Most can, some can't which is why we do back ground checks for gun owners and the TSA checks ID for people getting on planes.

TSA checks are for everyone.....background checks are only for some gun owners. You illustrate the problem perfectly

Uh, background checks are for MOST, by a large margin, gun owners. If you get TSA Precheck you've been background checked, too.

Passengers in private planes don't pass through TSA security.

Yeah we need to make sure everyone gets background checked.....for guns and the TSA. It was a great analogy. Thanks

NICS processed over 25,000,000 BCs in 2017. Unfortunately members of MS13 don't run background checks when the transfer guns to other members and none of those vapid "other countries do it" laws you love so much would make them change.

Not near enough. We have a LOT more to go

the real purpose of UBGC's other than pandering to slow witted voters who will support the politicians who will claim they have DONE SOMETHING is to set a foundation for mandatory registration. The avid supporters of those checks know that without registration, UBGCs are worthless and unenforceable. Since the people who legally buy guns from private citizens are almost never those causing crime, the politicians know that passage of the law won't reduce crime. This will give those pimps the ammo to claim we need registration

Imagine if TSA just let thousands of people thru and said "Well we don't need to check EVERYONE"

You're still missing the point. No matter what laws you enact the criminal element, the ones doing most of the killing, are going to obey the law.

No you are missing the point. Thousands of people are denied firearms every year due to BC's. They work when used. Of course now they can just go get a gun in a private sale if they are denied. That needs to change

the point is-the anti gun movement wants to create laws that they can use to demand more laws and to criminalize behavior by lawful persons that does not cause any objective harm.

If we were starting from square one much of what vegas giants and others just might work, but with millions upon millions of guns - legal and illegal - out there no way registration or universal back ground checks are going to make a significant difference.

We can stop the good guy who suddenly snaps but we can do a heck of lot better with the ones with slow burning fuses who demonstrate continual questionable behaviors. Our history of mass shooters is bursting with people who demonstrated their volatility for months, if not years, before they finally went off. We just need to get better on spotting them. We need a system where concerned friends, relatives can help them.

What happens if we try? Will you die if you have to fill out a form. My god you guys make it sound like filling out that form is like walking thru the fires of hell. Relax

Its just a form

And that "system" does not work anywhere

Are we down to 300 million guns yet?

Will "just a form" remove any guns and, if so, how? It makes you seem silly to say "it's just a form" if you feel that such a system will remove currently legally owned guns. I supplied a very real example of how legally registering a gun can (and did) lead to making one into a criminal unless, of course, they (voluntarily?) give up their previously legal gun.

“It’s 21 or You’re Done”

My Pop-Pop Mahaffey he had a shooting range in the basement of his ranch in Sugarcreek, Pennsylvania… When you turned 7 years of age you were given the right and privilege of learning how to shoot a rifle with the older cousins, aunts, and uncles You were not only taught the art of shooting but the responsibility and respect of firearms as well…

As a teacher and principal for 36 years I have also had the privilege of working with teenagers and young adults…. The 4 D's that change the direction of your life on-a-dime are difficult to understand and cope with as an adult, but most younger individuals have not yet experienced… Disease Dysfunction Divorce and Death…. By 21 years of age, sadly enough life does rough you up a bit more… Emotions are better managed….

That's why I think it is to be unconscionable to federally prohibit an individual from buying a handgun until he is 21 with a thorough background check or three day waiting period yet, open permission for an 18-year-old and a simplistic background check to purchase an A.R. 15… and then walk out the door with no instruction or training

With every Right comes a Responsibility…. To sell a mass killing machine to an 18-year-old without training in the use and respect for the weapon is simply, irresponsible…

I was an NRA member until a few minutes ago… The NRA dropped the ball Big-Time… I would've respected the organization so much more, if they would've stepped forward and spent membership fees setting up training and lessons for 18-year-olds and to certify them prior to purchase… the validation would be important in expand the NRA organization 10 fold…. It would be more appropriate and a more valuable expenditure of member contributions than just, buying politicians … I would suggest it is time for a more intelligent, imaginative, and maybe useful leadership in the NRA to keep it alive and give it real meaning maybe even a purpose and value to the Nation….

If our politicians do not promote a Bill to raise the age to 21 for the purchasing of all guns, I will vote against every incumbent regardless of political party …If a Bill is offered and voted down, I will vote against every politician that voted it down for the rest of my life

Enough is Enough…

What other rights need to be raised to 21?

Re: School Gun Violence

What other rights need to be raised to 21?

certainly the "right" to be drafted, enlist, face capital murder charges, get married, drive a car etc. As my nephew-a Green Beret Major-noted, he has 19 and 20 year olds he trusts his life with and they operate weapons that can level a NY city block in less time it takes me to type this message

calling an AR 15 a mass killing machine eliminates any benefit of the doubt from the person who makes such a silly claim

First of all, the NRA/ILA is an organization that is hated, even by most gun owners. They sell out the gun owners by literally writing a lot of gun control bills and then ask members to keep supporting the ILA. Secondly, if you are going to raise the age to 21, then you are essentially creating the age of adulthood to 21. Are you going to raise the age to vote to 21? Are you going to raise the age to die for your country to 21? Don't think so!

Have you ever shot an AR15? Do you even, truly, know what one is? Calling something a mass killing machine is preposterous. The individual who premeditates a mass shooting is the mass killing machine. Don't blame the tool, blame the person! Guns don't kill people without a human element. No matter what laws you pass and regulations are in place, you will never stop crazy people and criminals. They will find a way to get their plan done, and they could care less about the law. All the laws and regulations cause is the weakening of the population to defend ourselves from these idiots!

lots of gun banners or restrictionists try to bolster their standing and credibility, by claiming they are gun owners. And sometimes they are-they might of inherited guns, or own a quail gun etc. But when they start calling simple semi auto rifles-similar to MI Carbines that the US Government has sold to us private citizens by the boat loads since after WWII, I cannot take such a poster seriously. Its so idiotic as to completely undercut anything he has to say.

And what good is this form going to do? What makes you think the people doing the killing would even bother to fill one out. Those of us who have legally bought guns already filled out a form.
