I would rather have immediate attainable COVER first and foremost.
COVER is something bullets can not penetrate.
Trees, mailboxes, vehicle engine blocks, hydrants, ditches.
After that, I would unass the area at first opportunity.

I would like to have something i can shoot back with but would hold my fire until I had some idea who the shooter is.
Possibly a DEA agent or undercover cop exchanging rounds with a cartel.
It is not my fight till i am threatened or it becomes abundantly clear they are a bad guy.
Even then I have no LEGAL responsibility to help them.
I have a moral responsibility, but it would be a difficult call any way you look at it.

I can probably guess everyone in the area will already have their phones out and recording it all or calling 911.

I will take the pistol . There is enough people who have cell phones. I would tell one of them to call 911 and describe the situation. That includes mentioning that besides the "shooter" there are armed citizens in the area. I would also ask them to describe me and describe the shooter (if known).

A phone so I could call for a cab.

1. I don’t believe in fate. That is like saying it doesn’t matter if you jump off a 100 foot building or not because if it is your time it is your time.
2. Nobody on this planet is as important to me as my two children. I would let every person on the planet die to save them. So if I had to choose between giving my life for a stranger but leave my kids growing up without a father or being there for my kids but somebody else’s kid has to grow up without a parent, I’ll choose the better life for my own kids.

I used to think the most important thing was being able to look myself in the mirror. That was before I had children. I have put my life on the line for others before. Fear for myself doesn’t stop me from helping others. But until my children are adults my life is not my own to risk. If that makes me a coward then so be it.
