Shooting Outside my Hotel

Nope, guns are "Sloppy Mechanics"...and I bet any good hot rodder with some decent tools could make a fairly sophisticated gun.
Even a bike mechanic could build single shot, take down carbine with adjustable sights and a rifled bore, those Wright brothers!

You know what?
I'm almost tempted now to actually go and GET my California CCW permit.
I want to wave it in TD's face just to see his reaction.

I might just do it now, because it would make me very happy to prove that a liberal state like California will still allow a properly responsible and stable law abiding person to get one.

I have to decide if I want to devote the time and money to doing it but all this nonsense-talk is pushing me in that direction.
But just remember, we Californians didn't have a problem until Ronald Reagan and a bunch of his frightened fellow CONSERVATIVE WHITE friends got scared at the thought of some pissed off black guys who were sick and tired of getting jacked up every day by crooked cops and Klan types, oftentimes one and the same.
Just remember, your big wonderful National Rifle Association gave Reagan and the Republicans all the help they needed to pass restrictive gun laws out here in The Golden State.
Prior to that, we didn't have these problems with gun rights.

So, if for no other reason than TD's hackery and hypocrisy about conservatives and gun rights, I might just go ahead and secure my CCW just so that I can wave it around.
And the thing is, I'll probably NEVER EVER bother to walk around strapped, either.
I'll just chuckle because I'll know I have my card, that's all.

Liberals just want some SANITY about this issue.
I can't speak for Calamity but I know most liberals just want to make life difficult for crazy people, abusive bullies and criminals, so that the rest of us can enjoy our 2A rights AND sleep at night.

A fifteen year old kid in Bethesda, Maryland could do it, because me and my buddy DID do it.

Depends on the level of quality and reliability, most zip guns are more dangerous to the shooter, than the shootee.

A number 4 nail gun blank, can push a 30 grain .22 projectile thru a pressure treated 2X4 AND a thick novel at point blank range. Down a 2 inch smoothbore, overbore no less

I'm not getting into it with you regarding your extreme position on banning all guns, I can't get on the same page with you about that, but I'm glad to hear that you are okay and I'm sorry to hear about your friends Calamity. Also really saddened at the sly attacks on them in this thread. That's really low.

So, I'm on the phone, talking to my wife. Suddenly, I hear "Pop pop pop pop..." maybe ten of them. Then a few more "pops" after a little gap, 2-3 seconds maybe.

I tell my wife, "I think I just heard gunshots."
She's like, "No way. It must have been fireworks."
I reply, "Nuh-uh. Those were gun shots."

A few minutes later the sirens begin. Conclusion: definitely gun shots. So, I go outside and see bunches of flashing red and blue lights, at least a dozen cops and several emergency vehicles are across the street. So, I fly down the stairs and head over to the scene. I find out that two people were shot. Something to do with a cab. It's all vague.

Here's the latest on the story.

Oh...the gun control part---this makes one more of many gun incidents happening in my vicinity or to my friends. I am sick of it. Ban guns. Take them and melt them down. And, lock up anyone ever caught running around with one.

So...based on your almost nonexistent knowledge of the event (other than hearing gunshots) and that article that had absolutely no information (other than some people got shot), you are ready to melt down all guns. Okay.

Me? I'd wait for more info...like whether or not the person firing the gun was committing a crime or protecting themselves from someone committing a crime.

Seems that would be an important consideration, don't you think? Or don't you think a person should have the right to personal protection?

Guns have been around a LOT longer than the NRA. In fact there are less people owning guns now a days than there were just a few short decades ago.

U.S. Gun Ownership Declines

*mic drop*
Maybe that's because all the guns are now in the hands of criminals. Yeay, NRA winning.

I don't need more info. I'm done with this gun crap. Melt the guns. Ban 'em, and lock up anyone caught carrying one for 50 ****ing years.

Why didn't you start with the one outside your hotel?

Thanks. And, yeah. It's probably an extreme position taken out of the immediate frustration felt at the moment.

I'm not surprised by the attacks. That behavior is par for the course from the gun crowd. It also plays a part in my extreme position. IMO, a lot of people care more about their guns than the carnage.

California has really strict gun laws. Move there.
Arizona doesn't which is probably why there is a gun fight at a busy intersection in a reasonably nice side of town. Yeay, NRA's wet dream come true.

Guns really are not that hard to make, I build bikes. A bike takes more work than a gun.

You doubt there are many stolen guns?

Check it out, not very hard!

The Home Gunsmith
I didn't write that I doubt guns are stolen. I said, stolen guns were once owned by legal gun owners, which supported my original claim: most guns in the hands of criminals were originally in the hands of legal gun owners.

I watched a documentary specifically ABOUT that very thing, and you're 100% R-O-N-G WRONG.

1. I saw Israelis who had to live underground literally, during the late 1940's and they were MANUFACTURING GUNS in a CAVE, and manufacturing the ammo, too.

2. I saw a bunch of FARC rebels who had been living in the jungles for forty years straight. An ELEVEN YEAR OLD BOY MADE a fully functional fully automatic rifle out of SCRAP METAL in a matter of a few hours...in the DAMN jungle!

3. I know two different guys who are machinists who could make a gun for you in a day, just hand them the money.
You want an AK knockoff? No problem. You want a Sig-Sauer style semi-auto pistol? Not a problem.

Guns aren't brain surgery, dude.
I wasn't saying guns cannot be illegally manufactured. I am saying most guns in the hands of criminals are not illegally manufactured.

Someone blew a stop sign a couple blocks away from my house yesterday morning and killed another driver. My husband goes down that road every day at that time but was held up a couple minutes at the house.

Thank the stars but more importantly - ban all cars! If someone walked through a stop sign into someone else, they might just knock them over.

I thought you weren't in favor of banning guns?

 So? Perhaps you just hang out with the wrong people.

...
Look. I'm sick of this snide crap. A mother of a small baby, a mother of two adolescents, a business owner, his innocent neighbor who heard a noise, a building superintendent, a soldier, a hard working dock worker...the only thing wrong is that these were the wrong people to be shot dead by those stupid guns.

I think you should apologize for besmirching these good folks.

Maybe if you had over a dozen people you knew shot and killed, you'd feel different. I'm sick of it. And, yes. It's the ****ing guns.

If you've had over a dozen people you know shot and killed, it's not the guns, it's your choice of friends.

So, Cal...first of all, I'm sorry to hear about your experience, I'm not gonna try to act all tough, that would have been scary. It is sad that Americans like to off each other in the numbers you guys do, regardless of the method.

But while I don't blame you for feeling the way you do in the short time after the incident, you must know what you're suggesting is totally impossible, and even if it weren't, it wouldn't solve the problem of Americans liking to off each other in the numbers you guys do.

And neither will kicking beehives in debate forums... ;)

I know you're right. And, as you said, I'm venting a little. No doubt, I'm getting a little sick of all this gun violence. And, last night certainly seemed like the last freaking straw.
