There has never been any legally owed M-16s in crimes in the USA even before the ban. Now, there has been some crimes in the USA done with M-16s that were illegally imported from Mexico.

If they enforced properly the shooter who killed all those families attending church in Texas a few months ago never would have been able to buy a gun legally.
