The math used to calculate the chance of a flood in a given location over a period of time is straightforward.

If it's in a 100 year flood plane then the chance of a flood in a year is 1%. The chance of not having a flood is 99%. The chance of not having a flood in the next 70 years is 0.99^70 or 0.49. So the chance of a flood during that time is 51%.

In America, there have been 2 violent revolutions in the 360 years since the colonies were established, a 0.56% chance per year. So, in a period of 70 years the chance of a violent revolution is 32%.

This is actually a very low estimation. In most countries of the world the chance is much higher, and they may well be higher in the US now given the circumstances.

In 2010 Syria hosted a thriving tourist trade that accounted for a big part of their GDP. Most of them didn't see what was coming. You won't unless you have your eyes on the horizon.

What are the signs of an impending violent revolution to look for?

An increasingly polarized population.
Increasingly course and violent rhetoric in the public sphere.
Increasing demonization of the opposing camps: "deplorable", "diseased", "sick", "crazy", "evil", etc.
Coup rhetoric.
Dysfunctional governance.
An increasingly entrenched oligarchy
Violent protests in the streets by people wearing masks and dressed like the Italian Blackshirts.

There are more than 400 countries in the modern world that no longer exist. Do you think that the United States will last forever?

Here's another canary in the coal mine to consider: Getting ready for catastrophe is popular with some right wingers. It's also very popular in Silicon Valley, where magnates spend millions to own underground bunkers. It's also very popular in Hollywood. Something like 50% of Silicon Valley billionaires are into this.

So you have this elite class of people vehemently demanding the confiscation of firearms who are themselves arming up and outfitting fortresses. Time to buy another box of ammo. Clearly.

There's a long list of things one would want to have if he wanted to survive a violent upheaval. A rifle is clearly up at the top of that list.

So if asked why I would want to own an AR-15, I simply respond by saying "Why wouldn't you want to have one?" I mean, if you think you're likely to hurt someone with it or harm yourself then you shouldn't have it. But all any normal person has to do in the meantime is not shoot anyone with it. And it might come in very handy some day.

I love the rhetoric from the idiotic left.

Trump is Hitler!
Trump is a Nazi!
Trump is a fascist!
We want a revolution!
There should be blood in the streets!
We should make the wealthy pay!
Riots and civil disobedience is justified!
ANTIFA is just opposing tyranny (while they violently attack people voting, going to speaking engagements, etc)!
Yes, we WILL take your guns from you!
Why wont you agree to 'common sense' gun control?

I dont fear my government. The military will follow the Constitution. The Guard and Reserve will follow the Constitution. I dont fear the pathetic bitter hate filled skinny jean wearing ANTIFA bitches. But I wont be shocked if at some point the civil unrest they have intentionally fomented spins out of control in some areas. And when that happens, armed citizens will defend themselves.

Something Progressives always argue is addressed in the response section below the article, which I myself have pointed out in Forum discussions no avail:

"But the government has drones and tanks and lasers,” the anti-gunners argue. “Surely you don’t think a bunch of untrained hillbillies with assault rifles can stand up to such technologically advanced weaponry?

Just put the argument to bed at its face. We know exactly what happens when a bunch of untrained hillbillies fight the full force of the US Army on their home turf with nothing more than rifles and IEDs.

We’re running a test case right now, over in Afghanistan. It’s lasted over twice as long as World War 2, and in the end the hillbillies are going to win.

All you actually need, to win an insurgency against an occupying force, is rifles, improvised explosives, will, and time.

But deeper, the point of gun proliferation as a deterrent against tyranny isn’t to actually have to fight the army. It’s just to make it obvious to everyone involved that the fight will be unpleasant, which means you never have to fight in the first place.

When you have a highly armed populace the government has to remain cautious, because overreach may spark the flame of rebellion.

We have such examples as Shay's Rebellion 1786; the Whiskey Rebellion 1794; The Civil War 1861-1865; the New York City Draft Riots 1863; the Battle of Blair Mountain 1921; the Battle of Athens Tennessee 1946; and those are just the most violent.

The rebellion may not succeed, but it happens nonetheless.

This is the prime reason for gun control efforts on the Left. Why else would people make so much noise about gun violence incidents which, while often tragic, are statistically rare when compared to the vast majority of non-violent gun-owners and guns in our society?

AR-15 "military-style" weapons were used in six of the mass shootings over the last 10 years. Yet there are over 5 million AR-15's in private hands in the USA today.

So the push is to remove "military-style weapons" from the hands of common citizens; which is contrary to the whole purpose of the Second Amendment i.e. to allow just such types of military-style weapons possession by common citizens for use against their own government if needs must.

Why would anyone want such a weapon? Just in case it's needed...that's why. :coffeepap:

So you have this elite class of people vehemently demanding the confiscation of firearms who are themselves arming up and outfitting fortresses.

WHOA!!!! You started out with "some" mathematical logic on probability (not sure if it holds water but that's really not your point) and then jump into "So you have this elite class of people vehemently demanding the confiscation of firearms who are themselves arming up and outfitting fortresses." with nothing to support that statement other than YOUR statement that some fat cats in Cali are building bunkers. Nice try. You are really quite the propagandist.

Time to buy another box of ammo. Clearly.

I'll bet for you buying ammo is warranted if the Sun comes up in the morning.

ROFLMAO!

Yes sir Mr. Gun dealer, the suns up today, give me a case of ammo and another one of those AR-15's. The Government's looking a little iffy, I may have to shoot my neighbors son ... he's in the National Guard you know.

amusing coming from someone whose solution is to make people pay 1500 dollars a rifle to keep what they own
