AR-15 used to stop a stabbing...

So how many years is the guy going to get for brandishing a weapon of war?

He had a FOID and a CCW, so even though its Illinois he might be all right....

Yeah, one big reason I don't live in places like Illinois.

We would Love you if you came to visit Illinois, or live here.
You'd like it out here in 'Reagan country'. Lots of CC. Lots of great people and kids. Lots of trump friends.
Lots of great internationally known State Parks, like Starved Rock.

President Reagan was born in Dixon, IL and went on to Eureka College,
where my Sister got her degree for teaching; BD, LD, ED and every other D ...

I'm sure you know how absolutely Gorgeous and Academic 'certain' parts of Chicago are.
All of the great venues, colleges, skyscrapers, etc. in Chicago are first-class and world-class.
I can take an Amtrak from Dwight in and walk or city transport to everything I want to.

But, we all know 'chicago' is one of the favorite gop boogiemen right now.

Tell you what, you need to go to Milwaukee if you haven't. I went solo last September.
This year the Washington Nationals, I follow them, are in Milwaukee late July.
Last year they stayed in the Pfister; I promised my Wife I'd take her ...

Since no one was shot or hit with the gun, maybe the mere presence of the extra witness stopped the attack.

;)

......Thomas told reporters he ordered the suspect to stop the attack and then kept him in place until police arrived. The suspect reportedly got away briefly, but was apprehended by deputies.....

The suspect was so afraid of being shot that he disobeyed and got away ?

With both his FOID & CCW, I can't imagine him NOT being alright.

This guy did exactly what a responsible person should, if possible: He ended the threat without any further injury or damage to anyone involved. In my book he truly deserves the accolade, "A good guy with a gun".

Only once in my life, a very long time ago, did I feel the need to produce a gun. And it was in exactly this type of situation, and with the same result: The threat removed himself, there were no injuries or damage, the offender was quickly apprehended shortly after, and I got to immediately go back to sleep and slept well - having no paperwork or other hassles.

And I'll never forget the accolade the copper in charge laid on me:

"Thanks for helping-out. Now why don't you go back in and put that thing away, before someone gets hurt. Have a good night, sir!"

Simpler solutions for simpler times, it seems.

Never drew mine, but a neighbor stood in MY yard and said he would kill me and my old lady. Next morning I was casting lead ball, the old lady saw me and said "I know what you are doing" I kept my 1858 cap n ball 44 loaded for a month until we moved, then I went down to the river and emptied it (very hard to safely unload a cap n ball without firing).

That was close to a year ago, other than firing some blanks on the 4th of July, it has been unloaded ever since.

Also, don't forget the recent Texas church massacre (11/05/17) where Stephen Willeford STOPPED the mass shooter with his.........

wait for it gun grabbers.........

AR-15.

But wait, they probably never knew about this because, if you take a look at this CNN article, https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/05/us/texas-church-shooting/index.html , you would know the SHOOTER'S name, and that he used a Ruger AR-556 rifle, but you would NOT know the name of the citizen who CHASED DOWN the shooter, NOR the fact that this courageous upstanding citizen used an AR-15 "big black scary military style assault rifle" in a very positive way...

If you would have read this CNN article, https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/05/us/texas-church-shooting-what-we-know/index.html , you would at least know that Steven Willeford was the courageous citizen who stopped the shooter, but you would only know that the shooter used a "Ruger AR "assault-type rifle"", without knowing that Willeford used an AR-15 to stop the shooter.

This New York Times article, https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/05/us/church-shooting-texas.html , lets you know the shooter's name and that he used a "military-style rifle", and later mentions that it was a "Ruger military-style rifle", says that it was the "deadliest mass shooting in the state's history", but it doesn't mention much of anything about Steven Willeford beyond "an armed neighbor exchanged gunfire with him" ... oh wait, but later on in the article, we get back to information about the shooter again... "The authorities said Mr. Kelley used an Ruger AR-15 variant — a knockoff of the standard service rifle carried by the American military for roughly half a century." It goes on to talk about AR-15's and their "variants", but NOWHERE is it mentioned that Steven Willeford (the guy who returned fire back at the shooter) was armed with an AR-15... NOWHERE...

This NBC article, https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/t...alties-reported-texas-church-shooting-n817751 , names the shooter, talks about it being the most deadly mass shooting in state history, states that the shooter was armed with a "Ruger AR assault-type rifle" (notice the very similar language between the mainstream media articles??), but all it says about Steven Willeford was this... "An unidentified resident confronted the gunman after the shooting began, "grabbed his rifle and engaged that suspect," according to Martin." ... This article never mentioned his name, and never mentioned that he used an AR-15 to return fire back at the shooter.

This FOX News article, http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/11/05/mass-shooting-reported-at-texas-sutherland-springs-church.html , isn't much better... It names the shooter, says he used a "Ruger AR rifle", and says that the shooter was "confronted by an armed nearby resident who chased after him".

This Washington Post article, https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-shot-at-texas-church/?utm_term=.4a0e517551e2 , names the gunman and says that he "started shooting with an assault rifle" and said that he was "spraying bullets", but only says than an "armed civilian" took off after the shooter, and leaves out his name (Steven Willeford) and that he used an AR-15.

It was not until I dug deep and SPECIFICALLY SEARCHED for an article that THE FEDERALIST posted, http://thefederalist.com/2017/11/07/hero-stopped-texas-gunman-couldnt-stopped-without-ar-15/ , that I saw (and was linked to) anything of ANY depth about the upstanding citizen Steven Willeford and the fact that he used an AR-15 against the shooter.

So, in conclusion, I dare ANY gun grabbing leftist reading this post to tell me that the mainstream media isn't biased in their reporting and that the mainstream media doesn't have an anti-gun agenda...

Actually studies indicate this remains, by far, the most common way in which lawful citizens use firearms defensively: to produce it as a threat against a criminal, and then the criminal runs away and no shots are fired. Most law-abiding gun owners don't want to shoot anyone if they can help it.

Yeah I've been to Illinois, long time ago. Coming back from a road trip in Canada, came through Chicago.... the taxi drivers scared the @#$% out of me. :)

Obviously, we've got to sometimes make due with what we've got. But if I & my family were under legit threat, I'd probably consider springing for something a bit more effective!

That's what I got, so I make due. Sure dropped that 130 pound hog at around 80ft a couple years back. With only around 75 of a max powder load, it went thru a rib bone, punched a hole in both lungs and lodged just under the hide on the far side. With a full powder load, it would of went clean thru the midsection, a hogs hide is much tougher than a mans!

Well, necessity is said to be the mother of invention!
