Sadly, I fear we remain one grisly step away from resolving the gun debate

Your thread is about gun control.

Accept that fact, and start your debate with your own suggested solutions. :coffeepap:

Pretty sure it's asking what Congress can do to stop gun violence in the US without making any further gun control laws.

It could be argued that those families whose children attend these private institutions are disproportionately wealthy and conservative, and that these families associate most often with other families that are wealthy and conservative. It could also be argued that those who are wealthy and conservative disproportionately have a higher gun ownership rate than the average American, and own more guns than the average American.

Why is it, then, that we haven't seen a mass shooting at an elite school, given the arguably easier access to firearms that students, former students and associates at these schools seem to have?

We discussed this in another thread a month or so ago. A few things came up. One was smaller class size and more teacher/staff observation and interaction with students. Also some stricter rules on student behavior and interactions leading to (generally) less bullying. Also that private schools can choose which students to accept and perhaps have fewer of the riskier students. Cruz is a good example of someone who would not likely have been accepted or if he had been, he could have more easily been asked to leave.

I dont remember what some of the other things were, I'll have to see if I can find that thread (out of a million other gun threads!)

How many ways must I say that I did not create this thread to discuss gun control. I've been very clear about what I created this thread to discuss. If you don't want to discuss the actual thread topic, that's fine. Stop posting in the thread.

There are surely plenty of threads wherein gun control is the topic. DP does not need another one.

The only way to significantly reduce gun death is gun control. There is no country on earth with low gun deaths and lax gun laws.

And you are in the gun control forum. Perhaps this should be in a general political forum

He's not looking to discuss solutions, but rather what it would take for Congress to start takings steps to address gun violence.

Unfortunately the US has always had a high tolerance for blood. I liken it back to our pioneer spirit. We will do nothing about this problem until so many people are dying that it can not be ignored. I hope I am wrong but it is unlikely. I hope Congress can act without that. But Sandy Hook taught me something. If all those little kids can be butchered and Congress still did nothing.....then it will take a lot more than that.

And that is disgusting.

It rambled so much I lost interest.

There's alot to be said for being succinct but it does take skill.

the useless verbiage is stupendous. its so hard for gun banners to clearly and distinctly state their positions.
