The US has the highest homicide rate in the developed world and one of the highest gun death rates in the world. To solve this, I have a few proposals. Cities like Chicago have experienced high levels of gun crime because Indiana, which is right next door, has much more lenient gun laws. Therefore, these new gun laws should be instituted at the federal level.

All gun sales shall be conducted with a federally licensed gun dealer.

We should prohibit the sale of automatic weapons to civilians which were manufactured after the passing of such law. Weapons made before the date should have a $200 excise tax on them.

The minimum age to buy handguns (and ammunition) should be 21 and the interstate trade of such weapons should be prohibited except by federally licensed manufacturers or dealers. Individuals will not be allowed to purchase handguns outside their state of residence.

In order to help reduce the number of school shootings, no one shall be allowed to possess firearms within 1,000 feet of a school except for licensed individuals (which includes private security) and on duty law enforcement.

To better keep track of guns which are made, any guns which are sold through a federally licensed dealer shall bear a serial number. Defacement of such number shall be a felony.

The following people will be prohibited from buying or possessing guns: fugitives, illegal immigrants, former US citizens, drug addicts, and anyone who was convicted of a crime with a maximum of a year or more, is subject to a restraining order, was convicted of any domestic violence misdemeanor, or was dishonorably discharged from the military.

The only difference I see is essentially universal background checks and registration.

It goes to far. No to all of the above. Its the bill of rights, not the bill of state granted privileges. Anyone deemed safe enough to return to the general public should have all their rights restored after being released from prison. Adults 18 to 20 years of age should not have their constitutional right to keep and bear arms denied. Your right to keep and bear arms should not be dependents on how close you are to a school. The 2nd amendment grants the right to keep and bear arms to everyone not just law enforcement and security. Punitive taxes on our constitutional rights should be illegal. Its none of the government's ****ing business what firearms I do and don't own despite what anti-2nd amendment want to claim. If I want to buy a firearm from a private individual its none of the government's business despite what anti-2nd amendment trash want to claim. None of what you suggested would stop someone from shooting up a school. After almost all schools have signs that say gun free.So if banning people from having gun in a school doesn't stop mass shootings then what makes you think telling people they can't be a 1000 feet from a school with a gun will stop mass shootings?

So, for the most part, continue doing it like we have been?

Let the bodies pile up. When the rot gets bad enough maybe they'll actually accept that children are being murdered. I think its so heavily covered in the media occurring regularly, people have become hardened.

This where Stalin's quote becomes real "one dead is a tragedy, a thousand dead is a statistic."

Most are already law, the school carry varies by municipality.

Project Exile coast to coast. An Illegal Gun Gets You Five Years in Federal Prison!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Exile

Project Exile is a federal program started in Richmond, Virginia in 1997. Project Exile shifted the prosecution of illegal technical gun possession offenses to federal court, where they carried a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, rather than in state court. Note that federal law (18 U.S.C. sec. 922 & 924) provides for a penalty of ten years in federal prison for being a "prohibited person", i.e., a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, as well as for falsifying information in order to obtain one, or furnishing a gun to a convicted felon.

The NRA has remained a strong supporter of the program as its focus is on severely punishing all gun crimes especially illegal possession rather than by making gun purchases more difficult.[4] NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre stated "By prosecuting them they prevent the drug dealer, the gang member and the felon from committing the next crime... Leave the good people alone and lock up the bad people and dramatically cut crime."[4]

During the first year of Project Exile (1998), homicides in Richmond declined 33%, for the lowest number since 1987, and armed robberies declined 30%. In 1999, homicides declined another 21%.[2] By 2007, homicides in Richmond were down to 57 compared to 122 in the year before Project Exile.

OTHER;

You know, you should have researched EXISTING gun laws before making this poll.
90% of what you want is already law.

...and your "1,000 foot Safe Zone" is already a dismal failure as it is unenforceable and impossible to detect a perp. You would also make an instant felon out of a Dad dropping off his kids and forgot to remove his shotgun from the trunk.

MY SOLUTION (for schools)...make them as safe as courthouses. Done.
We put screens on our windows to keep bugs out, do the same for our children in schools.
Regardless of what happens outside the school, a shooter will have to pass through a metal detector and then be met by two armed guards.
Are lawyers and judges more important than our children?
Protect them the same way the do in courthouses.

