It certainly means another appointee which means the 2A will be safe for at least a generation at this point. The Heller decision was too close for comfort.

The court needs another David Souter or John Paul steavans.

On the subject of firearms, I would want someone who understands and believes that private citizens are guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment, including ones that people who know little to nothing about guns find scary due to their negative depictions in the media (i.e., AR-15s and so-called "Assault Weapons"). So if we end up with a libertarian justice who cares little about prohibiting gay marriage or cannabis legalization, but is ardent in his or her beliefs regarding the First and Second Amendment protections, count me in.

The last thing we need is another Alito.

It will be hard to replace Kennedy with someone like Kennedy. There were VERY FEW decisions on his part that I disagreed with, though I did understand his reasoning and agreed with it. (its the results I didn't like...CU Anyone?)

Anyways, I doubt very seriously in this climate that we would get another Kennedy. And already you can see that in that Reps want to nominate ASAP and Dems are calling for waiting until after the election. God I hate partisanship.

Of course with the nuclear option having been used I'm pretty sure that the Reps will get their way on this one. We need a different way of putting SCOTUS judges on the bench. One that doesn't involve Congress. Of course that would require an Amendment to the Constitution. But in this instance I think it would be worth it IF done correctly.

I'd like another Clarence Thomas. no more Ginsberg's who don't care what the constitution said or means or people like Stevens who said-that he could not believe the founders WOULD NOT GIVE THE GOVERNMENT THE POWER to ban guns so he would find such a power existed. that sort of dishonesty should disqualify anyone from being on the court
