G'night Felicia.
Those military cowards! LOL
G'night Felicia.
Again, though, I doubt if any suicide or domestic violence perp has ever took the time to go out and purchase his preferred weapon and then be deterred cause he had to wait 3 days.
Laws vary state to state, but in Virginia you wait even if you have a valid CC permit, In NC you pre buy from the local sheriff.
Waiting periods solve nothing, but do inconvenience law abiding citizens.
Such is the nature of all gun laws.
What really doesn't make sense to me is that you have to wait even if you already own guns.
I've purchased guns in 3 states, in stores, online using and FFL intermediary and at shows. The states are all different, and I've experienced changes in rules in the same state from one time to the next.
It's weird, but I basically set myself to expect a week delay and deal with it. I usually haven't had to wait a week. Fastest turn around was at a gun show.
Congrats on the Ruger. Get ye to the range!
Heat of the moment decisions are a real thing. Cool down periods are not a bad idea, IMO. I think 3 days is reasonable for most people.
I have heard of 7-10 day wait periods, which I would agree is too long in most cases. However, have you ever made a decision, and then a couple of weeks later got additional information, or had circumstances change, and then wished you hadn't made that decision?
Thank god you survived this ordeal
Thanks, Ive been a few times over the years. Finally just got my own with all the nonsense going on. Now I have to go memorize all the million other laws, and be very careful to apply them. And make sure I dont accidentally drive into a different area which has different laws.
Been there, done that
I lived in MD and VA, and DC is right there. They're all very different. It is a pain. I can understand that what works for rural Wyoming won't work for NYC, but in this day and age we have cities that go across state lines. That's problematic.
Maybe FL has a reciprocity setup with SC? Both states are very friendly for gun owners. I don't have/want a CCW (yet), so no issue.
Enjoy!
Boy you go to bed early. LOL
Just a fun story here. Went and bought my first gun yesterday. It took 40 years, but the gun control nuts finally made me a gun owner and NRA member. Anyway, I now own a nice new Ruger Security 9, but Im not allowed to actually keep and bear it until Ive arbitrarily waited 3 days, which doesnt include the day I bought it, weekends, or holidays. So its now 7 days. Im pretty sure ive cooled down since I ordered it 3 weeks ago, though. I suppose it could have been worse. My state tried to make it 5 days, would would have made it 9.
To be fair, in Florida you dont have to wait if you have a CC, I think.
Regarding the underlined. I can't relate to that mentality.
When I purchase something, I purchase it because I have a need for it and that decision is mine alone, it's not influenced by anyone else. I don't buy something just because someone else may have pissed me off. I can make my own decisions.
You survived. It can be doneOk, 7 days wait is over. I felt sufficiently cooled off, and went and picked up my gun. Very pleased. Now off to the range! And I hope it doesnt just up and shoot someone while Im not at home supervising it.
This is BS. If your life is in that much danger leave the state
