I would like to make it clear, I will be buying an AR rifle in the near future. I want one with the biggest magazine I can find. I want one that looks good, has all the accessories I can afford, I can put a scope on.

Why?

Three reasons.

1. I have a shotgun for home defense, and that's a good weapon for that, but I've always felt a second more deplayable rifle would be ideal.

2. We WILL one day move to Idaho, (****ing company sell already...) and we're going to buy some land, I love to shoot.

3. I've always wanted one, they are fun to shoot, look good, and are handy in a variety of situations, from fun shooting targets, to hunting to home defense.

I'd like to ask those of you that own an AR, what's the best gun to meet my needs?

The big mag isn't best for all situations. For example, hunting small pests or other; why carry the weight? Get the biggest, smallest and in between.

I’d truly advocate that you buy the pieces and parts you need and build your own. You will never buy another pre manufactured AR again. It’s not that complicated, you learn YOUR rifle, and you know how to fix it should anything ever go bad. There are kits and videos to talk you through it are by step. Plus...build a few decent lowers and you can build as many interchangeable uppers you like and use the same lower receivers.

Why a .50? Are you afraid you will be attacked by someone driving a tank?

Because I want to. No other reason.

.50 Beowulf is not an anti-tank round, you might be confusing it with .50 BMG like the barrett rifle or Browning Machine Gun,

.50 Beo is closer to the old .45/70 government, it's a short fat cartridge with a heavy bullet and relatively short range, it is not anti-material.

There are different types of .50 calibers and not all of them can pierce 1 inch thick armor.

I'm pretty sure firing any 50 at a tank means one is about to die without harming the tank.

that caliber is ideal for deer. you must think its a 50 BMG.

M2 range is maybe 2 km. Enemy tank will not miss at that range and m2 will not harm the tank. A TOW from nearly 4 km and even top Russian goes poof.

"All the neat accessories"

Just dont put too much **** on your AR, you'll be surprised at what you ACTUALLY need and what will end up just making the weapon more cumbersome.

"biggest mag I can find"

Sounds to me like "the most jammable mag I can find"

A standard 30 round clip will do you fine, and you get extra points for loading it with only 29 bullets, trust me. ;)

Right, when people mention the "anti-material" properties of .50 BMG I always figured that was in relation to lighter vehicles, not ****ing MBTs.

One can never have too much accessories.

I dunno, I think you might be better served with one of these.

It's pretty good against personal gear.

You can have mine. No paper. Perfectly legal.
Rock River Arms full length A2 version with fixed carry handle and scope mount for it. Also has a very nice two-stage trigger.
Tools, ammo, bayonet, 500 rds brass, dies, ect, ect.
Rules may prevent me from posting price but it is only 3 figures for everything.
My PM is open to you.

My newly acquired FAL carbine handles exactly the same but is in .308, so the thrill is gone for any AR.

We'll have to discuss this. I'm looking to make the purchase after my Surgery in June, if you still have it....
