California city reduces violent crime 30% by seizing guns

Perhaps so, perhaps not. Being a gang member does not necessarily mean being a felon. As for people with a history of illicit drug use, are they barred from having guns in the rest of the country? If so, that would be a sizable percentage of the general population.

If you're currently using, yes you can be prosecuted.

even if a gang member doesn't have a felony history there is other ways you can get guns from them. if they're on bail, if they're on probation, if they've indicted for a crime, if they were stopped for a traffic offense and an officer found evidence of drugs, if they were frisked and had a gun but not a license, they can have a firearm seized.

Seems that seizing guns is actually pretty easy.

It worked for NYC when they had Stop and Frisk, until the Progressives and NY Left elected the current mayor and he stopped the program.

If criminals that couldn't pass a background check get weapons taken from them, they tend to not be able to act criminally, which (evidently amazing to some) reduces violent crime. Taking guns from law abiding citizens, however, does not have the same impact, and could very well reverse such trends.

Nyc is currently one of the safest large cities in the world. Gun control works

Harrisburg is a town compared to nyc. Lol

Alright, you talk about how safe NYC is, well it certainly is safer than Newark and Newark is less gun friendly being in NJ and all.

Yes maybe if Newark had more of the strict gun control that nyc has it might be safer

Citation?

CLUE: If it is the Forbes article that combines Violent crime (which NYC aint doing so good) with Workplace fatality, traffic deaths (At walking speed not likely) and Natural Disaster risk....

Shocking. Law enforcement targeting gangs and illegal weapons has a positive effect? No ****? WOW! The course should become clear for the leaders and police departments in Detroit, New Orleans, Chicago, St Louis, etc.

Hopefully someone had pointed out that the tittle of this thread is a lie.

What?

This is a story about cops doing their job. It's something most cops do every shift. I don't know of any cops that wouldn't take a weapon they found in the possession of a criminal. For some reason, however, someone in the ABC30 news room found the concept to be of interest to the public and then someone here found it to be of interest to the rest of us

Perhaps it is noteworthy in Fresno that cops are now doing their job. What were they doing before about gang activity? How were they previously responding to gang members with guns?

This isn't "seizing guns" this is enforcing the laws on the books. This is what we 2A proponents want, leaving the law abiding alone and addressing the criminals.

It is enforcing the laws by seizing guns that were in the wrong hands.

So to be clear, you agree...law enforcement agencies and governments across the country should be targeting gangs to remove illegal guns. Right?

Oh...and notice what they are seizing...and what they arent.
