"Our school resource officer was alerted to the event. He pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, fired a round at the shooter," Cameron said. "The shooter fired a round as well. In the hours and days to come, we'll be able to determine if our school resource officer's round struck the shooter."
Cameron said police were investigating if the shots fired killed Rollins or if he attempted to commit suicide. Police are also investigating if the 14-year-old male student was shot by Rollins or Gaskill while the two exchanged gunfire.
Gunman dead, two injured after shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland | Fox News

Feels bad if the 14 year old was hit, but a shooter was stopped before more carnage. By someone with a gun.

By a COP with a gun.....not some math teacher

Aww, that's cause Math Teachers would get locked up, because people like have this impression a teacher is too stupid to handle a fire arm.

Training is certainly important. Security guards who carry guns but never train to shoot them might not react quickly enough. But, a math teacher can react quickly, too, depending on his mindset and training. We shouldn't force anyone to carry, but we ought to allow those who qualify to do so.

You mean like the one that shot herself in Utah at school? LOL

Sure. Go thru two years of field training like every cop and you can carry one

100% Agree with this.

I hate to burst your bubble but cops don't go through two years of field training -- at least not typically. Some go to academy for 6 mos, some don't, it just depends on the department doing the hiring. My daughter is in law enforcement and she will occasionally bring officers out to our place to shoot (we have a bank range). Surprisingly, the officers are typically not great shots. Their usual gripes are that they don't get enough range time and that they can't afford to buy their own ammo. Some are pretty decent shots, however.

Don't be silly. Would you rather an unimpeded rampage or a fighting chance to live.

There is no use arguing that point with Vegas. You will get no debate it's simply his way or you want to watch Kids die from cross fire. Been there done that. Best to ignore the statement and choose to debate with people open to ideas.

Its at least a year to get the basic POST certification. Any real department will require two years

You are not open to ideas. That much is clear

I would rather not having a round go off in my kids class by accident which happens when you bring guns into the classroom

How many times in the last 10 years has that happened?

Sheesh man, if people were accidentally firing off rounds in public all the time, you'd have a point. Question, do you let your kids ride in vehicles?

How many teachers are have guns around kids all day now? The number is quite small. Why do other developed countries laugh at this idea and say they don't need it....they figured this out already....can't we?

Incorrect. States have various requirements and the average is 6 mos. of academy. But, they can work on the force even before they go to academy. And, that training is comprehensive, they learn the radio codes, resuscitation, physical restraints, etc. Not just shooting.

The length of time required to complete academy training averaged 21 weeks, or 840 hours, as of 2003, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

And, don't give us this crap about "any real department..." because any legitimate police department is a "real" police department. When you get into rural areas, the requirements are often less.

Small population countries without Constitutions that grant the right to bare arms...

So angry. Dude I was a cop. The post certificate is required before you could ever be accepted at any other department. Without it you start training all over. From your own post

The Memphis Police Department puts new officers under Field Training Officer supervision for one year. The Philadelphia Police Department has a 30-week training program followed by 18 months of on-the-job probation.

Yeah....and have kids that don't get shot in math class

They have their problems with shooters too. Hell the worst shooting came in one of your "safe places".

They also have no qualms about locking up or institutionalizing people who are determined to be mentally unsettled. They also have higher rates of home invasions, muggings and rape.

I prefer the math teacher with a pencil in the dining room!
