Do you think that every process is infallible every single time?

A serious problem in its own right.

If the sight (or even the suspected sight) of a gun is just cause for police to shoot the person with or near it then police have far too much power.

???? Dunno who you have been listening to. That statement has just about much validity as "Arming the Police makes everyone safer".

So, let's be clear: Concealed Carry is not a guarantee of safety. Concealed carry merely gives you self-defense options that don't otherwise exist.

Or it can get you killed

As long as you're arguing one single example negates everything about an arguemnt . . .

People still get shot in England, you know.

some foreign gun haters are upset that many Americans have the right to carry firearms so they use extremely rare incidents to pretend such tragedies are a common issue

Cops shot an Annapolis grad in my city who was CCW. He was trying to hand it to them. All it takes is one false move

The problem you're adressing here (is it a problem? Do you care what foreign gun haters think?) the problem in your terms is, why do citizens of a civilized western sociey need to secretly be armed? What kind of society is that?
Don't get me wrong- if I had to live in that society I'd arm myself with the most effective weapons I had available. My question is, why would anyone live like that>

same reason why I get colonoscopies and prostate exams. the alternatives are worse

A question I often ask

The thing that gets me is the fact that a university or a mall has it's own police force at all. Maybe it's just what you're used to. The four UK nation's cops are organised into independent regional forces, (working to a "uniform" standard) but that's it. Some large organisations have security, but they don't have police powers of arrest, and of course none of them have guns.

Or it can get you killed

Yep, in a society that decides that the mere sight of a gun (or a cellphone that is mistaken for a gun) is an immediate threat that allows (requires?) police to 'defend' themselves. The police officer (officers?) that killed this man should be charged with murder and let a jury decide if the shooting was justified in self defense. The 2A does not say that you have the right to keep and bear arms unless a police officer is nearby, sees your gun and gets spooked.

and a system that is loath to charge any LEO with murder and let a jury decide. The nonsense of using an 'internal investigation' (the 'just us' system?) if a government employee kills someone and only mere civilians are subject to the court (criminal justice) system has to stop.

In a country with so many guns....can you blame cops?

The alternative being living in a society that doesn't require you to carry a concealed weapon? Is that the worse alternative?

"require"?

you don't have to carry

you don't have to get checkups with a doctor either

you don't have to have a smoke alarm in your house

And you don't have to live in a place where you need to be armed to protect yourself from your fellow citizens.

And you don't have to live in a place where you need to be armed to protect yourself from your fellow citizens.

why do you interject "need" into this

btw if you NEED a gun and don't have one, you often won't need anything further save a mortician

And you don't have to live in a place where you need to be armed to protect yourself from your fellow citizens.

They dont need to be. They think they need to be

Is it necessary for you to be armed?

is it necessary to wear your seatbelt or have fire insurance?

the consequences of not having done or obtained such things might be rare but are often fatal if they happen