MY SOLUTION (for "gun violence" ) Shut up about it, we all know it is only a ploy to ban 100% of anything that goes bang. Every time this is mentioned almost in the same breath, the evil NRA is mentioned too, and then their stripes are shown. Shut up about it. We know what your ultimate intention is and we are not going to give an inch to you because of it.

How many threads have we already had on it? 3,872?

When you are ready to talk about actual solutions instead of your usual hate guns & the NRA, I will listen. Until then, shut up. We have heard it all before.

its really stupid and it proves you don't even know what the current laws are--OR you do and are trolling anti gunners who don't.

As long as people value their guns more than the lives of other people's children...nothing will be done.

as long as the dishonest gun control movement pretends that is the choice, rational thinkers will reject the childish arguments of the anti gun left and those who troll by pretending to be gun banners

Less guns, more guns. Ad nauseam.

Less guns: Make it harder to obtain a gun may make it slighter harder for a killer to obtain a gun. But in reality there are so many guns throughout this country that obtaining one is relatively easy.
More guns: Having someone in the right place and right time with a gun may stop a shooter. Not a 100% solution. Must also take into account more guns means you will have more accidents with guns.

My opinion is not utilizing either one of those options. But rather having the harshest penalty for not safeguarding and securing your weapons. Reducing a killer from taking a family member's legally own gun and reducing number of children getting a parent's gun. Dropping your weapon and firing off a round in public expect a penalty that leaves a mark.

what if, women start claiming equality and equal rights, and Proclaim; you brandish you gun at me, I am getting some!

My money is on the latter.

prefer to brandish your gun at girl scouts, do you?

What exactly are going on about?

Reading what you post is like watching "Bill and Ted" while drunk.

WHy not? Its worked for leftists in the major cities for decades. No one gives a **** about the dead bodies. And lets be honest....nothing that was proposed in the OP would make a squirt of difference.
1-Guns were bought legally through an FFL - All gun sales shall be conducted with a federally licensed gun dealer. (and you know that...so all you are REALLY doing is trying to ban private sales of guns so that you can create a registry)
2-No automatic weapons were used. -We should prohibit the sale of automatic weapons to civilians which were manufactured after the passing of such law. Weapons made before the date should have a $200 excise tax on them. (Stupid diversionary argument...automatic weapons are not being used in crimes)
3-In Parkland, the guns purchased were by an older individual- The minimum age to buy handguns (and ammunition) should be 21 and the interstate trade of such weapons should be prohibited except by federally licensed manufacturers or dealers. Individuals will not be allowed to purchase handguns outside their state of residence. (This is just a bull**** mimicking of the latest 'solution to save lives, which no one actually believes will do a ****ing thing)
4-Schools are already 'gun free zones. Thats a pretty good indicator of how stupid it is to pass another law when you know the criminal perpetrators arent going to follow the law. -In order to help reduce the number of school shootings, no one shall be allowed to possess firearms within 1,000 feet of a school except for licensed individuals (which includes private security) and on duty law enforcement. (ALL you may accomplish is preventing the good guy with a gun from possibly intervening)
5-Serial numbers were on ALL guns recovered in mass shootings. To better keep track of guns which are made, any guns which are sold through a federally licensed dealer shall bear a serial number. Defacement of such number shall be a felony.
6-Status quo...which again...wont stop ANYTHING. - The following people will be prohibited from buying or possessing guns: fugitives, illegal immigrants, former US citizens, drug addicts, and anyone who was convicted of a crime with a maximum of a year or more, is subject to a restraining order, was convicted of any domestic violence misdemeanor, or was dishonorably discharged from the military.

6 proposals. 6 'common sense gun laws' advocated that lack in common sense and wont do a damn thing.

The following people will be prohibited from buying or possessing guns: ...drug addicts.....

Does that include alcohol, tobacco and caffeine?

Your "solutions" are anything but. Over half of all gun deaths are suicides, and you do nothing to address that. Your ideas only affect a minority of gun owners, which means it will only affect a minority of gun murders. And you do nothing to address the socio-cultural factors that drive gun crimes.

What exactly are going on about?

Reading what you post is like watching "Bill and Ted" while drunk.

Didn't we watch a video of a French guy having to deal with a gang of recent immigrants, and he didn't even unholster his weapon. Unlike in the US, where guys are willing to "break out the shot gun" when they lose an argument to a little girl, or brandish their weapon at girl scouts, selling cookies.

Who is "we"?

You got a mouse in your pocket?

Are you saying that only people in the US do stupid things with firearms?

Careful you don't stain your fingers with all that cherry picking.
