'We've Got to Protect the Kids, Period': Ohio Sheriff Offers Free Gun Training to Teachers | Fox News Insider

Following the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, a sheriff in Ohio is offering free gun training to teachers.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones wrote on Twitter on Sunday that he will offer a concealed and a carry class, along with training on school shootings.

On "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday, Jones revealed that he's received an overwhelming response, with hundreds of teachers expressing interest in the training.

He said he's also received calls from around the country from people inquiring about these classes and how they can implement a similar program in their communities.
Jones explained that Congress cannot be relied upon to solve this problem, so it's up to law enforcement and citizens to take action.
Wow, 50 to a class. Liberals and other gun haters are losing the debate big time!

The worm is starting to turn. People are figuring out that you can't stop a bad guy with a gun by screaming at him.

The NRA has its School Shield program, which is an assistance program to help schools and educators looking for actual ways to keep bad guys out of schools.

I doubt in includes throwing Campbell's soup cans at the perps.

Now they also need to have a program that gets top tier war veterans the option to guard a school every day after they retire.

Im sure no shooters are gonna wanna mess with 1 or 2 war veterans. Combine that with teachers that are approved for conceal carry and you got a Safer Space. Gonna have to make sure teacher has no unresolved harassment or bullying claims against them tho, maybe one thats been at the school for at leat 5 years with good record. And a strict rule that the teachers isnt supposed to talk about their gun to students.

A good plan. Teachers ought to be armed and trained by local cops- those that want to be anyway.

Never stated in the link is who is paying (the NRA?) for these "free" CHL classes or what the "user fee" is for a CHL in Ohio. I, for one, would have a CHL in Texas if it would not cost me about $240 (10X what a drivers license or state ID costs) to get it.

Think you can get it for less, and I would remind you that $240 is only $20 a month, or less than $5 a week, the cost of one good beer a week, see not so bad.

What did it cost you? The (state and non-refudable) application fee is $140, the NRA (10 hour) prerequisite training class is about $100 (plus 50 rounds of ammo) and fingerprinting is about $12. The good news is that our Texas LEOs (county sheriffs) are not strictly enforcing the open carry laws - which only make it legal (without a CHL) for you to openly carry your handgun to your home or vehicle - they, oddly, never explain how that handgun legally got carried from your home or vehicle.

So long as it comes with an enforceable high standard of accountability.

I don't want to hear a single story about a gun wielding teacher with tenure getting away with something because...tenure.

Dont worry, only principals and deans will get access to grenade launchers and machineguns so they'll handle any teacher who steps out of line.

Not a teacher using their gun....I mean, more like anti gun folks using a disgression from one of these teachers to attack.

This is about as well thought out as calls for the banning of guns.

FFS, just because America dragged it's ass for years on how to address this growing problem, it doesn't mean that now that the **** is hitting the fan you can come up with a solution at the snap of a finger. You refused to figure it out, now you're paying the price in dead kids. Knee jerk responses from both sides isn't going to stop that, deal with it, own it, and come up with something that makes sense.

Think I'm full of it? Wait and see what happens when an over excited, or terrified, armed teacher takes out a student by mistake, instead of the shooter.

I love you guys, but holy ****.......

Yes, if a program nets revenue (profit?) in most cases then it is important to know that. If one makes $350 million and "gives away" $1 million that is still a large net revenue (profit?). If most schools fully pay for this "service" then the fact that some in low income areas get a price break is simply free advertising.

Who offered the free gun training?

That is my question as well. The headline says the sheriff did but the story never mentions any costs/payments.

The headline doesn't say who's paying and neither does the article. Is this what you want to debate? Seriously?

Why would something of value, like CHLs or the legally required training to get them, simply be given away?

Maybe the Sheriff's department or a donor is willing to train teachers to help protect our students. I'd be fine with armed security in the schools; we have them in our courthouses.

We also pay folks to guard courthouses. I have no objection to doing so - just don't try to BS me into thinking that this school security idea is not going to cost plenty.

Who's trying to BS you? Looks like you're making up **** like everything else you've done in this thread. You don't want teachers taught how to use a gun, just come out and say; but don't come after me about **** that isn't in the article. I'm done.

There IS going to be teachers that go postal and use a gun on their students but they can already do that anyways. I doubt anyone is going to get away with anything tho once parents find out a teacher waved a gun in school no parent would let them go without charges.
